Don’t be daft, just as many on here as there. UTG! But there’s 10x more people on here than there . 😉 Perhaps but that wasn’t the point. I just dislike all this ‘we are better than them’ stuff by both forums. It’s ridiculous I thought we were all gas! (Btw Yatton, this isn’t aimed at you because I think you’re joking about the size!!) And of course for the first time as BRFC manager JB has no court hearings to worry about. Without that distraction, which it must have been, watch us go now! 👍 Hopefully. UTG!

I think Joey has been trying to put his life straight for a while now, he allegedly refused to drink any alcohol last season when we got promoted, so I'm in favour of giving him the benefit of the doubt and hoping he can enjoy the future without anymore controversy 🤞🏻

I can't believe how smug some have been on here today. He has not been found innocent, he has simply got away with it because of technicalities Frosty's report Bristol Rovers manager Joey Barton has been cleared of assaulting his wife after a judge ruled he could not have a fair trial because prosecutors would not call the alleged victim to give evidence. The former Premier League midfielder, 40, was accused of pushing Georgia Barton, 36, to the floor before kicking her during a drunken row at their home in Kew, south-west London on June 2 last year. Mrs Barton, who is said to have been left with a golf-ball sized bruise on her forehead and a bleeding nose, was “audibly upset and shaken”, when she dialled 999 just before 11.15pm, Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court heard. “My husband has just hit me in the house,” she said, telling the operator she had been left with a “bloody nose” after Barton hit her “just in the face”, before officers arrived at the scene within 25 minutes. READ MORE: Man left unconscious after being punched on the floor in Bedminster assault Body-worn footage played in court captured Mrs Barton saying: “I was pushed and kicked about and stuff.” The officer noted “a bit of a lump and some blood”, while speaking to a female officer in a utility room around five minutes later, Mrs Barton said her husband “just flipped out” and “threw me down”. “He was kicking me about,” she said, adding, while holding an ice pack to her head, that the alleged attack came “out of the blue”. “I just want him to be removed from the premises,” she said. Prosecutor Daniel O’Donoghue said footage of Barton’s arrest shows he was “clearly intoxicated”. He is seen in bed dressed in just his boxer shorts while being woken up by police officers before slowly pulling on his shorts, a polo neck T-shirt and socks. Barton, who played for teams including Manchester City, Newcastle, Queen’s Park Rangers and Marseille, as well as making one appearance for England in 2007, denied assault by beating. His wife declined to make a written witness statement but ahead of the expected trial in March wrote to the Crown Prosecution Service. During earlier legal argument, the court heard Mrs Barton had written a letter to prosecutors, claiming she and her husband had been drinking “about four or five bottles of wine each” with two other couples. She said she wasn’t sure what she said to police was totally accurate and explained that her injury was caused accidentally when friends intervened in the argument. Prosecutors said the account was an attempt to “exculpate” her husband and still chose not to interview her or call her to give evidence. Mr O’Donoghue said on Monday: “The prosecution maintain she would not be a credible witness and has put forward an exculpatory account in order to assist Mr Barton and undermine the comments made on the evening, which we say are very clear on the video.” However, District Judge Andrew Sweet said there were options available to the CPS to compel Mrs Barton to give evidence or treat her as a hostile witness. “I am satisfied the position adopted by the Crown not to take a statement or call Mrs Barton is at odds with the case law,” he said. However I agree with those that suggest we move on and put this behind us and hope he doesn't find himself in this situation again I don’t think it’s smug for people to say that the case had little chance of providing a guilty verdict with his wife not prepared to go against him in court . That’s exactly what happened. I guess the issue is the suggestion that Barton's been found not guilty, when in reality it's been found that Mrs B doesn't want to assist the court meaning the case couldn't proceed. Even the judge gave JB a veiled warning.

I can't believe how smug some have been on here today. He has not been found innocent.. no-one is ever found innocent. The courts don't work that way. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty and the case against JB was dismissed so his status remains unchanged. Anyone suggesting that an individual is guilty of a crime when the courts have found to the contrary could be committing slander - need to be careful. Probably better just to lock this thread now

An awful newspaper that I won’t name or link to has reported that he has arrived for court. Bristol Post have shared photos too: Must admit, if I was going to court, I wouldn’t turn up looking like some kind of evil character from the Matrix (unless it was his Hallowe’en costume for later).

think we all know the real truth but he’s found not guilty again so let’s move on ! Didn't realise that you were at their house that evening! The article in the Standard says that the Police bodycam showed Barton was asleep in bed, police pulled the cover back, JB was in his underpants, and asked for his trousers when they woke him up. I thought that this bodycam footage was supposed to be the jewel in the prosecution's crown! From the independent: Mrs Barton, who is said to have been left with a golf-ball sized bruise on her forehead and a bleeding nose, was “audibly upset and shaken”, when she dialled 999 just before 11.15pm, Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court heard. “My husband has just hit me in the house,” she said, telling the operator she had been left with a “bloody nose” after Barton hit her “just in the face”, before officers arrived at the scene within 25 minutes. JB needs to divorce her if she made that up. Sounds like a right bunny boiler. Or a victim of domestic abuse.

