wow 24 pages of opinions! Well heres mine... We didnt play as bad as whats been made out. a few months ago people were making some silly comments that we were going to get relegated, which shows there isnt much between anyone in this league. Concerns about the defence, particularly Harries who I have never liked, Anderton is also suspect as he blows hot and cold too much. Connelly is ok and so is Hoole (had an off game) but we really missed Taylor. another surprise for me was E. Anderson who has been pumped as the messiah this week but who I thought was very average. I thought Coutts was our best midfielder last night. Evans was missed but we have an absolute embarrassment of midfielders at the club so i'm not expecting a radical issue. On a positive note, three games in a week and we have 71% possession tonight, it shows the style has definitely improved even if the results aren't quite there yet. Sure it puts pressure on the next few games but a win vs Mansfield on the weekend (they too have to lose sometime) and it will all feel much better. Good balanced post Richie, could be argued that JB made to many changes last night but imho it is a lot to do with 'attitude' and how players approach a game. Sounds like they may have ,like many on here, been under the impression that this was a walk in the park and an easy 3 pts, as for the Newcastle lad, bit early to judge him i think.

My biggest take from last night was how desperate we are for a striker. I like Collins, but he isnt a striker. I think he is much better a bit deeper running at people. If Loft, or Clarke were playing last night i thinknit would be a different game.
Harries really isnt up to it. His only contributions were simple 10 yard passes backwards or sideways. Or lumping the ball forward, of which i cant think of one that actually came to anything. I really dont trust his defensive ability either.
JB has to take the a bit of critisism for last night aswell. It shows how short he has left us at CB when we are completely reliant on a 19 year old loanee. I also dont like the way makes our side out to be the best in the league. During the pre match presser, it seemed like he thought the game was done and dusted, and that we would hammer them, and quite early on it looked like that had rubbed off on the players.

Really poor showing from us tonight - nearly everyone was off their game and Coutts with Harries had real shockers….
It couldn’t have helped losing arguably our strongest and most important CB in the warm up and then Evans early on… Taylor’s absence was the biggest impact as we kept losing the Arial battles - especially first half - and Oldham were just so much more up for it….
we didn’t deserve anything from the game and I thought JBs post match presser was spot on….we should have had 2 penalties but likewise they had a perfectly good goal wrongly disallowed.
Only players to come out with any credit from the game for me were Jaakola, Collins, Nicholson and Thomas as at least they tried to make things happen and Connolly did improve as the game wore on - 2nd half he was much better….
As others have said.. onto the next one where hopefully we will see a marked improvement, otherwise we’ll likely see another defeat and possibly a heavy one….

Coutts is certainly not a simple player, I actually felt sorry for him, caught between taking the ball off the back four - who couldn't keep a long ball on the pitch, and the front 5, who didnt step up and take control. He simply offered himself as an option and kept ball moving. Its a bit like the role (I hate doing this) that Sergio Busquets does at Barca.
Too many players got complacent last night and for those that came in, I dont think they took the opportunity. Agree that JB needs to take some of the blame as there were too many changes, in his defence I will say that the team didnt look disjointed but just complacent/poor.
How Harries has survived this long is beyond me, please tell me his contract is up in the summer?

Last two games:
2 teams with massive players everywhere. Main tactic was to lump it over the top and the fast powerful forwards chase it. Do this 100 times and you get 2 goals.
Us, tippy tappy patient play, and watch our strikers NEVER get the ball as they get crowded out by a selection of Neanderthals who muscle then off the ball.
I think Joey might learn a hard lesson about league 2 this year.
It’s incredibly frustrating watching us try to play on the deck and then a huge hoof upfield and their massive fast strikers just shoulder charge our defence out the way.
We have no plan B against these teams.
Last 2 games we got bullied out of it by grizzled league 2 no hopers who pulled us down to their level and beat us (or got a point) with experience.
Please please please can we get loft or Clarke back.

sick to death of JB this JB that, Harries is a liability but I say it once not over and over again Didn’t have to go back far. I have absolutely no confidence in Harries what so ever bad mistakes and a red card in the waiting when Harries is playing I get really worried, 2 or 3 bad passes a game and qt least one which leads to the other team scoring and he is also clumsy and very nearly gets sent off, I feel so much more confident when he is not playing If Harries was playing we would have lost 4 3 Why Harries, only weak link imo agreed and I think you can put Harries in there aswell, did his normal 3 mistakes per game 😂😂 Ah ha ha ha ha ha!!!!

