Ok , so it’s a a stand replacing the south stand and that other stand by the west terrace if I’m right ? That’s 1800 seats at a guess ? filling in the corner with a wrap around stand adds a couple of hundred and extended it to along where the big screen is is another 500 ? Add another 6-8 rows of seats all around adds 1200 ish ? Totally back off fag ( guesses ) . Does this add up ? Yes I’m sure you’re about right. So it’s a temporary measure to get more income on match day. And absolutely nothing wrong with that. Just surprised it’s taken 7 years to do it! UTG! TG didn't say it was a temporary stand. He didn't say it wasn't either, to be fair. He said some stuff about how we need a new stadium, of course, as he would. I really don't think it would be too difficult to get to 18,000 capacity in something that might look like a bit of a dog's dinner with a new south stand, add-ons either side(s) of the East and West stands and perhaps an additional seated tier above the Thatchers end towering (!) above the fanzone. But it would do the job in the short to medium term, bring in a lot more ticket revenue, and cost a hell of a lot less than a new stadium or complete rebuild. Still expensive, and I'm not paying the bill, so maybe it's pie in the sky. But as I've said, doing nothing is not an option.

I hope he is right but Wael has always maintained that developing the Mem is not an option. That he’s now decided that developing the Mem is an option, albeit perhaps a temporary one, after 7 years is confusing. UTG! Taking this the full width would be around 140 x 12 = 2,800. The South West is about 40 x 12 so taking this into a wrap around would possibly be the equivalent of another block of seats meaning 80 x 12 = 960. So all in all, 4,000 could be done without increasing the height too much.

We are likely to be at the Mem for at least another 5 years so a modest investment would be wise. It'll also have the benefit of enclosing the ground more and reducing the wind. It's also keeping open the possibility of improving further should a new stadium drag out. We've had permission for a 5,500 seat stand replacing the North Terrace which I'd think would probably the next most simple change. I've always been impressed by Home Park with its three fairly simple stands and a grandstand which we could replicate. Anyway, not my money. 🤓

Ignore me. 😑

Maybe the number of close sell outs (and complete sell outs of seats)has prompted it? Wasnt needed for most games for a good while!

To put it in perspective the atyeo stand at the sh** holds 3k so it would be about the same size allowing the extra 1k for the corner and side. That's a pretty big increase in current height, I would guess at least twice as high as the current tent.

Having the South stand hold 4000 (including away fans) means other areas 'could' be redeveloped without going under the minimum required seating level. It also keeps the overall attendance reasonable if other stands are fully or partially closed for rebuilds.

So nice to be talking about ground improvements after all the wilderness years of nothing.

More interesting twitter discussion in reply to this from Ledbury Gas. Looking at the photo, to get anywhere near 4K i think the corner and current SW stand location will have to be maximised (incl. facilities and entry) as there is the most space there. Still cant see how we get to 4K without making the south stand too high to sail through planning tho

Q what entrance do Rovers fans use for the south stand when it is split between home and away fans?

Q what entrance do Rovers fans use for the south stand when it is split between home and away fans? No different to normal I guess? Long walk down the back of the West Stand for the home fans. Away fans (whether using the away Terrace or part of the South Stand) walk through the car park behind the East Stand.

Never been in the SS so wasnt sure where Rovers fans currently entered. Makes sense

And they are all called "John"🙂

Took a disabled Guy once to the South Tent and were sat next to the Darlington supporters one of whom had a big drum playing to the chant of 'Darlo.Darlo'. Asked a large lady steward could we be moved away from the visiting fans and will never forget her saying ,'Be thee Rovers supporters? Thought our Home shirts may have given her a clue!!! Anyway we stuck it out and Richard Walker scored to send Darlo home all that way empty handed.

I absolutely think a new stadium is far superior but if we can fit 4k along that edge then that makes me feel a lot more comfortable about the idea of renovating the Mem piecemeal.
I’m also losing faith on the FM having been previously optimistic about its possibility.
At this point I’d take any sort of stadium enhancement.

Why would we share the south stand with away supporters. Give them the east terrace up to the halfway and give them a section of seating in the east stand.
