I'll be delighted if this happens. Has seemed like such an easy win for the last decade.

i had a look around the back of the south stand with TG a few years back and there is hardly any room to go backwards, the stand goes neaarly up to the rear bounday. you coukld move the pitch forward a bit to allow more room for a bigger stand but that is limited as well because the side of the stand would block viewing from the side of the ground. So i think it would be very difficult to increase capacity from 1,300 to 4,000, the south west and south stands would have to be trebled in size. Brtight needs re- think his maths. trying to find some planning stuff on when we were 'trying' to build a new centenary Stand as phase 1 of a Mem redevelopment. I am sure I recall some planning stuff for the various phases as trying to work out what could go/was going to go at the South end Bristol Rovers Football Club has appointed The Miller Partnership as architects for phase one of the redevelopment of the Memorial Stadium - the ground it shares with Bristol Rugby Club.
The football club will be applying for planning permission for the £5m redevelopment of the Centenary Stand within the next eight weeks and hopes to secure a grant for the majority of the financing from the Football Foundation.
The stand, which currently seats 1,120 will be demolished and replaced with one with a capacity of 6,000. It will also include 20,000sq ft of commercial and catering space.
Work is expected to begin at the close of the season in May 2004 and should be completed by Christmas of the same year.
Phases two and three will involve the redevelopment of the North Stand - which will be converted from terraces to seating for 5,000 and include 13,000sq ft of commercial space - and replacing the temporary, 1,000-capacity South Stand with a permanent 3,000-seat stand. Regarding the height issue and any possible objections. Do the club still own any properties in alton Road or were they sold off? Were they owned by the Club or the Owners (I can't remember if it was Dunford or Higgs?). I think that they may have been owned by somebody else connected to the club, who may not have been a Director. I seem to remember reading that the houses were in his wife's name (not that that makes any difference). I think that his first name might have been Colin, but don't hold me to that.

The two houses in Alton Road directly behind the South Stand were owned by the club. For a short period of time two directors owned the properties in exchange for funding to keep the club afloat. They were sold back to the club within 12 months of the two leaving the board for no financial gain. There were also two properties owned by one of the directors daughters which the club needed friendly ownership of as they would have been blighted by the Memorial Regeneration Project and any objection by the owners would have scuppered the planning application. These properties were also sold to the board. The Colin and wife event you refer to was regarding Colin’s wife demanding repayment of her preferential shares which she was entitled to do. Colin’s wife isn’t in the best of health so maybe we should let this one stay in the past.

I didn't mean anything detrimental to Colin's wife in my post, apologies if it came across like that.

No your post didn’t come across that way but you know how these threads escalate and I’m happy to discuss by PM as some old wounds can cause harm.

Big deal! Does the club expect us Gasheads to jump for joy? Bit odd? Seems like a good idea and a needed investment if we are at the Mem for 5-7 years minimum. And if we decide to stay, it allows us to rebuild the other sides one at a time without losing to much capacity (especially seating) I am pleased. But also think that it may not happen and this will be the next multi-hundred page topic of disappointment!

Anyone know who "OldFrank" is? This is his brutal response to the Bristol Live article Panic is setting in again so no surprise to hear about this pie in the sky idea. Mr Bright is attending a football conference to boost his ego and is flattered to be asked for an interview so must quickly think of something interesting to say. We know from the board meeting report that a revamp of the stand has been mooted and its likely the two leading lights have talked about it after enjoying a round of golf. So now Mr Bright has the chance to show the interviewer how important he is and out out come numbers and timescales which have no basis in reality but which Rovers supporters love to lap up.

If this new stand manages to get built, then I suggest the club demolish the main stand {centenary stand) andbiuld a new structure that goes the entire length of the terracing. There is plenty of space to do this and could up the capacity to 15 - 16,000

Someone, somewhere, is sat down reading this and thinking “feck me, did we say it was actually happening? Did we say it was being built rather than considered? Bu88er, now we have to deliver this” All whilst the Mission Impossible ring tone on a distant phone can be heard. To be continued……..

www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/bristol-rovers-reveal-ambitions-treble-8180670Whoever is he must be related to SwissGas as he seems to be another who's totally anti Wael but never comments on Rovers matches. There's another similar oddity who posts on OTIB, KP said neither's SwissGas so I he assume he must know their identities. I'm a bit surprised Sam Frost didn't ask TG for his comments on whether the club really intended having a 4,000 capacity stand before publishing the article
