It depends on what you’re considering left, right and neutral. I would concede that the supposedly left wing outlets don’t champion things like 20th century left wing positions like nationalising industries, expansion in state benefits etc (guardian probably the only one who does the latter) There’s kind of 2 things going on here. Traditional left wing politics (which I believe you’re judging it on) and modern liberalism. The media is overwhelmingly liberal. It’s overwhelmingly pro EU. Anyone who claims the BBC or the media were for brexit, we have to end discussion as our viewpoints are so alien we can’t agree on the fundamentals. In modern parlance “left” can be summed up as: Pro globalism and open borders Supportive of pride and questioning the nuclear family Critical of western history and narrative Supportive of criminalisation of hate speech Supportive of environmentalism Pro regulation of business Right, as follows; Critical of open borders Supportive of traditional family values Pro freedom of speech Pro independence I agree that if you’re an old school leftie there is literally nothing for you other than parts of the guardian. Similarly, if you’re a new money type Tory who is actually not fussed about migration but you want free trade and less government, there’s very little for you either. You’re stuck with the Mail. Or the old money telegraph. A lot of people don’t fit boxes but I think a better way of saying it is the media are pro liberal but not traditionally left wing. To say they’re all for conservative value and old school basic conservatism is pretty wide of the mark but they are not critical enough of big business. "not fussed about migration but you want free trade and less government, there’s very little for you either. You’re stuck with the Mail." Really? The Mail and Express are very much not "not fussed about migration". What planet is this guy on ? 😂

You might be right of centre but not continually obsessed with migration and there isn’t much for you. FT is about all I can read. Guardian and Indy a bit pseudy, telegraph old money, sun/mirror too broad. Not that I’ve bought a newspaper in years but I do have an FT subscription. Just imagine a world where all you had was an editor and hacks to inform you of the truth without social media. I shudder to think of the lack of checks and balance under thấy system yet it’s what we all grew up with. Who knows what the truth was in those dark days.

Pipe bombs in Northern Ireland, just as Biden tours, fingers crossed they can get Stormont up and running again soon. Oh, and the IMF prediction is for us to be the worst in the G7. "It follows the collapse of two US banks last month, closely followed by a rushed takeover of Swiss banking giant Credit Suisse by its rival UBS, which sparked fears of another financial crisis. The IMF had already forecast that the UK would experience a downturn this year and be bottom of the pile of the G7 - a group of the world's seven largest so-called "advanced" economies, which dominate global trade and the international financial system. The UK topped the group in 2022 during the pandemic rebound. It now expects the UK economy to shrink by 0.3% in 2023 and then grow by 1% next year. Although the UK is forecast to have the worst economic performance this year, the IMF's latest prediction is slightly better than its previous expectation of a 0.6% contraction, made in January." www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-65240749.amp

Well done tonight to Ben Wallace and the forces for the evacuation of diplomatic staff from Sudan, and to James Cleverly for not being on holiday, unlike Raab. 🫡
Having said that, more needs to be done to get British nationals out as evacuating embassy staff ahead of citizens is not a good look.
Also, well done to Diane Abbott for putting another nail in the coffin of the Corbyn wing of Labour. 🙄

I heard the US have 16,000 registered as entering Sudan, but no idea of how many have since left. We have no idea at all.

COBRA meeting today, maybe they'll resolve the issues and formulate a plan.

Does that seem bizarre to you , understand the Drs but who are the rest? Can only guess at businessmen looking to make a quick return so have little sympathy there, but to be honest nothing surprises me these days. I see Deborah Haynes on Sky is getting excitable again, this time over a reconnaissance mission in Port Sudan. I can't stand her myself, but she has some contacts, so can break stories ahead of others. Whether this is something genuine, cover for something else or just PR, we'll have to wait and see.

Aye she needs to be a bit more pragmatic, the government are in a no win situation with this,go in to quickly without appropriate recon and it has the potential to be a disaster, people think you can just fly willynilly into a warzone and lift thousands of people, total nonsense.

"Andrew Bridgen has been permanently expelled from the Conservative Party.
The MP for North West Leicestershire had the Tory whip removed in January after comparing COVID vaccines to the Holocaust in a highly controversial tweet.
A Tory spokesman said he was expelled on 12 April after the recommendation of a disciplinary panel.
"He has 28 days from this date to appeal."
Despite originally encouraging his constituents to get vaccinated against COVID, Mr Bridgen has become an outspoken critic of the programme, saying in a controversial tweet that it is "the biggest crime against humanity since the Holocaust".
He had the Tory whip removed on 11 January over the tweet, which was described by former health secretary Matt Hancock as "antisemitic" - something Mr Bridgen strongly refutes.
He has been rebuked a number of times for his views on the COVID vaccine, particularly by Penny Mordaunt, the leader of the House, who has accused him of promoting "false propaganda" originating from the Kremlin and "abusing and undermining colleagues"."

And another one standing down, name is familiar. 😇
"Chris Pincher, the MP whose conduct kickstarted the end of Boris Johnson's premiership, is standing down at the next election.
Mr Pincher, who has been the MP for Tamworth since 2010, resigned from his job as deputy chief whip in July last year following allegations about his conduct.
Mr Pincher was accused of groping two men in a private members club and apologised for "drinking far too much" and embarrassing "himself and other people"."

When Theresa May and IDS criticise your Bill on immigration for being draconian, you know it's not a good look.
It's almost as if this is being used as a lightning rod to deflect from other issues or expose the Home Secretary to ridicule.

Good! I wonder if Sir Kier will have the balls and do the same to Diane Abbott .
