Even if all we do is build a new stand, that in itself must be an achievement for our club.
After all, when was the last time we managed even that?

I mean if we’re talking about temporary stands, which is what the new south stand will be, then the last one we built was the now dismantled family stand that was on the East terrace.

If it doesn’t wobble when the ball hits it then it doesn’t belong at the Mem! Remember when that wayward shot knocked the down pipe off the South Stand? So Non League.

I mean you’d hope it will be sheeted metal instead of fabric and something a little bigger than what is in place now, so it’ll be a step forward in that regard. It will be temporary in the sense that it can be put together and taken apart quicker than any conventional stand with foundations.

I remember it well and the steward/ supporter hanging on to it before lowering it to the ground.

Anyone know who "OldFrank" is? This is his brutal response to the Bristol Live article Panic is setting in again so no surprise to hear about this pie in the sky idea. Mr Bright is attending a football conference to boost his ego and is flattered to be asked for an interview so must quickly think of something interesting to say. We know from the board meeting report that a revamp of the stand has been mooted and its likely the two leading lights have talked about it after enjoying a round of golf. So now Mr Bright has the chance to show the interviewer how important he is and out out come numbers and timescales which have no basis in reality but which Rovers supporters love to lap up.
www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/bristol-rovers-reveal-ambitions-treble-8180670Whoever is he must be related to SwissGas as he seems to be another who's totally anti Wael but never comments on Rovers matches. There's another similar oddity who posts on OTIB, KP said neither's SwissGas so I he assume he must know their identities. I'm a bit surprised Sam Frost didn't ask TG for his comments on whether the club really intended having a 4,000 capacity stand before publishing the article I expect that Click Bait is the priority for all staff at the Post.

TG's program notes indicate the intention was to have a solid roof, if it does then it will clearly be a big improvement on the present tents.

If one remembers the design for the 18000 mem ,the South end was a 2 tier stand.

Sure it's down the a number of factors but we don't often fill the stand in place currently. Is that just because it is a rusty tent? 🤔

Even if all we do is build a new stand, that in itself must be an achievement for our club. After all, when was the last time we managed even that? It will be a modern shiny tent. Not sure we are really building anything, certainly not a permanent structure. But if it gets more people sitting. Ehind the goal than the couple hundred at the moment then it will be a success. Danger is the same number of people sit in the stand with a lot more empty seats around them.

If it's 4000 and the stands are close to the pitch then the atmosphere should be cracking and hopefully quite intimidating for the away side. I think just building something like that will encourage more fans. To be able to be seated in a dry, comfortable environment at the mem is somewhat unique

When the floodlights were erected 20-ish years ago, didn't the drilling get delayed as the ground was practically bedrock?
If I remember correctly the contractors had to stop and get new tougher equipment.
Not sure how far down the stand foundations are required, but I hope the club are aware of this as it could lead to further delays and additional costs if specialist equipment is needed.
Re club owned houses, pretty sure Craig Hinton owned a house in Trubshaw Gardens, Ed Ware had one nearby somewhere and of course there was the garage on Strathmore Rd which was owned by the club for years - but it was only discovered by the current board about two years ago. There also used to be a club owned house that Jackie Pitt lived in, in Kingswood (Douglass Rd?) and a house in Dormer Rd.
Always thought there would be a monopoly game style buying up of Alton Rd and Strathmore, that were going to be rented out until the club got the full sweep!

www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/bristol-rovers-reveal-ambitions-treble-8180670To be fair David Bright seems to enjoy attending trade conferences and speaking at them more than he seems to enjoy speaking to supporters on official and wide reaching channels. And no replying to the odd supporter on Twitter is not real communication.

He’s either confident or dropped a bollock… knowing we are gagging for news to leak any detail in an interview like that instead of officially just adds pressure to deliver something more than “larger East terrace tent”.

Regarding the height issue and any possible objections. Do the club still own any properties in alton Road or were they sold off? Looking on google earth there seems to be an area of wasteland to the south/south west of the south stand. Its not big ( and looks like it has a couple of kids trampolines in it). Not sure if rovers own it but if cleared would give a bit better access to any new south stand. If it really is wasteland (although someone must own it).we could do something like the old Dell at Southampton. Don't laugh. Brentford already have.

The problem is an aerial view gives you a false impression of the topography. I have been down there, to access that bit of land you need a ladder, it’s a small cliff edge down to that wasteland which is why it has never been utilised. I saw an earlier post mention bedrock and problems installing the floodlights. That likely won’t be a worry for any temp stand. If any actual traditional build style foundations are required in the future then ground condition surveys will be conducted and used in the PCI (pre construction information). Only then can the works be tendered acuratly by the principal contractors invited. That should really have happened for floodlight install as-well as I suspect, given the height, they have substantial footings.
