I don’t think anyone minds criticism but more often than not, people make up stories or untrue statements from “sources” and constantly pedal it like it is true. This year I’ve been reliably told that we’ve been up for sale, we’ve been offered around on the football black market, we’re skint, Hani is still funding us, Wael has lost interest because he hasn’t been at games and some of what I hear gets pedalled on here as well. KP saying the FM stadium is dead and follow the crumbs after speaking with lots of people involved (ok then) and Swiss on the other forum spouting all sorts of prophecies which in the last 2 days have been quashed. You’d think one of them would learn a lesson as the last time we were £18m in debt, Wael had run out of money and administration was around the corner, then the very next day he capitalised the lot. I think that’s the it that gets to Wael, just the lies and smears when in reality, he’s working hard to deliver us what no other owner has done in 60 years which is build and own a proper stadium. Thing is, people talking sh**e is absolutely par for the course at any club, he knows enough people in the game, and did so before he bought Rovers, to be aware of that. Clearly the insanity of the unfounded personal allegations is over and above criticism, and the people who did that should count themselves lucky they didn't end up in Court. But, other than that very specific incident, if people starting rumours on the Internet or calling you skint, or under 5% of the fanbase not praising you is really going to cause you harm, football ain't the game for you. He's far from alone mind - my City mate says Lansdown blocks reds on twitter for disagreeing with him!

I welcome our owners writings and am very grateful for his overall efforts, if his vision and determination comes off we will all be elated.
Criticism is welcome but must be done openly and with genuine cause.
I think the vast majority are sick of the (what I would describe as) salty critics who whinge and wine in their little groups and regularly dramatise things they have almost created out of thin air. Sadly, they still are among us like a group of old men who didn’t get to keep their little exclusive club of feeling special and a few have had their faces put out and all they have left is to try and pour doubt and distrust on a new more modern fanbase and an older group who are happy to see a progressive set up try to succeed.
The old boys club is dead, here’s to the future. UTG!

Didn’t a group of (what I’ll only describe as **kheads) report him to the police for a very serious crime, which was as ridiculous as much as it was unfounded? Can understand why the guy might be a bit sensitive to the odd slating when he’s done nothing but amazing things for this football club and its supporters then have to put up with that s**t. Up the Gas & up the Wael. Yep. As well as the FA, the local council and tried to sell it to the press...Those dinosaurs call themselves Rovers fans as well as represented supporters for a good period of time. Why anyone felt the need to try and do that to an innocent man is beyond me, and the fact they knew him to be innocent will forever be unforgivable in my eyes. No one deserves that kind of mudslinging. I'm glad Wael got rid of them, the club and the SC has flourished and grown since their departure.

Surely their sole intention was to force Wael out of the club, as if he had been charged with the alleged offence he'd probably would have had no choice but to sell up. It's hard to believe so called supporters would try and force out an owner who may well finally deliver a new stadium and in the meantime seems content to write off £3m annual losses.

That's what was doing the rounds at the time. Someone who thought they had links to people who'd hand them control. That stuff was mind-blowingly cruel and irresponsible. Not to mention short sighted - it's ridiculously difficult to get a charge on such things even when the person accused HAS done it let along when they obviously haven't.

Well I’m definitely in the Wael fan club if he delivers on all those promises. The ‘new’ stadium is taking a lot longer than I envisioned after his family took over the club and probably longer than Wael thought himself . Bit by bit he’s turning us from ragbag Rovers into a club we can all be really proud of . With top training facilities, a decent academy set up and a new stadium in the heart of the City we can really take the fight to our noisy neighbours and maybe even come out on top . Wouldn’t that be great ?
Cheers Wael UTG

Hopefully they have been stopped from attending games at The Mem.

After reading that I don't think there's any doubting his commitment to Rovers (not that personally I had any concerns over that previously) If everything in that statement comes off we are going to be completely unrecognisable as a club to the one he first took over. A new stadium, further upgraded training ground, a cat 2 academy plus an upgraded mem whilst this is all being done. Obviously being Rovers there's always that nagging doubt until it actually happens but imo a hugely positive update

Everything at the club has been polished in terms of procedures and professionalism. These people got a kick and some sort of ego trip out of garnering tit bits of info from the old guard. Fact is the club was then run like a W.I coffee morning. Well intended but unorganised. As for WAQ, welcome round are house for Sunday roast anytime. Hope he likes Malbec. Cheers everyone, happy Easter. 🥂

Im sure Wael takes on board many positive and negative comments from fans . You can learn from both.
Not sure i know of anyone who has invested as much money into Rovers (time relative) as Wael in the clubs history. Be interested in hearing the stories of those who may have.

A very encouraging letter from Wael. If he can achieve all he has set out we'll be in a marvelous position and will be able to fulfill our undoubted potential. We are very lucky to have Wael as our owner. He clearly loves the club and has continually financed the club with his hard earned money. Thank you Wael.

Class statement to be fair.
Wael hit nail on the head that the Stadium situation being close to heart for Gasheads. If Wael delivers the FM, then he will only be regarded even higher amongst us.
As frustrating as it was to not get a club update on the FM or any potential ground until now, it can't be argued that he hasnt done more than anyone previously, he has built a training ground, wiped debt, carried club through C19.
Positive week for the club, hope more updates come without having to wait so long. Hopefully on the pitch we can finish the season comfortably too.

That was a good read. It answered a fair few questions that have been asked and will be good reading for all gasheads: The South Stand will still be built ready for the new season. We should be seeing more informing the next month or so. He’s given a bit more information about the new Conygar development, including the need for patience as it’s going to take some time before it becomes a reality. Plans are being prepared for the next stage of The Quarters which will result, in time, in the Academy being based there. Plans for the football side of next season are being prepared, which should mean that JB will be able to recruit well to maintain the steady progress made. The pandemic and the time between his comments in August ‘19 and now show that it’s taken a toll on him and he’s been honest about that. His commitment to BRFC seems to be as strong as it was which will be reassuring to gasheads all over.
It’s good that he’s been able to report some good ground news which will relieve some of the pressure he must have been under. Not sure there will be much to report for a year or so but perhaps we will need to see what Conygar are saying in that time given that we will be waiting to see if plans are submitted early or by the 24.3.24.
I sometimes ask what’s happening re the ground but he’s answered that so well done Wael. Let’s hope there’s now steady progress towards the new ground. 👍
UTG!

WAQ is a gentleman, a benefactor of our club and has removed the milestone of debt which dragged us down for years.
He’s given us enough to be respectable while we regroup for a stadium. He gave us a decent bar, he’s given us the fanzone. Even with our current plight he’s tried to inject a little professionalism into our horrifically ameteur club.
I wont have a word said against any man who's done £25M plus down my beloved team and i think its time we all recognise what he's done, which is more than any other person in Bristol Rovers history.

Chairman George Humphreys (who you have probably never even heard of?) Regularly paid the players wages expenses to travel to away games out of his own pocket. He was not a rich business man but cared passionately about his club in the 1920s. His work to establish Rovers as a professional club has never really been acknowledged His living relatives in Bristol are waiting for club to honour him and have I know offered a silver bowl George received from the Directors following his retirement. Tom G did not reply to their correspondence apparently. So there were previous clubman who ensured Rovers survived
