BP pulling out of Rosneft, that is a biggie and the financial markets open tomorrow with the Ruble tanking. I think this has to be concluded inside the next 3 or 4 days otherwise Putin himself is in trouble. It really wouldn't surprise me to see a coup of some sort. Dangerous times. Their economy is going to implode tomorrow

There are some really heart wrenching stories coming out. The ones that get me are the parents saying goodbye to their children. There is one about a soldier who couldn't detonate a bomb remotely and destroy a bridge, so he did it in situ. Brave man. Plus the soldiers who refused to surrender to a Russian warship. Probably plenty we'll never hear. Putin has a lot to answer for.

Next 3/4 days will be crucial, I think. If no progress is made soon then Vlad will up the violence no doubt, but if Ukraine can hold on past that, there might just be a chance. For me the question is at what cost does he want to win? If Kyiv/Ukraine is destroyed, is it worth anything to him? He’s backed himself into a real corner now , carry on and he’s flucked with the rest of the world retreat and his flucked at home. Is he stupid / mad enough to go for the nuclear option? Yes.

Their economy is going to implode tomorrow Here we go…… Problem is, he and his other billionaire friends won't have their money in rubles. The only people this will effect are the poor civilians (whom he doesn't care about anyway). Or am I missing something?

Or am I missing something? Nearly everyone in the military is paid in Rubles, nearly everyone who works for Putin and his billionaire friends is paid in Rubles. I don't think many will be following his current orders for ideological reasons and so if they're not being paid (or at least not in a currency they can afford to buy things in) I suspect many will just down tools.....

Then stop them porting anywhere. Nothing like a £500 million yacht out of fuel, out of fresh food and water just bobbing about in the Med/Pacific/Atlantic.

Their mega yachts are basically mini countries, they have weapons and all sorts. A port will let them in for the right price.

Fake or real, this is not going to leave a good feeling across the road.
In other news, Monaco and Switzerland to freeze assets, Ukraine offering bribes to Russian soldiers to surrender and formally request EU membership. Finland sending arms now and majority in favour of Nato membership. Shell looking to go too.
Vlad is in trouble but has plenty more to play with.

Nice, you think using that phrase is clever?

Fake or real, this is not going to leave a good feeling across the road. Opposition-controlled council, so not really surprising.

What we've witnessed so far isn't what many would have expected of Russian tactics. They are well known for their artillery attacks which haven't really happened on the sort of scale they are renowned for. Also their air force has played a minimal part to date.
One school of thought is that they are conscious of causing so much destruction that it forces a Nato intervention (possibly an explanation to the nuclear option yesterday), so are holding back hoping they could roll in without too much trouble. That clearly hasn't worked as well as they expected which could now lead to an escalation. Their track record in Grozny and more recently, Syria, isn't good.
Some of the prisoners are claiming to be conscripts who initially thought it was an exercise then that they were fighting to save Ukrainians from Nazis and would be welcomed. They were unsurprisingly shocked by the resistance. Now, that is the precisely the sort of answer many POWs would give anyway, but it is plausible and possibly genuine.
It seems their plan was a quick drive along the Dneiper from the south linking with a quick helicopter flight to Kyiv from the North to take the capital and with it, the government. Forces arriving from the east would complete the capture of all Ukrainian forces east of the river.
For whatever reason, its not worked fast enough. The next stage is going to be bloody, perhaps with Russian forces reverting to type.
