Being bored I’ve had a quick look and it seems more than half of his goals came in games where we scored 4 or more goals. Among the wins were three where we scored 8 goals, one where we scored 9 and one game where we scored 10. There were plenty of Mickey Mouse teams back then too, they were just different ones! Shush with your facts. Put the rose coloured glasses on! Tough to compare different eras but I think the modern players get a rough deal sometimes. Anyway, Mr Charlton has the accolade that counts and it hangs around his neck!

Don't think it's a question of this player 's better than that player and so on, Bobby Charlton was a player who would have walked into any world 11 at the time, his game totally different from Harry's whose achievement should not be undervalued, BUT when Bobby played and received the ball on 1/2 way line the buzz in the stadium would go up several notches as he strode towards the opposition penalty area, those lucky enough to be seated would be up and out of them as they knew what was coming, a thunderbolt into top corner, very few players had or have that ability.

Too many pens. Personally I can’t make any true comparison but each to their own plus Charlton won a place in a team that win something 18 out of 54? Anyone rocking the quick maths for a percentage? Goals a goal doesn’t matter how it goes in😎 Each to their own, think i will see Charlton and the boss personally. Watching many of his 30 yarders is magic

You’re forgetting all the Mickey Mouse teams that now play football on the World stage. At the time of Bobby Charlton there were very few teams I would regard as pushovers. The San Marino’s and Gibraltar’s of this world were nowhere to be seen. Zaire qualified for a World Cup that we couldn’t😂😂😂8 years after we won the thing! Goalkeeper was a clown mind 😉

Can you imagine the sky prima Donna players trying to play on the pitches they used to have, heading a wet and soaked leather stone and getting up, after a proper hard tackle.

While that is a fair point, Rooney failed to deliver when it really mattered. Not like Kane then Did anyone ever see that ball again after it was launched into space Without Kane, we wouldn't have got as far as we did in 2018 WC and 2020 Euros. Yes he missed that penalty, but that doesn't mean we would have won if he did score it. Rooney was immense in his first tournament but he never turned up again after that. If he didn't play in 2006, 2010, 2012, 2014 or 2016 I doubt we would have been knocked out any earlier than we were.

My favourite is ‘Kane doesn’t score when it matters’, ya know like Regular double figures in every qualifying group stage 93rd min away at Hampden 92nd min against Tunisia (WC2018) World Cup hat trick Against Colombia, World Cup knock out match World Cup golden boot winner Euro 2020 R16 Vs Germany Euro 1/4 final in Rome Extra time penalty in a major tournament Semi Final World Cup 1/4 final Vs France when 1-0 down Doesn’t even scratch the surface for his key contributions in big games for his country.

I think it was Zaire where a defender ran out of a wall at a free kick and hoofed the ball up the pitch - thinking the whistle being blown for the free kick allowed him to kick the ball !!

He's got a lot closer and was top scorer at the Euro's. BUT, When it really, REALLY mattered, the old nerve went That one time yeah but I’m pretty sure he has a lot of tournament goals where as WR has only one WCup goal. br]WR burst in to the scene in the euros I think it was 2004 and was brilliant but never really did much else in the other tournaments he played in. Kane on the other hand has been consistently good in major tournaments and the only black mark is one missed penalty which as we all know can happen.

The nerve wasn’t too bad in the World Cup R16 shootout & Euro final🤷🏻♂️ See also Baggio, Dude had an alright career and subsequent legend Status regardless of ‘94. The focus and obsession over one moment out of an entire international career (to date) is just odd. One strike of the ball out of 81 caps. A reflection of modern society I guess.

The Zaire Goalkeeper made history for being the first goalie in world cup history to be substituted for being crap and not through injury.
