Some of the biggest looming strike actions have been called off after the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Unions representing Royal Mail postal workers and rail staff said that "out of respect for her service to the country and her family" they had chosen to cancel immediate strike action. www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-62827929That’s absolutely class

An amazing, incredible, woman. There will be no monarch like her to follow. Devoted her life to this country. I am not a Monarchist- but , agree totally with what you say, she hasn’t put a foot wrong during her reign. Amazing woman 👏

Not a royalist but she was a great servant . RIP your Maj 😔 Well said. She was a lovely lady who devoted everything to her role. At the end of the day, a very pleasant old lady has passed. RIP your majesty. What a very odd feeling Well put. It will feel odd as she was a constant presence for not just my whole life but also the whole of my parents lives - an amazing stint serving her country. Won’t be the same but we’ll soon get used to having a King I guess.

Just watched Justin Trudeau's speech, he almost lost it at one point.
Biden and Macron tributes touched the right note too.

Personally I’m a bit gutted. I don’t really care either way about the royal family in general, it’s nice to have some tradition I guess. But the Queen I’ve always loved and respected. She is the UK really isn’t she? If there’s anyone to personify the UK it’s her. Somehow it feels like I’m losing a grandmother tbh. Can’t imagine the change of anthem either, it’ll always be Liz for me. RIP Don't see much point in any of them now she's gone. Good time to draw it to a close. Yes, indeed

Yes, indeed How does this conversation start and who starts it though I fully get the respect shown for the queen across social media and I certainly dont advocate any of the hate and nastiness, but there is a line between respect and the mad fawning and deference as well to somebody who has had zero impact on most people lives

Anyone see what Dale Vince posted on Twitter? I’m no royalist but I’d like to think my sense of what’s respectful and what’s not is a little better.

Happy to debate, perhaps not on this thread, though.

Carried out her duties with dignity, right to the end. The only Monarch in my lifetime, and I don't think we'll see another one like her. RIP Would be nice if this thread could be kept for messages of respect, however people may wish to express themselves. I can't for the life of me see why anyone would prefer Putin, Trump, Xi Janping, Mugabe et al. We've got a system and it works fine thank you.

I'm still feeling rather sad about her. It feels like I've lost an elderly relative who I saw infrequently but was quite fond of.
What she did to maintain the status and prestige of the Royal Family in the modern age was quite an achievement.
I don't think the ones to follow have the same commitment or appetite for it all, notably King Charles.
I think we'll see a very slow downgrading of the status of the royals over a long period, perhaps 20 years, in a very British way. Nothing too radical or sudden.
Maybe starting with ending or reducing weekly meetings with the PM, and automatic visits from heads of state.
Then maybe no more openings of Parliament, and ultimately perhaps ending the theoretical answerability of parliament to the Crown. It will all take a long time, I think, but their days are numbered in the current form.

Charles has already let it known he wants to reduce the 'working Royals' down to him and William and to vacate Buckingham Palace. It'll be interesting to see how things pan out. I expect Australia to have another referendum at some appropriate moment and probably some of the Caribbean states. Have doubts over Canada and New Zealand but probably they will at least consider it. Don't think there is much appetite in this country yet.

Why has my post been removed?
Whilst like many i'm no royalist but I dont see the need for constant p**s taking for someone who's dedicated her whole life for our country.
I've not been reading much on here lately but on the breif bits i have seen I have clocked two of your comments on this section and general chat and your just coming accross as a prat to be honest.
It's a case of if you dont have anything nice to say then dont say it at all.
RIP Ma'am
