In 58 years of watching football. I have never seen a group of players cheat so blatantly. Not even the Italian teams of 60' s and 70's were that bad. The referee just let them get away with anything they wanted to do The free kick in the first half was typical of his ineptness. He marked the 10 yards, allowed them to waste time, during which, the foam disappeared. He then proceeded to mark the line again and let 2 of their cheating idiots stand a yard in front of it and promptly blocked Evans attempt on goal.

They went down so often and theatrically even the 4th was laughing at each tumble, half way through the 2nd half.

Weird question to ask someone you know wasn’t there? Suppose you’ll tell me it was like watching Connor Taylor all over again😄 FWIW Alf was probably our best defender today. Didn’t do any worse with his distribution than anyone else, but I thought our midfield were poor in providing passing options. When Shrewsbury pressed, we ended up giving the ball back to Belshaw and the long ball came mostly from him. I’ve got no problem with Kilgore playing from the start, but we need the midfield to show for him and the others a bit more.

Just caught the 2min highlights.
Lovely slotted finished from Loft, but their equaliser is horrendously disappointing. Not even pin ball, three touches and it’s in the back of the net. No one in the quarters knew what was going on, let alone slow to react. Very frustrating.

Evans doesn't seem to be able to get going in league one. Not sure if it's the step up but he's not dictating the attack moves like last season. Hopefully that will change and/or LMc will help

Distribution out of defence was a shadow of what we saw last season. Gibson and Kilgour did ok defensively but passing was awful. Hoping for a flurry of signings over the next few days, squad is too weak currently. Not there today but totally unsurprised by the comments regarding the long punts and terrible passing from the back. Have been saying it for years, Alfie cannot play football on the deck. It’s just beyond him. Connelly will be an enormous miss. To be fair his passing was mostly fine. Often the other defenders had to rely on a pass to him to get out of trouble. Kilgour and Gibson were the better of the back 4 today. Over all we still struggled with a lack of attacking midfielders today. Harry had another below his best game . The team is far from balanced. Collins needs to be upfront not in midfield.

Just got back and haven’t read the thread but FWIW: We were very average and lacked any creativity. But had the defence not lost concentration we could and should have won and if we had the 3 points we would have just been behind the top 6. And what I write would be very different. I would have been talking about character and pinching a win from a mediocre performance, but it wasn’t and we were lucky overall to get a point. Last season we had the occasional match after Christmas like this was but we had some star quality in Elliot A to create some magic and create a goal. We are still missing that replacement for Elliot (of course Luke Mc may be that player, I’m not sure.) I liked Gibson btw and thought he did ok and will get better in time but didn’t think Alfie K took his opportunity which is a shame but he could have cost us a goal or two. Thank goodness for Belshaw because he made a save which stopped today being FGR mark 2.
I started to get angry when I saw how Shrewsbury started to act, roll over and generally waste time but driving home I thought overall that Cotterel and his team were basically stupid. Had they played normally, tried to win, not time wasted then they could have won today because we weren’t really playing well and they had the best chances tbh and could have won. I think we’ll get better, I’m not sure Shrewsbury can and given the way they play I’d say it was unlikely. Unfortunately cheating, conning the ref or whatever you want to call it is all over and tbf were we to be 1-0 up then we’re as good as any at time wasting. My anger is aimed more at the referees who allow this to go on. How many times today did players get in front of the ball at a free kick to stop a quick re-start? How any times did a Shrewsbury player go down and the referee stopped play when it wasn’t a head injury when they are meant to stop play. Today’s ref was conned and was poor. Last weeks ref was worse because his decisions were wrong and effected the result. Today’s ref was just poor. But if we have any hope of challenging in the top half we need to be able to beat these teams who come for a point and use s***house style tactics. Our fault we didn’t win not theirs although their antics do p*** me off.
Morecambe is becoming a very important match. I’m sure Derek Adams will come and play with a wonderful spirit...not!
UTG!

What has happened to the state of the pitch? It looked like they've had some issues with one of the sprinklers to me.

UTG! got back not too long ago. Was going to make some comments but most are covered above. Only thing I’d add is that the linesman (the one on the East side in the second half) was useless. I thought he looked a bit old before kick off but didn’t want to judge as some people are grey before their time. However, whether it was age or not, he clearly couldn’t keep up with play and missed some obvious offsides. Only positive I have for the ref is that he didn’t fall for the antics of the Shrews players when they tried to get a player sent off on two occasions - pretty embarrassing. Finally, hope the guy who collapsed is ok (was just next to us, behind the goal in the Thatchers about half way up). Looked like a brief dizzy spell but went away with the paramedics in the end.

Genuinely going to give up watching football if the dark arts continue to be this bad. Another gem from the Shrewsbury forum: “Shouldnt be surprised at Rovers being dirty, look what a thug they have as a manager. It's only to be expected”. Thick c*nt wasn’t even at the game. Sick of idiots constantly calling us dirty just because Barton is our manager, especially with the state of their own team. ABSOLUTELY ! 💙

Barton was complaining in the post match interview about Shrewsbury camping in their own half, but that's not the game I saw. I'm really frustrated with the way they approached the game and all their antics, but they did have 20 shots to our 9 and looked the more threatening team for most of it.
Lots to work on this week, I'm expecting a good performance against Morecambe to put this behind us.
