The NLS will be a great league for local football next season with some big local matches. As to Yeovil, I have real sympathy for them but tbh they were our rivals for 7/8 years but I can now revert to my liking for them. Their story was a remarkable one, and lots of myths surrounding their rise to the Championship. The man with the money left just before they got there so it immediately became harder. Fry and the subsequent owners didn’t have the resources to maintain them there and they’ve now reverted to being a small town club in the NLS. The pandemic hit them harder than most with that cancelled season ending when they were 4th in the NL. A real fight to return to the EFL destroyed by Covid. And they’ve never recovered. (I don’t expect others to have my sympathy for them by the way)
As has often been said, thank you Wael, esp for the Covid years. There for the grace of……. could have been us.
UTG!

In all the many years I’ve supported Rovers (since the early 70s) most of them we haven’t given a second thought to Yeovil. We didn’t have any feelings for them either way, they were an irrelevance.
Most of our fans were probably quite pleased when they got themselves promoted into the Football League in same way as we’d be pleased if Bath City ever managed it.
However at the pinnacle of their success many of their fans couldn’t but help give it the ‘big un’ to us especially when their absolute highest point coincided with our absolute lowest.
What goes around comes around. You go back to where you’ve been for most of our existence and the gap goes back to where it’s mostly been to. You are an irrelevance only this time there is a lot less goodwill towards you. There’s every chance we’ll never play you again in anything but a pre season friendly. 👋

Their fans largely were as arrogant as you could imagine with a massive chip on the shoulder when they got into the league (and turned us over at every opportunity) They initiated the ‘rivalry’ if you like so they can have it as we laugh at them all the way down to a league match against Chippenham & Tonbridge Angels next season.

Things could have been very different and as someone pointed out on a different thread, Jed McCrory actually set up a company to buy Bristol Rovers from Higgs. Set up as Bluebeard Bristol Rovers Ltd it is now named BLUEBEARD LEISURE LIMITED. There was also a Deborah Priestnall linked to that Bluebeard company, presumably related in some way to Scott Priestnall. find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/09206782/officers

Yes, some of them were arrogant, perhaps just acting like dicks. But tbh most fans would have done the same to another ‘local’ club which had overshadowed them for over a hundred years when they were beating us for a few years. Just like we would to a certain club south of the river. All clubs have them! But now they are just an irrelevance to us, a club whose results we may remember to catch at about 7.30 on a Saturday night….if we remember! Not strictly linked but it’s why you must always hold the owners to account and really question them. Yeovil were basically asset-stripped when they had very few assets. A downward spiral very difficult to escape from. UTG!

Very much reminds me of the story of Icarus.
Hopefully Nailsworth will follow them back into the abyss.

Unlike Yeovil their fans have never taken the pi5s out of us or proclaimed they are the future and us the past. In fact many FGR fans actually like the gas which is strange considering our two catchment areas are bordering each other. I wonder if Yeovil fans gave it large to the Sh1!heads in the one season they were a division higher than them?

Some time ago, I recall Gloucester City elected to join the North section rather than South due to travel costs.
Assuming they dont win promotion via the play offs are they able to switch back to the South?
I am sure the amount of local derbies would make it profitable.

I think that which league they play in depends on the geographical positions of the clubs which are relegated from the National League, it isn't a choice which the club can make/

Yeo-VILE back to their natural level after 2.5 decades of over achieving!
Lets hope BBC BRISTOL stops their bias on the coverage. Much more interested in hearing about WSM, Taunton Town, Chippenham Town & Especially Bath City who are all in the same division.
I do think it's a long way to the start of the season for them with their off-field problems. Can seeing them going pop. The land is being eyed up by the current owners.

I believe there is a Committee of the NL that looks at League make-ups and they always have a problem when deciding upon the lines to draw regarding NLS and NLN. Bishops Stortford, Gloucester have been in NLN despite being southern clubs because of the high number of clubs further south. If clubs don’t like it then the FA act as a final arbitrator. I think! 🤔

Most of their supporters just want to watch a game of football. Just a couple of over excitable fans at the end of last season that wound things up. They don't see us as rivals. The 'green' issue means as much to their regular supporters as it does to most people. They just have some distant supporters who follow them because of their green credentials. 'Best foot forward' on BT sport shows Stale Mince in a different light. Seems to have stopped preaching and just wants people to do their bit. He did say he literally takes the p155 out of away fans as their urine is used to water the pitch. Granted he could do a bit more to make away fans more welcome. As for Yeovil, that one fan 'Could be worse, could be Bristol Rovers' just sticks in peoples memories. Thought it was quite funny at the time, now the jokes on the other foot. It is what it is. I assume the rivalry was them just finding a team local - difficult where they are - to have a rivalry with.

We’re lucky none of our fans are like that. 😉 And you’re right it was funny but because it was aimed at us, we couldn’t see the humour. Take us out of it and we’d have thought it was funny. Still, all’s well that ends well. 👍 UTG!

I’d say Yeovil falling back into non league south is pretty much the equivalent of us dropping into non league . I’m sure they’ll be back in the top non league level in a season or two .

Lived in Stafford for 50 years.Stafford Rangers are right in the middle of England and would often go North or South for different seasons as their league dictated so clubs don't have a choice I suspect. They used to have mid week fixtures at Scarborough,Whitby or sometimes Dartford.Nightmare for part timers.

I've heard that the chap with the sign was quite good at taking any ribbing, when Yeovil dropped out of the league
