Rory Gafney seemed to be able to score from almost anywhere on the pitch whilst on loan, then couldn't hit a barn door with a bango when he signed, although neither could Payne nor Nichols and neither of them joined us on loan. the brace against Leyton orient I thought we had found a gem. So strange how loan players can quickly deceive when signed on permanent. Who was the CB under DC who was quality on loan and disappointed permanently? Went to Mansfield after.

Sweeney but he was on loan both times

Chris Lines and John-Joe O'Toole are the players that spring to mind as having successful permanent spells after being on loan.
Unlike some other loanees such as Sweeney and Gaffney, we've seen a full season from Connor Taylor and we've seen him stand out in a good, successful squad, which the same can't be said for McCormick.
He's also younger than most loanees we've signed at 21, so a lot of time for him to develop further.
I'm confident he'll do well.

I recall Justin Channing was too, great on loan under Big Mal but didn't recreate that when he signed permanently. Are you sure he came in on loan? Thought he came in as a transfer. Three came in from QPR at the same time; Tilson and Waddock were permanent signings, £370k and £100k respectively. Channing was initially a loan but that expired just before the Villa Cup game. He then signed for £275k.

Stevenage beating off Barnsley, Port Vale, Cambridge & Cheltenham to this guy according to reports. Starting think they might actually give League One a good go…

Why would he drop down to that level?

Wonder what the hold up is with Teo’s pending arrival?

Definitely need to bolster the midfield now , hopefully we’ve got a player or two lined up to come in . A playmaker & a water carrier needed.

When you considering the pure numbers we have when we only usually use 2-3 midfielders a game: Grant, Rossiter, Ward, Finley, Evans, Teo (pending), Luke McCormick. I appreciate we have injury’s but there isn’t purely enough space to be signing two more CMs, maybe one more?

Rossiter is injured for god knows how long and Grant never seems to be fit .

Think we definitely need another midfielder with some bite. It's nice having some exciting and creative forwards when we have the ball. But, we need to make sure we are effective in winning the ball back, when out of possession, to maximise their opportunities to score and create.

Wonder what the hold up is with Teo’s pending arrival? wonder if all this talk of new investment could mean looking to pay and bring in higher quality, if EFL approval is given, be bad timing for the lad as he’s looked ace in friendlies.
