We agree on the point but Re JCS I don't care if he's 18/19, he came here to do a job and was not good enough in L1 at that time IMO. What job was that? Play football for BRFC which he did, fairly well imo. You may be right about that age is irrelevant but I guess if he was 23/24 then he wouldn’t have been coming here. Anyway, a long time ago and he’s played Championship football since. Whatever let’s hope JQ has a successful time here. UTG! Suggesting he ever played fairly well is pushing things a bit too far, didn't't he have an absolute shocker v Millwall in our last game of the season?

I think he was fairly steady for majority of his time, but there were a couple of times he got bullied and that Millwall game often gets mentioned and stands out because Steve Morison (I think it was him from memory?) gave him a torrid time and taught him a lesson.

Thanks pirate, saved me doing that. I saw him play several times and he did ok. Not spectacular but ok. I also saw him give away the first goal against Fleetwood with a shocking pass, fortunately we recovered to win 2-1. Perhaps it’s just me that I expect a young player to be inconsistent and have the occasional bad game and that that doesn’t make him ****. (I know Topper isn’t saying that, that was someone else). From now on perhaps I should expect all young teenagers to be potential PL players who won’t make mistakes. And of course an obvious point to make is that being a loanee in League 2 is far easier than being a loanee in League 1. The difference in the leagues is vast but I’m sure any mistakes made by our current loanees will mean that they are not as good as last years group. I loved Connolly, Taylor and Anderson and they did so well but I know that playing in League 1 is far, far harder. So good luck to JQ. It’s my own fault!! 🤔 I shouldn’t have bitten when GGMI posted. Hey ho. UTG! UTG!

Hey ho. UTG! UTG! Any young player is going to be a bit more inconsistent and mistakes should be expected, they are learning the game after all. I think there is a perception that JCS was sh*t is because the last memory of him was being given the run around by Morison and that sticks in the mind and slightly clouds the judgement of him overall. The point about difference in leagues is very pertinent too, you only have to look at a player like Connolly this season. He has maybe struggled a bit at times and made a few individual errors, but he's a good young player playing at this level for the first time, it's going to happen. Hopefully the mistakes can be kept to a minimum and they learn and adapt to the level asap. If they can't, they will be moved on and/or replaced.

New Rovers Defender JARELL AMORIN QUANSAH Born 29.1.2003 Warrington Height & Weight 6’ 3”; 12 st 9 lbs Centre Back Career: Woolston Rovers; 2008 Liverpool (professional, 4.2.21).20.1.23 Bristol Rovers (loan Calm, focused and strong, Jarell Quansah will hopefully offer precisely what Joey Barton’s Rovers side has been lacking in defence in the spring of 2023. The teenage right-sided central defender and occasional right-back joined on loan from Liverpool, where he had come through the ranks and, even if he had not made the first-team, had been an unused substitute as the champions drew 2-2 with Spurs in the Premier League in December 2021. “A man mountain”, according to the Reds’ Under-18 coach, Marc Bridge-Wilkinson, Quansah had helped Liverpool win the 2019 Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup, had captained the Under-18 side to the May 2021 FA Youth Cup Final, which was lost 2-1 to Aston Villa, and had captained the UEFA Youth League side in 2021-22, playing for the reserves as they competed in the Premier League 2 as well as winning the Lancashire Senior Cup. Eligible to represent England, Scotland, Ghana or Barbados, he scored once in two appearances for England’s Under-16 side, played three times at Under-17 level and once at Under-18 before scoring twice in eight games in 2021-22 for the England Under-19 side. One of these goals came eight minutes from time in the semi-final of the 2022 Under-19 Euros in Slovakia, heading home following a corner to defeat Italy 2-1; in the final, he set up England’s equaliser, as the Lions ran out 3-1 victors over Israel after extra time. Quansah was chosen for the Team of the Tournament. Samuel Quansah senior, his grandfather, had played for Ghana in Olympic Qualifiers before moving to England in 1958 to study and playing in the early 1960s for Stalybridge Celtic; Samuel Quansah junior, who played for Abbey Hey, married a Scottish girl and they had two sons, Jarell’s elder brother being Keenan Quansah, a right-back at Southport. Compiled by Stephen Byrne Stay Healthy and fit you will be a popular player if you stop goals being conceded ! No one's going to read that. lol, I saw how long it was and skipped past

