"Andrew Bridgen has been permanently expelled from the Conservative Party. The MP for North West Leicestershire had the Tory whip removed in January after comparing COVID vaccines to the Holocaust in a highly controversial tweet. A Tory spokesman said he was expelled on 12 April after the recommendation of a disciplinary panel. "He has 28 days from this date to appeal." Despite originally encouraging his constituents to get vaccinated against COVID, Mr Bridgen has become an outspoken critic of the programme, saying in a controversial tweet that it is "the biggest crime against humanity since the Holocaust". He had the Tory whip removed on 11 January over the tweet, which was described by former health secretary Matt Hancock as "antisemitic" - something Mr Bridgen strongly refutes. He has been rebuked a number of times for his views on the COVID vaccine, particularly by Penny Mordaunt, the leader of the House, who has accused him of promoting "false propaganda" originating from the Kremlin and "abusing and undermining colleagues"." Good! I wonder if Sir Kier will have the balls and do the same to Diane Abbott . Well as he took away the whip straight away from her & Corbyn I expect he probably will . Ps when do you think Sunak will chuck out Braverman for her racism?

I have to admit I wasn't aware the new voter ID rules had been implemented. Slap on wrist for me, but it hasn't been much publicised. Although maybe come the next elections in my area it will be.
Conspiracy theorists and right wing libertarians will mutter darkly about Big Government and voter control, but I've thought before it's odd that no ID is required. I mean, you have to take your red card and ID to a Royal Mail office to pick up your latest unnecessary purchase from eBay, but to vote you didn't need anything.

As there’s been hardly any voter fraud over the yrs and old people can use a bus pass as ID but young voters can’t , it’s just to designed to stop those likely to not vote Tory from voting imo.

No but young voters can use a passport, Drivers Licence or Pass ID card as suitable ID.

BBC Chairman goes. Are we seeing the Boris acolytes slowly being removed?
Braverman next please, then ignore the ERG wing and start governing properly.

May be wishful thinking on my part, I do wonder if Braverman was appointed as a sop to that element and giving her enough rope and all that, to finally silence them. Could be she is a 'casualty' of the local elections. 👍

What a weird world we live in when successful 2nd or 3rd generation South Asian heritage British citizens decide to become Tories and limit immigration.

As there’s been hardly any voter fraud over the yrs and old people can use a bus pass as ID but young voters can’t , it’s just to designed to stop those likely to not vote Tory from voting imo. How do you know how much voter fraud there is when no ID was previously required? People could (and I have done in the past) literally pointed to my name on their list of eligible voters - I voted under my name but did everyone? Also I assume bus passes require the same level of ID to obtain as 60+ Oyster cards do, so the reason they are valid ID to vote is because to get one you have already proven your identity to the required level. Student travel passes don't normally require the same levels of ID to obtain....

"The impact of voter ID must be "rigorously" reviewed, the Local Government Association has said today.
Yesterday's elections were the first time that voters needed photographic proof of who they are, with some confusion over which forms were permitted.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has already said the ID requirement "posed a greater challenge for some groups in society, and that some people were regrettably unable to vote" after polls closed.
Now Kevin Bentley, chairman of the Local Government Association's People and Places Board, has said it is "vitally important" the government works with councils and the EC to "rigorously and transparently evaluate the implementation of voter ID" in order to "ensure lessons are learned ahead of future elections".
He added that "it is too early to properly analyse" the impact of the new requirements, and that the EC will be conducting the review over the "coming weeks"."

I just want a strong, free Britain, for British people." "I just vote for whoever keeps the socialists out. I don't want to live in a country where benefit claimants earn £1000 a week." "God help those idiots who've voted in the free spending Labour lot and those tree hugging Liberals. This country is going downhill fast." "If this happens in a General Election we'll be back to a future of being told what to do by Brussels while we pay for everything and the foreigners cheat us." Think that sums up their thoughts.
