wow 24 pages of opinions! Well heres mine... We didnt play as bad as whats been made out. a few months ago people were making some silly comments that we were going to get relegated, which shows there isnt much between anyone in this league. Concerns about the defence, particularly Harries who I have never liked, Anderton is also suspect as he blows hot and cold too much. Connelly is ok and so is Hoole (had an off game) but we really missed Taylor. another surprise for me was E. Anderson who has been pumped as the messiah this week but who I thought was very average. I thought Coutts was our best midfielder last night. Evans was missed but we have an absolute embarrassment of midfielders at the club so i'm not expecting a radical issue. On a positive note, three games in a week and we have 71% possession tonight, it shows the style has definitely improved even if the results aren't quite there yet. Sure it puts pressure on the next few games but a win vs Mansfield on the weekend (they too have to lose sometime) and it will all feel much better. Fair enough, balanced opinion. I thought we did play badly insofar as we allowed a team, 23rd in the league, look fairly decent. Sheridan probably knew that we’d dominate possession but set up his team to ensure that we couldn’t do too much with that % of possession. Oldham hassled, closed down Coutts esp when he was given the ball and played those through balls to their front 3 when they did have the ball. In that way Oldham turned 29% possession into having more chances than we did. Oldham are fighting for their league place and they did it really well. I didn’t think it would be easy and it wasn’t. Ive always liked Harries but he was poor last night, perhaps he needed the game to get back into it. Connelly i though had a decent game but was beaten in the air a couple of times which Anssi saved. But we did miss Taylor and without a No. 9 we couldn’t really change the system which we needed to do. We did get behind them on several occasions through Collins and Anderson H, but didn’t have anyone in the middle. E. Anderson was ok, you could see he was trying what to do but without an out ahead of him he then went sideways and backwards. My worry is that teams have worked out how to play us, pack defences, press to stop us playing and attack our vulnerable defence. We need a win on Saturday but it will be harder. UTG!

Harries mistake for the first goal, he was caught half asleep. If Taylor had played I don't think we would have conceded either of those goals. We looked a bit leggy last night, thought the new lad showed promise but he did give the ball away cheaply on numerous occasions. Saunders, Collins and finley drifted in and out of the game too much, needed to get more involved. Oldham physically stronger than us all over the pitch. The advantage of having a big strong forward is in games like this, it gives us another option when things aren't going your way, desperately missed that last night. I'd happily have any of Oldhams or Sutton front men in our side. Couldn't knock the effort of the players, it just wasn't our night.

I bet Nick Anderton is grateful that Harries is getting all the stick this morning. Anderton played a part in both goals too. A poor clearance for the first then beat too easily, then beaten to the ball for the 2nd. He is a poor player. Tbh our whole backline is not good enough except for Connor Taylor (massive loss last night).

Poor performance and a reality check for those dreaming of promotion.
Does it end our hopes of a top 7 finish? No, but it does cast serious doubt on our ability to close a 10 point gap.
I prefer Belshaw between the sticks but Jaakkola was probably the only one who performed to a decent level. He kept us in the game with a few good stops.
Defensively we were a shambles. Oldham scored 2, had one ruled out which was just offside, and another that looked well over the line. We couldn't have had any complaints if the match had finished 4 or 5-1.
Midfield created very little all evening. Far too much backward and sideways passing. Very little of our 72% possession was in the attacking third.
The front players were feeding off scraps, struggled to maintain possession when balls were played forward, and never really looked like scoring.
Oldham looked like scoring every time they got near our penalty area, whereas we never looked like adding to Nicholson's goal.
We're going to have to play an awful lot better to pick up the 4 or 6 points we need from our next 2 games.

Agree totally, Taylor is MotM every week and losing him was just a massive loss,we looked nervous and all over the place every time they attacked. Bad window where nothing was resolved.

They looked dangerous every time they went forward and I forget how many times we left one of their big guys unmarked in the box. Thats criminal..

Safe to say we got done by a team playing for survival under a new Manager and we weren't really at the races? It happens.
Onwards to Saturday and let's get back on track.

24 Hrs ago the optimism was tangible.Reality hits home and the prospect of promotion suddenly looks distant now. Down here little Honiton have announced that funding is now in place and plans approved for a new stand and the installation of floodlights.Strange how the ambitions of a team in the ' South West Peninsula 'league can make you feel chuffed for them but just wish we would announce something to show we too are hoping to move forward. Strangely nervous about the Mansfield game now.

Are people only now beginning to realize Rovers will be a barely mid-table side this season? We have yet to have a really good run and have not played that well in any game except for maybe Oxford. This is a big reality check for our fans. I am tired of constantly being told Rovers are one of the best sides in Division2. How about the thirteen teams above us? I'm afraid for a city of our size Rovers are rather mediocre and going nowhere. Not even a new stadium on the horizon to cheer us up! Oh of course we will either be six-foot under or using zimmer-frames when a stadium is ready!! I bet yous fun at parties!

JB has some big decisions after that performance. Does he drop Coutts or Finley for the new lad (Nolan?) or too soon. Can we rush back Clarke or Loft because we have no attacking plan B without them? How to make a defence that can work out of what we have! Not easy, but largely of his making I guess. Connolly is decent cover for Alfie, but no one else is cover for Taylor.

Not at all mate, just knew you were talking rubbish and as I said I really didn’t have to go back far at all. That’s not how it works. You can’t demand people stop going on about JB because they have a different opinion to you and it’s repetitive, when you make sure your opinions are repeatedly known and repetitive!! You can post about CH all you want, just don’t take the moral high ground when telling people to shut up about JB because you’ve heard it before. It’s a forum and people can voice their opinions and it’s strange behaviour to lie and say people should stop posting their opinions because you’ve heard it before like you don’t post your opinions on the same subject multiple times. I did not demand anything, I just asked a question, if I went through all the same posts you post over and over again I'll be here all day, I do have a life so I won't be doing that. You didn’t ask a question, you made a statement (lie) that I moan about Barton all the time and you only ever said once about Harries. Considering you’ve been caught out making things up and consistently moan about Harries -I’d argue that you look in the mirror before accusing other posters of not having a life.

Players know they let Joey, themselves, and BRFC down last night. For me, other than Harries, who would not have got a game in my Sunday side, the rest should brush themselves down and show in training why they should be picked for Saturday. Bless the Finn, although for me if fit Belly comes back in between the sticks, and Glenn Whelan gets the arm band and plays in front of the back four. I would also start with Leon or Loft at number 9. Taylor comes back in, Nico starts, the rest are all fighting in training for a shirt.

I said 'give it a rest' and I get fed up with hearing the same things over and over again about our manager almost daily, look I have more important things to do with my time than replying to nonsense all day long like work. Ok I'm a liar and I make things up if that makes you feel better, right time to go back to school

They were constantly playing to far forward and unable to get back and do their defensive duties. Between the two of them and Coutts and Finley they hung Connolly and Harries out to dry. If Kilgour was fit to play last night in place of one of them it would have been exactly the same scenario.
