WAQ is a gentleman, a benefactor of our club and has removed the milestone of debt which dragged us down for years. He’s given us enough to be respectable while we regroup for a stadium. He gave us a decent bar, he’s given us the fanzone. Even with our current plight he’s tried to inject a little professionalism into our horrifically ameteur club. I wont have a word said against any man who's done £25M plus down my beloved team and i think its time we all recognise what he's done, which is more than any other person in Bristol Rovers history. Chairman George Humphreys (who you have probably never even heard of?) Regularly paid the players wages expenses to travel to away games out of his own pocket. He was not a rich business man but cared passionately about his club in the 1920s. His work to establish Rovers as a professional club has never really been acknowledged His living relatives in Bristol are waiting for club to honour him and have I know offered a silver bowl George received from the Directors following his retirement. Tom G did not reply to their correspondence apparently. So there were previous clubman who ensured Rovers survived Weird post tbh. Especially when you ended with “apparently “

Can always rely on a hipster to pour scorn on the current owner by bringing up a former club employee from 100 odd years ago😂

Yes he's built us a new training ground Yes he's cleared all our debts Yes he's on his way to delivering us a new stadium
But apart from that, what has Wael ever done for us?

The club was offered items for loan from the Humphreys archive but heard nothing back. My point was there were other very passionate supporters of the club who personally funded the club in order for it to continue. Examples include the Dunfords and Nick Higgs etc

Agree the fact Wael has invested heavily is fantastic and saved the club at a very difficult time. But as I know from our history back to 1883 we have always lived hand to mouth struggling particularly if you listened to Gordon Bennett and Geoff Dunford which I did. I call club out when I feel its necessary and offer constructive criticism but I certainly don't continually do it. I feel you have to retract that. Promotions during the last two decades has been praised by me. I like msnh others want another Bristol Derby and fixtures in the Championship is that too much to ask for?

Blimey, this one went weird quickly........................
Wael is not above criticism for a few decisions but on the whole the club are better off with him than without him (for it is he and he alone), just like they were when the Dunford's took over and saved it and more importantly to protect it with the genius (yes it was genius) buyout clause in the lease of the mem to set the club up in a way that no-one could have predicted by securing ownership of the Mem
The view that we should continue to live hand to mouth with no vision for a future is almost borderline madness. Wael has this vision and the club is a better place with him in charge.

A strange few posts about good Rovers’ chairmen/owners. I’m glad herbert knows a lot of stuff others don’t, knowing a lot about where we came from is important. And singing the praises of one of them doesn’t mean the other one is any less. Blowing out the candle of a chairmen from nearly a hundred years ago won’t make Wael’s light shine any brighter.
We were obviously lucky to have George Humphreys when we did and we are lucky to have Wael now. Just as we were lucky to have the Dunfords. All obviously good people. Why argue about it? Thankfully the football has restarted this weekend after a mini close season. Great win today and I’m looking forward to upsetting someof the bigger teams in the last few matches.
UTG!

Delighted to say Rovers CE0 has now responded to the Humphreys family ten months on but apparently the original email went to an old email address. But pleased to report the family have had an invite to the board room for a future match and the Silver Bowl presented to the former Chairman will take pride of place in a new trophy cabinet. Great to hear this.

Apology from whom? But yeah, good result 👍🏼 From herbertblake I am guessing this refers to HB saying that the club didn't respond, but this was due to an incorrect email address being used? Does that deserve an apology? It's sorted now so its all good surely? Or not?

Or not? If I stated that someone hadn’t responded to correspondence, then realised that they hadn’t in fact received that correspondence, I would apologise. Everone is different I suppose. As I previously said very good news.
