Sad days for her family, kids, grandkids and great grandkids. But really, for the rest of us?
The fawning coverage on the Today Programme on R4 was a bit laughable. The sort of programming you might expect in countries like China or North Korea. Her reign as a Queen covered my entire life, 70 years now, I can honestly say she and her family have been entirely irrelevant in my life. Most of the comments on the BBC have been over exaggerated made up nonsense.

Les,it's a complex picture while she may have been irrelevant to you for others she has been an inspiration and I see nothing wrong with that,I think in a fast changing world people can relate easily to someone who has been a stable, consistent presence and whilst the institution is not everyone's cup of tea there is tremendous respect for her and the way she played out her role to the very last.

Why has my post been removed?
Whilst like many i'm no royalist but I dont see the need for constant p**s taking for someone who's dedicated her whole life for our country.
I've not been reading much on here lately but on the breif bits i have seen I have clocked two of your comments on this section and general chat and your just coming accross as a prat to be honest.
It's a case of if you dont have anything nice to say then dont say it at all.
RIP Ma'am
Good show of restraint when there are plenty more colourful language options you could have used!

Working class folk embracing the monarchy is weird as f**k and everyone ought to get a grip. It is sad for her family, that’s it. This should spell the end of such a ridiculous archaic system. This country will continue to decline so long as so many think that a 96 year old passing away is more important than the energy/cost of living crisis.

Not the right time for all this, completely disrespectful. Unfortunately I fear that there will be many people out to cause trouble and bring the monarchy down. That will be an anarchists dream. I hope I'm wrong.

Truly inspirational the way she lived off of public money with not a single worry about making ends meet her whole life! Gosh the rest of us could never work as hard as her.

Oh go on then I will indulge you, what's your plan for replacement and how would it function in our Constitution that has evolved over 400 years By the way you are conflating two issues in your last sentence, they are not related at all.

Let’s keep this thread to respectful posts about the Queen.
It’s fair that some may have criticisms of the royal family, or wish to see them removed entirely, but I would suggest that it is not the time for those sorts of discussions and that they can wait until the storm has settled.
Certainly this thread isn’t the right place for that debate.
Any further posts on this matter will at best be moved to GC, if not deleted entirely.

Just because you feel differently I’m not sure why it gives you the right to question why we should feel sad here? If it’s a genuine question then my apologies, but the “but really” part that made me assume it’s not

The power of a lifetime of brainwashing and propaganda is amazing. Sad, but amazing.

He divided opinion too to be fair.

A shame that those who do not wish to express any respect for the Queen could not be bothered to start a separate thread to debate their views.

I don't know why they feel now is the right time to express their views. I'm not a royalist or anti-royalist. I've seen people who don't approve of a monarchy at least be respectful of yesterday. I guess sometimes we shouldn't judge people by our own high standards. Some will always lack class.

The power of a lifetime of brainwashing and propaganda is amazing. Sad, but amazing. There are several different versions of the alternative out there, which would you choose and why?
