Usual caveats apply but a sign of this clearly not going to plan.

Lots of talk about the Ukrainians smashing through Russian lines and potentially encircling them . I’m not a war buff in anyway but this sounds like the tide could be turning to me .

I hope this forces Putin's hand although I fear it may well be a real battle of attrition and drags out. From what I've read the Russian forces are really poorly equipped and winter may just become a tipping point.

Putin has to lose and be seen to lose otherwise it'll start off again in a few years and sadly that means a lot more fighting.😑

Interesting map on this link showing how things have developed recently. It will be a test of both sides if this develops further. If Ukraine continues like this then Russia's next move could be telling. If they are withdrawing in bad order the panic and confusion may lead to a much bigger collapse. Defeat can be infectious in a demoralised army. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-62867560

Updated visual representation, I see things between Armenia and Azerbaijan are starting to flare up again. Possibly another one to watch.

Further escalations today with Russia annoucing 300k reservist being called into action.
Lambs to the slaughter, with the proffessional army struggling against the push back and lacking of basic equipment this really wont end well.
Biggest concern has to be what's Putins next move will be when this fails.

Biggest concern has to be what's Putins next move will be when this fails. Will the rich and middle classes act by deposing him or leaving en masse for safer countries? The mobilisation has only really affected the poorer areas but it'll start hurting the richer and more influential parts soon. They're already offering Presidential Pardons to criminals who sign up to fight for the Wagner Group and tales coming out from liberated areas, even if embellished, will only harden Ukraine’s resolve. Whether the crass plebiscites will mean anything, if they 'become' Russian it gives Putin (domestically, not internationally) more excuses to go to full mobilisation. Time for the unaligned countries to take sides.

So reminiscent of the First World War,what will the West do if he uses his " special" weapons,to do nothing would give him freedom to act with impunity to respond risks escalation,it is a terrible position to be in

He’s full of sh** . He won’t use nukes as he’ll know it’s his own death warrant and probably wouldn’t be allowed to anyway . All they do got is bluff & bluster .
If I’m wrong and we’re all nuked ….

I don't think he'll use them, at least not yet. It's not the intercontinental missiles he'd use anyway, they'll be the smaller one. The plebiscites would give him legal authority to use conscripts and reserves which he can't at the moment, he can only use contracted soldiers, volunteers and the Private Military Companies. Hence the captured soldier who was actually a redeployed sailor. The thing we need to be concerned about is that Putin has established a kleptocracy which means he can't just retire, he's a dead man walking once he leaves office which in turn means he'll double down on the war. He's stuck between assassination or losing. He has to be seen to win or he's dead, one way or another. He's got nothing to lose if not.
