I mean, what did he think was going to happen? Even I would have bet my house on this happening.
What’s quite ballsy is that it was actually shot down, not a “mechanical failure”. Now a channel close to whatshischops is claiming this was done by a traitor of Russia.
I don’t really expect much fallout from this, but I hope there is and it’ll be interesting to see

If anyone is interested, "Ukrainian forces have advanced in an area around five kilometres southeast of Robotyne, a US thinktank has reported. It comes as Ukraine said they had captured the strategic town last week. Troops are removing mines from the area. Robotyne is near Tokmak - an important rail and road hub for the Russians." There are reports of cargo aircraft being destroyed in Russia itself, these are thought to be bringing in Iranian drones so would be a major coup if true. In the meantime, Orban is still playing Vlad's best mate - "In a sprawling interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, Mr Orban praised Mr Trump's foreign policy while blasting the Joe Biden's administration and its approach to the war. He said that Trump's return to office would be "the only way out" of the conflict, and that any suggestion that Kyiv could win the war against Russia was "a lie". "The Russians are far stronger, far more numerous than the Ukrainians," Mr Orban said. "Call back Trump… Trump is the man who can save the Western world." news.sky.com/story/ukraine-latest-wagner-boss-yevgeny-prigozhin-passenger-on-crashed-plane-in-russia-live-updates-12541713

Ukraine have gone through the front line in the south. Not on TV as I get the news before they do. I cannot always be bothered to post.

Reports they have moved further now, still early days really and supposedly at a great cost. In related news, the first Challenger 2 has been destroyed. It's to be expected, nothing is invulnerable and they have been praised by crews to date.

From what I've seen all the crew survived and it might even have been disabled and then scuttled to stop it falling into Russian hands. Slightly surprised this is the first combat loss of a Challenger 2 anywhere, given they've been in service in different combat zones for over 20 years.

I believe it's only been in operation in 2 war zones during its time in service, one of which was Iraq. We did lose one there to so called friendly fire, courtesy of our trigger happy allies from across the pond!!

Pretty much just Iraq, but there has only been two previous losses. One was an attack by another Challenger 2, known as a blue on blue or "friendly fire" by the press. The other was a immobilised by RPGs but still functional and was towed away. This one may well be a mine strike that ignited the fuel tanks, then later attacked by Russian artillery. One thing to note, the turret is still attached, showing the design of western tanks compared with Soviet and Russian ones which invariably had their turrets blown off. This is due to the ammunition stowage, Soviet/Russian ones store ammunition below the turret, western ones in a bustle. It means western crews have a chance of survival whereas the Russian crews don't.

Well, he'd better order more and get mid air refuelling updated. "RAF planes will be used to deter Russian attacks on grain ships, Rishi Sunak will announce today. The prime minister will condemn Russia's decision to withdraw from a deal brokered last summer to allow shipments to leave Ukrainian ports without fear of attack. At the G20 summit in Delhi, he will call on global leaders to make it clear that Vladimir Putin's decision to attack civilian ships which some of the world's poorest people depend on, should increase Russia's isolation. But his sudden withdrawal from the Black Sea grain deal, which allowed 33 million tonnes of food to reach 45 countries, has put people at risk of starvation in countries such as Yemen and Somalia. Since July, Russia has damaged or destroyed at least 26 port facilities, destroying enough grain to feed more than a million people for a year. The prime minister will announce an international food security summit to be hosted by the UK in November, backed by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; and a UK contribution of £3m to the World Food Programme. UK intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance will monitor Russian activity in the Black Sea, and RAF aircraft are conducting flights over the area to deter Russia from attacking civilian vessels transporting grain. Downing Street say this will help "attribute attacks to prevent false flag claims that seek to deflect blame from Russia." It’s because mainly they’ve been abroad fighting extremely poor people in their backyard for the rights of oil companies and commodity producers. As is the case with the loss of this current one, but they’re up against a different proposition. Just to translate this for those lacking in critical thinking skills “Theyve only been involved fighting for the freedom of people in less advanced economies and now they’re fighting for the freedom of Russians who despite their civil war, actually want to be Europeans, just subconsciously”

Looks like Kadyrov may be in bad health with not much longer to live. If the rumours are true, it'll leave quite a power vacuum in Chechnya.
After losing ships in the recent incidents, the Wagner 'coup' and the news of the failed attack on an RAF surveillance aircraft, Putin won't want to lose a close ally.

Ukraine hitting sites across Crimea recently, possibly linked to a number of bulk carriers heading towards Odessa. Could be they are trying to get grain out and need to distract the Black Sea Fleet.

Good news if this pans out. We need to keep up European unity on this. "Liberals have a slender lead in Slovakia's elections over a pro-Moscow party led by populist former PM Robert Fico, exit polls suggest. The pro-Moscow party, Smer-SD, had been expected to win the vote, but polls suggest its popularity has fallen in recent days." www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-66972984

That man is a criminal and a thug. As a few of you know I lived there 5 years and honestly cannot believe he’s back. My friend did text me this morning though that Smer (an offshoot) who have a lot of support are not quite so radical and are more supportive of Ukraine, so hopefully some sense prevails