A good discission all round, in order to get a conviction you have to have clear cut evidence which in this case was clearly lacking Wether he did or didnt do it, is irrelvant in this case and only the Bartons really know what went on. It hasnt effected their marriage which IMO speaks volumes. My only hope is they both learn from this experience Not quite. The issue here is that the victim would have denied she said any of the things she said while being recorded on a body cam. Which would make her not a credible witness.

You may know how to lock a thread but you are clueless when it comes to the laws of the land : Woodward v Grice [2017] EWHC 1292 (QB) - is a case where a Blackpool footie fan was ordered to pay £18k for making an inaccurate comment on a football forum such as this . In the last 5 years the number of defamation claims being heard in the courts has trebled and that is due to comments being made on all forms of social media including football forums. It is true that you can defend an action but that has legal costs associated with it which would probably bankrupt most of us. Its up to you - slander away and lets see which one of us is right?

The only people that know what happen are the people that were there and the other people from what we know have never spoken about it. we could all speculate, and we will have our own opinions on what happened (as with the Stendel incident), but it serves no purpose to do so If people choose to like, just tolerate or dislike him is any bodies choice. I have my opinions and I doubt I will ever take to the bloke, but no point wasting energy on what may or may not have happened. If Joey has been doing things to better himself, than I hope it is and does work for him

Don’t be daft, just as many on here as there. UTG! A few were stoking the fire and now seem to have piped down; time now to move in behind the manager, and back Joey in trying to achieve the target of 50 points and hopefully safety. Utg Gotta aim for more than 50. 4 go down. But I think we’ll get around 60 + anyway.

I just can't understand how someone could be so drunk, they acuse their partner of domestic abuse. Have you ever got in that state? Have you ever known someone to get in that state? (Apart from GB). It's pretty mentally deranged behaviour, hence the bunny boiler comment.

Glad it's all over as i am sure the Barton family is. If this case involved joe 'public' and not Joe Barton, I do not think it would have got this far or dragged on for so long. Domestic abuse is not something to dismiss lightly, it happens all around us subjecting some folk to an horrific existence and can all too often end in tragedy. Family 'p..s ups, parties' which end in altercations are also a regular occurrence and it often the lot of the authorities to distinguish twixt the two, not easy.IMHO this case falls into the second Category and JB 's 'form' ensured it would be high profile. As far as i can see JB has acquitted himself very well on and off the pitch since joining Rovers despite all kinds of the usual abuse from opposition fans who only have his reputation and media stories to judge him on, as have some on here, once a gun slinger always a gun slinger, some folk won't allow you to hang up the 'guns'! I wish JB and his family well in their private lives and wish JB every success as he continues to re-invent himself and 'rebuild' Rovers on and off the field, it is obvious that all of his 'team' hold him in great respect and are fully on board with his efforts to drag us upwards (well not quite all, but that's management for you!) up the JB, FAMILY AND ROVERS!

IMO Joey has been brilliant for BRFC, built a whole squad we can all be proud of. Now the law has finally had its say and Joey is not guilty, those that are unable to accept the decision will need to decide whether or not they still stay away or get behind Joeys team. My worry is now Joey is free from the courts and the barrack room lawyers on places like forums, he decides to seek pastures new, take his better players with him, and we start going back to the "Buckle and McGee" days. Let's hope his loyalty to Wael remains strong and Joey stays for the foreseeable. Utg

I've not been in that state myself, however, I have known of somebody who accused her partner of domestic abuse in a fit of rage. I also have a relative who banged her face against a door post, and then phoned the police to say that her teenage son had hit her - she was known to enjoy a glass of wine. Also know a lady who had the odd ding dong with her partner, then both would be in separate rooms, phoning the police to make a complaint against the other. DV can be a minefield, only the Bartons (and the other couple) know exactly how these events panned out. I hope that the family can now move on, and put whatever happened behind them, I understand that JB has abstained from alcohol and hopefully Mrs B is also being moderate, as excess doesn't seem to be dealt with very well.
