Big defeat at the UN, just 4 other countries voted with Russia (Belarus, Syria, North Korea and Eritrea). Even the UAE who abstained on the Security Council now voted against the invasion.
Some suggestion that Russia may introduce martial law on Friday, Georgia looking to submit an EU application and that most of the invasion forces have run out of fuel.
Meanwhile, more casualties;

To be fair, while we were sending equipment they let Putin's yacht slip anchor and sail back to Russia, then took days to send a few helmets. Not connected to gas supplies, I'm sure... We've been really quick in so many ways, one notable exception being the money trail. Can't think why. 😶 |

War is horrible and all this deeply saddens me. I give my children a tighter hug every time, thankful that I live here. Before the invasion I'd have suggested a potential plebiscite on the contested areas near Russia and Crimea, with a working assumption that they would leave Ukraine either as a separate country under Russian stewardship or even becoming Russian. The remaining part of Ukraine would be free to look west as associate members of Nato and the EU (closer ties but not full membership). That way Putin gets security guarantees and the western part of Ukraine gets 90% of what it wants. My concern is that Putin isn't up for compromise, either then or now. The most likely scenario IMO is either Russia steamrollers Ukraine into submission, there is a divided country possibly along the lines of Germany or Berlin post WWII or Putin is toppled from power. What did you think I would say? |
