Also is it wise to spend over £200,000 on a 30 year old? There will be no "sell on" value in him, unlike a player U25 who may improve and be worth a fee. It's almost like buying a player to gain success. If we spend that much on him, it will probably mean Collins is on his way and he's going to be his replacement. Should leave money to invest in a younger player with potential as well. May's worth around £200K it's hardly mega bucks when we really wasted a similar sum on McCormick last season, if May scores 20 goals and Collins/Brown a similar then return that's a top 6 finish/potential promotion, so a good return for the investment.

Since Pompey and Vale are snapping up everybody, I’m suspicious of any potential transfer where neither are mentioned….there must be something wrong with him!!!! Pompey must have a full squad by now? PV just mopping up the freebies.

weary of this one. sure hes a decent player but hes 30 and weve got Marquis who has scored more consistently in L1 and for longer. Collins and Brown have double figures L1 goals in them.
Get a younger lad in.

No, the club really do want to make it to the championship and the only way they are going to do that is to invest in the team and keep our best talent. Wael and JB are going for it and have a budget for it.

Maybe behind the scenes, Wael knows where we are likely to be in a few years off the pitch so is able to plan and open the purse strings a bit more. I guess the next few signings will support that or not. If we keep Collins and add another couple of key players it will give us an indication either way.

You sense like us Wael knows he might never get a better chance to at least make the top 6 this season, with Wigan and, potentially Reading, suffering points deductions and none of promoted clubs looking particularly strong.
Next season we could have none of the relegated Championship clubs starting with points deductions and Wrexham also joining us in L1 and even Charlton might have sorted out their ownership issues.
Wael also needs to fill that nice new stand regularly!

We would probably have to pay £250,00 for him, but if we got in the play offs or even better got promoted we would get the money back perhaps 20 times over. So I suppose it is a case of whether the club want to spin the wheel and take the gamble on him. i like him he is quick and a typical goal poacher.

Would be a cracking signing if we can pull it off.
We'd surely have one of the best attacks in L1 if his signs.
Okay, due to his age, there might not be much sell on value when he leaves, but when do you get the chance to sign a L1 striker who has scored 48 goals in 99 appearances over the past 2 seasons for £300k?
His goals could easily be the difference between a mid table or top 6 finish.

Keep Collins and Marquis, sign Brown and May and we will have some heads looking our way. Especially as we seem to be dealing with the poor/inexperienced backline issue of last season.
Not sure anyone would have expected Collins, Brown and May in the same mid-table L1 team for 2023/24!!

HMS P**s the league preparing to set sail Funny thing is I have seen on about five or maybe more other Club forums the same from their Fans - Shrewsbury / Port Vale / Burton / Oxford all thinking they are assembling a top six squad. Portsmouth fans thinking the League is over already - with their eight signings so far. My goodness this season is going to be a roller coaster !

Some signal of intent it would be if we sign a 30yo striker who scored 20 times in our league last season. But seems more likely he (or his agent) is just using us to inflate his value elsewhere. Surely a player like him would choose Derby or Charlton over us.. or even Gillingham if they are throwing money around and that is closer to home for him? Wasn't he linked with Ryan Reynolds FC at some point too?

Alfie May G20 A3 Aaron Collins G16 A12 Jevani Brown G12 A9 John Marquis G11 A3 That's ~60 goals right there without including the midfield or defence chipping in, no excuses if we can't score enough next season now should this happen.

I'm not saying it wouldn't be a terrific signing.. but I will only believe it when I see some contrived "May Day" type tweet from our twitter admin
