I thought it was a massive gamble and predicted us to go down before the season started. All my mates and family all thought the opposite to me. Many reasons that team failed, not enough goals, not the right mix of experience, no character, no winners, no recognised striker, no leadership... Up against whily seasoned pro's, what could go wrong!? I thought this before the season started. I'm amazed this was allowed to happen. I wasn't against the concept of youth but you need experience around them. exactly. Led by a person who believed he was the greater God of football. And who continues to blame the referee every time for his sides losing. I see he’s still doing it after listening to him moaning after the PV play-off defeat. UTG!

Gaschat fact. I think we actually invested a fair wedge but many of the players we signed were players nobody else wanted. Think Daly, Harries, Liddle etc. The prem clubs lapped up us taking players off their books that they no longer wanted. Yes, we did sign some dross players but surely, you must remember how excited everyone was, with all the transfer activity and were tipping us for promotion , no ? Which in itself contradicts your view that BG had a restricted budget, as if that was obvious at the time them we'd all be worrying about a relegation battle not a promotion push. BG may have agreed to cut the budget but it doesn't mean that he still had a competitive one for L1.

Surprised PV have only sold 15K, I'd have thought they'd easily sell 20K, it just goes to show what a "massive" club Rovers are as they'd probably sell at least twice as many as PV/Mansfield have so far.

Hmm, yes probably. PVs average attendances are 5k for the last 15 years. Stoke on Trent has a Pop of 250k with Stoke City taking most of the attention obviously-similar to our situation. Stoke also sits bang in the middle of Manchester/Liverpool and Birmingham so there is genuine pressure on Port Vale to attract youth. We don't have that issue on a geographical front but we certainly have a huge number of people with 2nd teams here. I also wonder if we would take as many fans as we have in the past? Our fan base is ageing compared to city.

Interesting comment again on our ‘ageing’ fan base.
What is this based on?
Genuinely have no idea but would be interested in the facts behind this as it is often stated.

Our fan base is ageing compared to city. You sure about that? In both cases, when the teams are successful they will attract more younger followers - as evidenced by the uptake in families and children attending at The Mem in the latter part of the season. As far as I'm aware there has ever been a survey showing the percentage of support across various age groups at both Bristol clubs and I've always felt this statement is unverifiable and is generally used by anti board posters. Not saying that's you, but let's at least have genuine proof! Obviously, numbers-wise, City have more younger followers, but percentage wise - I doubt it.

Was rooting for Vale tbh but after a couple of weeks after our Promotion I'm not bothered if it's Vale or Mansfield either way. May both supporters have a great day regardless who comes up with us or stays down. UTG

Leaving 10:30 tomorrow morning. Backing DC’s boys, but will be watching on from the Mansfield end. As above, would love to see Darrell’s third football league promotion but not particularly fussed who wins the big prize.

There’s plenty available so I’ve read .

It only shows what a massive club we could be Bristol, as one of the largest cities in the UK, I'm convinced if we had like every other large city seems to have, a perennial Premiership team (I'm speaking only for the Rovers here) we'd pack any size stadium. How many coaches leave Bristol every week full with fans with season tickets to go and watch Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool, Man City et al? I'm sure we've all got friends that do. They may be called glory hunters, but so am I, and I'm 100% Gas and only Gas, I just have to be a little more patient. UTG!

There’s plenty available so I’ve read . Because dudeeeeee, when I was on the ticketmaster stadium map via Vales link there were only very minimal amounts of the priciest tickets left, at the time. So straight down the other end behind the goal in my usual block for England matches with the Stags. Sorted. As I say, not arsed who I’m around or who wins, would just prefer DC to take the glory if I had to choose.