Good signing ON PAPER but you would have said the same about Jake Clarke-Salter and he was sh**. One thing I have learned from signing players in the past is not to get too carried away either way and to judge on how they do with us. Just thinking of recent examples. Belshaw a a number 1 for example. Who would have thought he would be our number 1 after signing from Harrogate as number 2 and doing so well. Oztumer looked a great signing but was a huge disappointment. Yes, agree with a lot of that, there are never any guarantees with any transfer even if they are experienced. I can think of loads of disappointing ones like Oztumer. But I thought Jake CS was ok. Of course he made mistakes he was only 18/19 wasn’t he? Young player so perhaps inconsistencies were to be expected. JQ has a great pedigree, so let’s hope he gets some slack if he makes mistakes but you don’t get to what he’s achieved so far without being a good player. Welcome Jarell, good luck. UTG! Spot on. There are parallels with JCS. They had both done really well for England youth teams prior to joining us. You look at Clarke-Salter now and he’s played nearly 100 Championship games since leaving us so fair play to him, he’s carved out a good career at a good level. Quansah is at the same stage of development as when JCS came here and it will take time to adjust to mens football. He is nearly a year older though and seems to have more physical presence, which might work in his favour, but even Elliot Anderson took a couple of games to adjust for us before he hit top form and that was a division lower. Really hope Quansah does well and enjoys his time here and equally I hope Gibson is back as soon as possible as that will help ease the pressure on Quansah to come in and make an immediate impact.

I know it’s never a guarantee but I was talking to a mate who is a big Liverpool fan and watches their youth teams as well and when I said we’d signed Quansah he said that we’d got a top prospect….. out of their defence he reckons he’s the most accomplished and this season especially has been a real standout. He also said that he’s rapid too as well as being able to play and do the basics…. He thought he’d get a loan to the championship so he reckons he’ll be a big success for us….
It’s only one man’s word watching him play against other youth teams and also the England youth games but it bodes well… 👍

Once Gibson is fit I fully expect a back 3 of him, Quansah and Beefy
In my opinion this will only work if we sign some proper wing backs, so for me that should be the priority in this window
Competition for the keepers jersey is a good thing, keep Belly on his toes.
Rossiter can’t come back quickly enough, he’s been our biggest loss this season
JB certainly places his faith in promising loan players and so far his judgement has been pretty spot on
One more dynamic creative player to push Evans would make us quite the force up top
Personally I don’t think we will make top 6 this season, just hoping we don’t have to continually chop and change as loans go back to their parent club. For the future development of the defence it would be ideal to sign a commanding centre back and keep the back 4/5 settled.

Gibson's a left footer, JQ a right footer, JB clearly intends playing a back 3 of, JQ, JC, JG, it'll be interesting to see if he adds another more experienced CB as backup. Not sure we've ever had a ball playing CB, who is also rapid, in recent years.

I think JCS was a weird signing...
The lad was played alot when avaliable by a manager that typically (at the time) didn't rate loan signings. If anything he was used incorrectly. I think when starting off you just need/ want to stay injury free- JCS didn't have that luxury. Yet was still used. I suspect DC saw what many champ managers have.
Jarrell - different player- if he can handle the physicality- he'll be baller and we might get the 5 3 2 system working again. Thomas distribution was too poor for that

If the plan is a back 3 till the end of the season . There is no way we can go into that with 3 centrebacks plus a few who can step in but ultimately weaken the defence.
A minimum of 1 centreback is required probably 2. If reverting to a back 4 then we may scrape by as we are but 1 more would be better.

Being reported he is in the pre-Euro 2024 training squad. And having seen them both play at AFCB this season I’d prefer Quansah. Maguire looked awful and had no idea where or what Dom Solanki was going to do and he’ll face better players in the Euros. No pace, no awareness but Southgate will still keep faith. Quansah had an outstanding game in the Caraboa Cup in October when the conditions were atrocious and looked a class act. Admittedly Solanki wasn’t playing and if he doesn’t play AFCB don’t look as good. UTG!

Always liked Quansah at Rovers - could tell he oozed class on the ball - but played under a manager who couldn't get the defence right, and ultimately a really poor defensive unit, where any 19 year old was going to struggle.
Well done Jarell!

We've had the same copy and paste crap on Pickford as well.

Pickford is probably the best English keeper currently, he does get plenty of practice behind Everton’s defence in all fairness though.
