Thing is Stu, let’s say Putin wins and takes Ukraine. What do the west do? I guess keeping sanctions but that will hit Russia really hard at one point where he’s surely going to say, drop them or face war?

It could possibly carry on similar to the French Resistance and become a proxy war. Most likely things will settle down and the international concensus gradually unravels. One thing which has surprised me was quite how bad the Russian forces have been and the mauling they have taken so far. They'd be in no fit state to threaten (conventional warfare that is and probably cyber too, nuclear remains a different thing entirely) for years.

My sense is we are in a very dangerous period, the entire Russian nation is subject to an information blackout and there children are to be "taught"that this is a war of liberation with NATO as the aggressor, the Eastern flank of Europe will be held hostage for many years . Putin is not someone we can negotiate with in good faith and the Russians will not be able to subjugate a nation of 44m. We in the so called West need to toughen sanctions as we did against SA and prepare for the long haul . If we don't Putin who appears to suffer from delusional paranoia will be emboldened and the next stop will be the Baltic States,we cannot allow the capture of Ukraine to become the status quo

What would you do, out of interest? I work 40hrs a week & a little bit of family stuff... But inbetween maybe I would go for diplomatic solutions without trying to be the winner. Maybe something good for both sides of the dispute? What would you do differently? you seem like bit of a military nut so I can almost predict your answer Not that he can't defend himself but I'm not sure what you mean by a military nut so you can predict Stuart's answer!. I believe that Stuart like me has a keen interest in military history that doesn't mean we favour it in any circumstances,Stuart's posts over the years have been a balance of fact and insight which on here is most welcome

Unfortunately, unless a few of his close friends oust him from power, he'll take Ukraine within a few weeks. Then unless the sanctions stay in place for years, it's business as usual.

Outstandingly brazen propaganda Clicked on the link and got a spam alert. 😳 Twitter censorship. An executive at Twitter heads its editorial campaigns across Europe, the Middle East and Africa serves in the British Army’s psychological warfare unit, the 77th Brigade.
