I think the new owner said the east would be extended towards the north and south. In the absence of a billionaire knocking the whole lot down I think this will just be like for like additions meaning a seamless looking larger east stand. Will probably mean the terracing to the front, which will hopefully have seats placed over the top, will remain uncovered. The real opportunity will be on the north end which has much more room for a big Kop type stand with plenty of entertaining space underneath. The South could have a SW style mini wrap around over the current away terrace to add a bit of symmetry at that end. A new North stand could also wrap around a bit to cover the family terrace and that part of the east terrace opposite. I agree with that, thats kinda the easiest/lowest touch point IMO. Not sure it would have many seats though. How many seats does the East stand have now? If you treble that and put seats in the East terrace, it might actually reduce the capacity? I've got a figure in my head of around 5,000 in total (1,200 seats and 3,500 terrace spaces?) but can't find anything to confirm.

I would say that this number is a bit high Stuart although definitely in the right ballpark, 1200 about right but I would say 2500 terrace spaces making around 4000. But I might be completely wrong 🤪.

But I believe the terrace spaces may have been slightly reduced when H&S got involved & stopped people standing behind the wall at the front of the terrace.

I assume/hope the extensions to the east stand seating will be cantilevered as the current, if for no other reason than to ensure rooflines and angles all line up. Looking at a quick photo, I dont think there is enough room either side to replicate the number of seats as existing. Probably 2 blocks each side, so if currently 400 per block, we'd go from 1200 to 2800 seats - with great views and premium prices! Then do a "Plymouth" at the front to change slope and install (mainly open to the elements) seating for a completely all seated stand - probably around 4000 cap. The North gives the biggest opportunity - hopefully another 3000 seats and 2-3000 safe standing in front?

Thanks, does that include the away terrace and the segregated section? If Percy is right in his post above we could be looking at an additional 1,000 seats along the back, then if we take 1 seat along the terrace taking 1.5 standing fans, that's around 1,400? Total would be 3,500-4,000?

Assuming the dots on the ticket site are correct the East stand has 1021 seats. Only goes back 12 rows. Deceptively large just because row 1 is already high up.

You might be right - maybe fairly modest increase on East? Would visually look a lot better than having a stand which covers only a third of the pitch length though - did City do similar with their Dolman stand (replacing terrace in front of their red brick wall with seats)? I think the big one will be the North Stand which has potential for something really big - like was talked about under Dunford many moons ago.

The best way forward for the East Stand would be to retain the terracing as a paddock and completely rebuild the top tier. What’s being said at the moment is all quite sketchy.

So what are people's guesses on the stadium plans for step 2 & 3? Are we knocking the East down? Are we extending the East either side? What about Thatchers, are we building something on top (temporary) like the East stand? Or knocking it down and builing a stand? Reason for asking is a few know I'm a nerd with stadium designs, so i've started seeing whats possible. Starting with a copy of the South stand... Looking forward to seeing your stadium images btw.

A walkway below the current stand running along the length , then the bottom half could be pitched lower down to pitch Level. ps I’ve no idea if this is possible and I’m making it up on the spot ! You must be working on the assumption the East stand stays and two stands either side are bolted onto the main stand (otherwise the lot gets demolished). Then a lot of the terracing will go either side of the East stand just leaving the middle section of terracing . What can be done about the middle terracing is open to design . It could be left as terracing ? . What about raising it to be seated ?. As Topper said; covering it could be difficult . It could be uncovered terracing / seating ?. Personally I'd sooner stand than sit on uncovered terracing, get soaked whilst sat at Twerton after the fire in the main stand is still one of my worst experiences watching Rovers. I can't see how any roof can be put on the terracing/seating without affecting the sight lines from the East Stand, extending the roof might be an option but fans would still get wet on the first few rows if the wind was blowing towards the east.

If the primary objective is to increase the number of seats whilst also increasing capacity. Then the east stand will be extended north and south and the terrace will remain as all home support. This will increase the home fan numbers by about 3000-3500.

It'll hardly be progress still having terracing in front of the east stand, when most L1 grounds are all seaters, if we ever get to the Championship the stadium needs to be mostly all seated?

I think I'm going to build out the East stand all the way across and put in uncovered seats along the bottom of the east terrace. What I cant decide is about the North. I agree with you about it having the most potential. But that requires a real stand, because of the space available you'd be knocking down the bar and flattening a lot of the ground I think, because of the slope its built on. Same as the NW terrace. I'm not sure whether the club are going to spend that much. What im pondering is a larger version of the Griffin park away end, almost on top of the North stand. Kinda a mix between that and the current East stand?

Just looked at aerial view. East stand does pretty much cover 1/2 the pitch so even with a few extra rows behind the goallines it'll only be 1100-1200 extra seats if the current seating plan is the template.

A smaller version of what I believe Tottenham built in their new ground? Will need to be a complete demolition of the existing north terrace and the supporters bars behind (imo).

Why not just mirror the new stand and stick the bar in the concourse/behind the stand?

I think it'll need to be like Eric said really because mirroring the South stand isn't really big enough. The Thatchers is what 3k? Looks like the South stand (without the SW part) is about the same.

True, but if you turn it to seats you will lose a third of the capacity of the former terrace. At one stage the east terrace held the highest amount of standing places in the ground. A fully seated new east stand would hold about 5000 . A seated and terraced east side could hold 6500 perhaps.
