Was it a Wolves fan who fell through a stand roof after climbing up for an away game somewhere? Yes, at Scarborough iirc.

At the invitation of a friend i went up to Gloucester last night , Kingsholm to watch Rugby. thought it would be good to check out the ground. The ground is literally straight off a main rd., a large seated stand all down one side which rises from pitch level , a good size seated stand one end which incidentally has probably less than 1/2 the space behind it compared to behind our club house terrace, this stand ,although solid is not concrete and may be of prefabricated type. the other side is an all standing covered terrace similar to in front of our East Stand and the other end is made up of two tiers of hospitality boxes with standing terrace in front. there are also hospitality boxes at the top of the main stand. My overall impression is that they have a smaller area to work with than at the Mem ( can't be sure) and i am convinced that if the will was there something akin could be done at the Mem. Last night was a sell out apparently which i believe is 16000.

I went up to see Gloucester play Munster in the Heineken Cup about 20 years ago (courtesy of some of my Irish family that travelled over) I thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and I thought Kingsholme to be a tidy little Rugby ground' and not far from some decent pubs and a short walk from the Train Station

Glad you enjoyed rugby, someone has to. Grrr! Beef cake! Just FYI if you want to see a load of guys who inject drugs having a scrap, turbo island is a cheaper option. :-)

I think old rugby would have been better but the 100% massive steroid sides of beef pro game doesn’t interest me, when it was quick backs V big lumps it made for a more interesting game

There is a demonstrable difference between athletes pre 60s and post. There is a difference between ordinary men pre 2000s and post. What was considered a “big bloke” prior to recent history is skinny today. Go to any gym today and most serious guys are bigger than boxers and rugby players were 20 years ago. We hear that women have pressure on them to reach “unattainable standards” but goodness me, to keep up as a man you have to literally inject yourself with male sec hormones, tren and winstrol which seems a little less pressure than just having to eat salads and do a bit of time on the step machine. As someone who’s done a lot of natural weightlifting, even after 2 years work I’m not as big as a man who trained pretty lazily and did a couple of test cycles. You just cannot get the size of those rugby players without needles or HGH, not in a million years.

Just going back to the theme of the thread, but personally I think the fact that the club are investigating a new South/South West stañd is really good news.
From my time as a roving programme and 50/50 seller, I know there is quite a bit of land there especially without the additional pitch requirements needed for rugby and there is additional land the sides away from the pitch, which the club can utilize.
I'm also sure that there is plenty of space for a concourse area underneath that would mean possible bar and food areas which could increase revenue at half time.
As an aside, as someone involved in the very beginning of the Raise the Roof campaign, if the club was to change the 50/50 from supporting the youth, to help Build A Stand, does anyone think that would help improve the monies raised from the 50/50?
Obviously back when raise the roof started, the Mem was a two sided ground, but fans on the Centenary and later the West stand still contributed when the physical benefit was for the fans located on the Thatchers.

Agreed, the reason i posted the 'Kingsholm' item was to highlight that i think the Mem has a bigger area to work from than Kingsholm and the latter have managed to build a tidy 16000 capacity stadium with fringe benefits, i am convinced if the will was there Rovers could do the same, like the idea of fans being able to contribute somehow as well.

A proper stand would no doubt get much more sponsorship so that should help towards costs as well - probably at least double what the South and South West combined currently get.
If the club announced it was going ahead, there would be a lot of publicity for the company ie the Joe Bloggs South Stand etc (not like Southend's? Rose West Stand!) - a bit of an oversight!

Yeah we could also have the Kanye West stand, the Hitchcock North by Northwest stand and the Ray East Stand (I think he was a cricketer some time ago).

Keep an eye out for the tweet. Can any tit join in the bird pun? No, only those with a knowledge of birds, otherwise you’ll just be winging it.

Yeah we could also have the Kanye West stand, the Hitchcock North by Northwest stand and the Ray East Stand (I think he was a cricketer some time ago). Take a leaf out of fgr and build a new wooden East stand...The Clint Eastwood stand...
