Following further works over recent weeks, the club can confirm that the South Stand project is progressing well, and it is hoped that the remaining works will be finished early in the new year.
The drainage and tarmac surfacing work was completed yesterday, allowing the remaining fitting out of the concourse, toilets, and concessions to proceed.
As explained in the previous update we will need to obtain building control sign-off before we can commence any test events. We will provide a timeline for the test events as soon as we can confirm all the elements are in place.
As an interim measure, we are pleased to confirm that following a Safety Advisory Group meeting yesterday, permission has been granted to extend our temporary usage of the south stand for the Christmas period.
The small increase will allow all the South Stand season ticket holders to sit in the Southwest corner of the new stand. Season ticket holders for this area will receive an e-ticket in the same way as they have been for previous fixtures.
Again, we would like to thank all the season ticket holders for their patience while the work has been ongoing.
The club would like to again place on record its thanks to the club's Safety Advisory Group members and the club staff who have been working hard to progress the project.

Good to get an update and explainer of what’s happening. Wonder how many extra seats can be used and if this is enough to tip over the 10k for Pompey match ?

It isn't half taking a long time after a fast start. Such a shame it won't be ready for Christmas, but I suppose in the great scheme of things it doesn't really matter. Once it's up and running and packed with horrible away fans we'll forget all about the delays.

For those who sat in the South Stand on Boxing Day, what was the view like.? Were the pillars a nuisance? If they were, as there were so few sitting there, did you just change seats?

We discussed this in the "Charlton on Friday" thread In all fairness to cheamgas I'd have thought the view from the stand would be in the post about the stand. Just one of those things where the subject switches to other posts.

Compared to previous seasons with the tents, there are less pillars in both the South and South West Stand. We have sat in both. We were about 7 rows up for the Portsmouth game and had a clear view of the majority of the pitch including the Thatchers end goal. Although there are 4 intermediary pillars on the South Stand, we still had a good view of the goal at that end. The seats on the area joining the 2 stands has probably the most restricted view. However we stood on the Thatcher’s end for over a decade and always ended up with some pillar obstructing part of the pitch/goal, or people’s heads or tall fans!! Overall though we like the new stand. There is a lot of room under the South Stand for the proposed facilities. Slowly but surely things are improving.

But agreed, it should be in the thread about the stand

We are sneakily filling more seats each game, have begun seating people around the corner.
Is it the work on the concourse that is holding up filling the main body, as I notice the Portsmouth supporters were exiting the stand by walking onto the grass rather than the exits in the stand itself.

As well as the test events which have been mentioned, at present there are insufficient toilet facilities to cater for the whole new stand. We have to use the toilets under the West Stand and there were big queues on Tuesday at half time. There were portable toilets between the SW and South Stands when they were tents. In addition the single catering unit is very busy.

From what I've saw on YouTube posts of the Portsmouth game I will say I was rather impressed with the South Stand

From what I've saw on YouTube posts of the Portsmouth game I will say I was rather impressed with the South Stand Even from the Thatchers bar it looks impressive. Definitely encloses the ground and the height makes it more imposing than places like Shrewsbury. Unless you have a seat right behind a pillar I dont think sight lines are an issue without a small shuffle left/right. The pillars in the South West corner do look an issue though.

The lady commentator on iFollow for the Blackpool away game had a big problem with a pillar there. She kept on saying that she couldn't see what was going on because of the pillar and asking Keith Brookman what was happening. Enjoy my pillarless view from the East Stand.

Journalists say there are lots of obstructed views at Kenilworth road and that the new build at Luton is still three years away.Do hope our place will be sorted for when we make the Prem in two years time!!!!!

The Principle of Moments states that when a body is balanced, the total clockwise moment about a point equals the total anticlockwise moment about the same point. Remove pillars and hang some massive bird feeders off the back to please the local twitchers