Last night was a reality check for all those including myself who were thinking we were playoff contenders. In truth the run we had put together impressive though it was, was against poor sides and at no time looked convincing. We are better than we were, but nowhere near where where we need to be to compete at the top end of the table. We looked to fragile at the back and our midfield was simply bypassed. We played some pretty football in the middle of the park, but virtually no end product and no pressure. Somebody never done their homework on Oldham because they are way better than their current position and up for it. They had a big crowd for them and we gave them the perfect start after that there was only one winner. Based on last nights gutless performance I reckon top mid table is our most likely finishing position.

Didn’t have to go back far. 😂😂 I have to say, you must have a very boring life to go through my previous posts searching, I actually find that quite sad, so you like Harries then fair enough, how about a deal, you don't post the utter sh**e you keep posting and I won't mention Harries again either? Not at all mate, just knew you were talking rubbish and as I said I really didn’t have to go back far at all. That’s not how it works. You can’t demand people stop going on about JB because they have a different opinion to you and it’s repetitive, when you make sure your opinions are repeatedly known and repetitive!! You can post about CH all you want, just don’t take the moral high ground when telling people to shut up about JB because you’ve heard it before. It’s a forum and people can voice their opinions and it’s strange behaviour to lie and say people should stop posting their opinions because you’ve heard it before like you don’t post your opinions on the same subject multiple times.

Although I did expect us to beat Oldham, I thought our run would come unstuck against the likes of Mansfield,Exeter,Newport,Sutton etc. We need to go on an extremely mad run of wins I think to be in with a shout of playoffs now - and you have to say it looks unlikely.

Coutts was possibly the worst player on the pitch last night. I think the insistence on getting E. Anderson and Finlay on the pitch last night messed up the formation of the team. What was it 5 changes last night? Fair enough to rest Grant, he needs to be managed, and unlucky to lose Taylor just before ko but were all the changes needed. Coutts to me looks a very simple get it and give it player , not someone we should look to pass the ball to to make things happen creatively. This was our worst mistake last night as we constantly gave him the ball at every opportunity. Coutts had a shocker when in possession last night. Constantly given the ball away. There was a spell in the 2nd half where he backheeled it in our own half for no apparent reason and gave away possession giving Oldham an attack. He then found himself with the ball a few seconds later and lost possession - he then fouled his opponent and gave away a free kick and got a yellow card. Awful couple of minutes from him. Sloppy all round - but he and Harries really stood out. I'm afraid to say that Hoole had a shocker too.

Are people only now beginning to realize Rovers will be a barely mid-table side this season? We have yet to have a really good run and have not played that well in any game except for maybe Oxford. This is a big reality check for our fans. I am tired of constantly being told Rovers are one of the best sides in Division2. How about the thirteen teams above us? I'm afraid for a city of our size Rovers are rather mediocre and going nowhere. Not even a new stadium on the horizon to cheer us up! Oh of course we will either be six-foot under or using zimmer-frames when a stadium is ready!!

Our whole defence had a stinker of a game, not really fair to single just Harries out. True, although I think he gets more stick as he always has a bad game. You could predict it as soon as his name was on the team sheet. I said it before but Barton got rid of other players he believed 'couldnt take us to where we want to be'. Well unless we want to be bottom half of L2 why is Harries still playing? I've always said the weak point of our team is defence and we bring in an inexperienced replacement for Hughes. No full backs in either, while we are still wasting Spences time by not playing him - Surely we could have sent him back and got someone else in defence?

The defence has not been great all season, we keep signing injury prone defenders Clarke and Brown this season, and needed to strengthen this area in January.
I expected a better showing last night so much of the passing was wayward, and Harries and coutts had shockers.
I thought we could give it a good go to the play offs, after watching that not so sure, need a complete defence overhaul in the summer.

Agreed and I don’t rate him at all from what I’ve seen before either, I do think however that if the way we played last night was the tactical plan then he was left up sh** creek without a paddle because it became clear very early on that we would look to pass him the ball at every opportunity and Oldham were on to him straight away. Coutts could do a job as a holding midfield ball winner at this level but we definitely shouldn’t be looking to get it to him as a playmaker particularly when we’ve got other players on the pitch who are so much better playmakers. sh** tactics combined with not enough determination to win the 50/50s led to our downfall last night.
