Yep we're doing our bit but the significant funds from the US and EU need to be unfrozen, not a time to play politics when Ukrainians are dying,it's pretty disgusting.

Frank Gardner was fairly despondent this morning, talking about lack of funds from EU and US plus the prospect of Trump or another Republican president pulling the plug if they win. Add to that North Korea suppling a million artillery shells out producing the West. Big Nato exercise this year as a show of strength. Ukrainians down a Russian A50 aircraft, Russian sources not wanting to give Ukraine any PR saying it wasn't Ukraine but an error by their air defence and they shot it down themselves. đ¶

It is a complete dereliction of responsibility By Western politicians,my ex army intelligence officer gave me a chilling outline on how any war with Russia would develop and not if but when we would use battlefield tactical nuclear weapons,we have the potential to sleep walk into a disaster, don't worry about rejoining the EU it won't exist!!

If you look at those countries that give the most to Ukraine, ourselves and the US aside, most are those like the Baltics and Poland who still remember what it was like under Moscow control. Certainly using agitators in the Baltics would cause unrest and trying to force a corridor to Kaliningrad would be the obvious next step. Transnistria is another. We have to remain committed otherwise any disunity or weakness will be exploited. The forces in the West have largely been hollowed out over the past 30 years, we just don't have enough. Our maritime patrol aircraft fleet has shrunk to a handful and we currently have no airborne early warning aircraft. Imagine if social media existed in the 1930s, dread to think what the equivalent of "Nazis in Kiev", "US biolabs", "Nato expansionism" or "EU expansion" would have done to our moral compass.

Turkey ratifies Swedish membership of Nato, just Hungary to go.
In the meantime:
"The leader of Moldova's pro-Russian separatist Transnistria region has called on its defence and intelligence institutions to be "increasingly proactive" in its military preparedness.
The region broke away before the 1991 Soviet collapse and for more than three decades the sliver of land has remained on Moldova's eastern fringe with little turmoil, with around 2,000 Russian "peacekeepers" remaining on the line separating them.
But tension has been building since Moldova's government introduced a duty in the New Year on imports and exports, part of its drive to join the EU."

Yeh, but naval base, nazis, biolabs...... "During the 14 months for which Veronika Vlasenko attended school in Russia, she was regularly told by teachers and fellow students that she would never be able to go home to Ukraine. âEvery day they said to me that I would be staying here for ever and would never leave Russia,â she said. âThey told me that Ukraine doesnât exist, that it never existed, that weâre all Russians ⊠At times the other kids would beat me for being pro-Ukrainian.â Veronika was one of nearly 20,000 children documented by Ukrainian authorities as having been taken from Ukraine to Russia over the past two years. The authorities believe the real number is probably 10 times that, while Russian officials have even boasted of moving 700,000 Ukrainian children to Russia." www.theguardian.com/world/2024/feb/04/they-told-me-were-all-russians-re-education-of-ukrainian-children

The banner headline on BBC News is:
"Kremlin: Putin has been told about Navalny's death"
I'm guessing that was last week sometime.

Still, plenty who think Putin is a strong leader and perfectly entitled to attack others, including some on here.

He's causing issues already with the blocking of Ukraine funding and encouraging Putin with the Nato comments. The man is dangerous.

He certainly is,the history of democracies is littered with missed opportunities to stand up to bullies and we have Paid a much bigger price later. I cannot understand how the US a supposed beacon of freedom can vote for a person like him ,it just strikes me that all the republicans are interested is power and they care not a jot about how they get it. If he is elected his erratic behaviour will make the world a very dangerous place,Europe needs move forward on the basis that the US will not support NATO if Article 5 is invoked, you can be sure Putin will test our resolve very quickly .

I agree with this but would add that Trump is a bit different to others. Not only does he not care what he does or says to get into power, I don't think he cares this time round what he does and says when he is in power. It's his last stab and he won't care about a re-election. We should all be worried. Especially with the strong possibility of Biden running again. I have nothing against Joe B but he's clearly past his prime and in a bit of a fast decline. Lack of confidence in Biden's ability to do the job could persuade many to vote for Trump. If the Democrats put up a more convincing candidate we might all sleep a bit easier.

Then claiming he does it on purpose đ
