Ryan Jones is a fantastic prospect. I was delighted when we beat Barry Fry at the last minute to sign him from Weston. I’ve been disappointed that he has not been given a chance, especially when Barton signed a left back who couldnt get into Stockport’s team. If he is released I will not renew my season ticket as my own small protest. I agree he's a great prospect but promotion from L2 to L1 didn't help him personally. He's not ready for L1 football. He could probably play conference level this year as he seems to be above Hungerford's level, as does Jed Ward. He needs a good summer of conditioning, strengthening and preseason. I'm expecting him to earn a deal and to get a run in the side for the PSF. Tbh 1981 we don’t know if he’s good enough for L1 football or not he’s never been given the chance. You may be correct but we don’t honestly know. And if he just keeps playing at a lower level I don’t think we’ll ever know. Surrounded by better players he will also look better. Players like Ryan Jones are important, we apparently beat Posh to his signature yet I wonder if Ryan now regrets that decision. I know at Posh he would have got a chance. With us, tbh he has been allowed to ‘develop’ on the edge of the first team. Other players may well see that and wonder if it’s worth joining us. Not a good look imo. UTG!

Remember when Lewis Haldane had to give up pro football because his ankle (?) was shot to pieces . Went and played for Yate Town I think , scored an absolute hatful. There’s a massive difference between semi pro and league footy.

Ryan Jones is 21, should be playing league football by now.

There’s a massive difference between semi pro and league footy. You’re right, there is a huge gap between semi pro and pro football when you are in your late twenties early thirties. However there is also the argument that the youngsters, 16,17,18, 19 year olds need to be playing regular mens football ( at a good level, ie Step 1,2,3 possibly 4 or 5.) If you can play at these levels at that age, you must surely have something about you that will develop your game. I know it’s financial, but almost the backward view for us not to have an u23 squad.

It has been a great disappointment to me that young players from our youth, academy, under 23s whatever have not been given enough of an oppertunity to make it in the first team, one of the reasons i was behind the 'Garner' project was the emphasis on development, i thought it made a lot of sense as we had a very promising set of young players that i was convinced would make it, the idea was sound ,the execution of the plan was to put it bluntly 'a shambles'., and one by one they have been discarded. Our reputation among promising youngsters, i would imagine, has plummeted as a result. I have not seen anything of Ryan Jones but IMHO if he is 21 then he should be in and around the first team, though i agree with Tilly that having agreed a loan spell he should not be recalled to play in meaningless matches at seasons end and should be allowed to continue to help his loan club in high stakes fixtures, as far as i am concerned a club like ours has to bring through young players and it does us no credit that it just is not happening, save the rare exception.

Agree with you Would like to see Greendslade, Ward and Jones at least doing pre-season with the main squad and given a chance to impress and play. Wouldnt mind Ward being loaned out to National League side rather than warming our bench. Who was the young lad that reall impressed and scored in this season? Plus Langlais would be good to see again in some friendlies

I think our last two games are to be played after Hungerfords season has ended.
If they are safe and brought back a week early, it could mean he misses one game for them but potentially play a part in 4 league games, which could be a better acid test as it seems he is too good for NLS and at least he will be seen by our coaches.

Looks like he has been doing well at Truro, Season extended for at least another game as now in the play offs. 4 Goals and a couple of assists and 2 man of the match awards.

arvey Greenslade's Loan Finished with Truro, a great contribution to the end of Truro's season 5 Goals, 2 assists, 2 game changing performances from off the bench to win from losing positions, Goal of the month and 2 man of the match performances and scoring his Penalty in the play off semi final shootout! Ending yesterday in Promotion as playoff final winners. I'm sure a great experience for him and now Truro in National league south along with W-S-mare, Taunton, Yeovil, Torquay, Chippenham and Bath The National league south seems to be getting a stronger presence from the south west and a great opportunity for some of our youngsters to learn. Well Done Harvey..

Saw a tweet from Harvey Greenslade (apologies not sure how to link it on here) saying how much he's enjoyed his first year as a pro and looking forward to next year.
I assume from that he's either already under contract or has been offered a new one
Not seen anything regarding any of the other younger players, Lawrence I think has a contract for next season, anyone know of any of the others ?

Crying out for local talent @ BRFC.
Have been told local lad Will Tizzard (6’3” 20 yr old CB) is being released by Southampton.
My mate is aChippenham fan and they really rated him when he was on loan.
Worth a look JB 👀👀

So lucas Vaughan, Jarmani Langlais, Malik Sesay and Lene Burden to name most have been released from the club. So It is Jerry Lawrence who will be the only one from that crop who has a contract for Next year which was decided last year.

Normally there is an add on when the retained list comes out with info on the 2nd Year Scholars....was surprised there wasn't. Sesay has been getting rave reviews at Swindon Supermarine which at his age isn't too bad a standard....same standard as Greenslade been playing who's been offered a new contract and is older! Burden has been playing at Harrow so again a good standard for his age! The other 2 not so far up the pyramid but they are still scholars and have been playing men's football! It will be a shame if none of them get offered a pro contract as there seemed potential with them all!

Was Part of the Chippenham Team that beat Lincoln in first round of FA cup proper! one Rovers player that can say he has beat Lincoln this year! Along with Luke Russe, Tom Mehew and Alefe Santos. All of those three had moments when it looked like they might make the grade. I see Luke Russe has now signed for Bath City.

Also Greenslade has extended his contract with us for another year, suprised this has been missed!? Harvey said: "I’m really pleased to be able to extend my stay here and I’m excited about what’s to come. I’m 100% focused on this football club and I’m working hard this off-season to be ready for the campaign ahead". www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/2023/june/new-deal-for-Greenslade/
