Tom is a great player, and I loved his wholehearted game while at Rovers. But just don't get this love-in. He arguably left us worse off than the snake did when he left, refusing to sign a new improved contract effectively means he left for no fee, at least we got £300,000 for the snake (now i do get the hate-in for him) It enabled Tom to get a better deal when he signed for another team, and why not - clubs think nothing of telling players that their contract won't be renewed at the end of a season. As a player in the lower leagues (at the time) I quite understand Locks putting himself first with regards to some financial security.

Would be a low release clause or wouldn't sign. The issue was the 5h1thousery with the fee being known and the PR by the 82ers regarding the transfer. Lockyer walked away with no such agreement, walked away for nothing, zero, zilch. Would a similar low release fee have wound people up? Yes. Can anyone confirm if he had a contract with Charlton saying if they went down he could leave? The difference is that he left saying 'thank you'

No loyalty in football? Contracts not worth the paper they are written on these days? Etc, etc….
Yet players still get hammered when they fulfill the contract to the letter and give 100% to the cause.

Luton v Cov final. Happy with that. Two proper clubs who’ve seen some bad times. One will be in the Prem. Hope it’s Luton for Locks and so that all prem fans can experience ‘that’ entrance to an away end, but also would be happy for Cov too.

Two clubs who were in crisis just a few years ago. Coventry homeless and broke with a stadium owned by others, in League 1, playing games at Northampton. Luton in the Conference for five years, in League 2 for five years, crumbling wreck of a stadium.
Where did it all go right?

Boro 0- 1 Coventry. Deserved lead atm. Both of their games have been a borefest With Middlesbrough confined to the championship probably we won't be able to ask if Josh could come down again for next season on loan again.

The teds must be wondering why these clubs are coming up from L1 and bypassing them while they continue to blow their millions every year

I'm going to have a little wager on Tom scoring in the Final.

Mark Robins has built Coventry all the way though from L2 being allowed time and patience each season. Even when they were bottom of the champ for near on 2 months and on a awful run of form this season Cov didn't sack him and that has been rewarded.
Luton again had some consistency with Jones and were able to pick up decent L1 players on the verge of the champ and develop them. Rob Edwards was a shrewed appointment after Jones left for Southampton and they have been consistently good all year.

The same people moaning about Tom not signing a new contract are probably the same people on here slagging him off week after week for not being good enough

When was Rob Edwards appointed by Forest Green Rovers? Close season 2021. That's what I thought. So straight after we were relegated with 38 points. Having earned none in the last half dozen games...
