Sounds like it may(!) almost be a done deal:
"They could also be followed by Cheltenham Town’s Alfie May, with positive talks said to have been conducted between both League One clubs and the player's representative over the prospect of the 30-year-old moving to the Mem. Although the biggest hurdle could be agreeing a transfer fee that both satisfies the Robins and is financially viable for the Gas"

Worth noting that Cheltenham have an option to extend the contract, which in theory puts him with 2 years left.
I asked a Cheltenham fan who said they'd be livid with £250k and "£375k is more realistic for what is the top scorer in L1 over the last 2 years"

Charlton Athletic journalist on May: Certainly don't think #cafc out of the mix to sign Cheltenham's Alfie May. That's not to say it's definitely going to happen, but seems a lot more likely than before.
I can see this being chase, chase, chase and we get let down last minute. Either get the deal done early or move onto other targets IMO.

I'm guessing we've only now entered into talks as Charlton can't complete the deal and he doesn't fancy dropping into L2 with Gillingham.

I don't think this will drag on too long to be honest. I think that the post I mentioned about a Charlton fan claming we along with Gills offered a 3 years contract and Charlton 2 years may have been pretty close to the truth and it means that offers been made and the player he is now weighing up the options. Yes Gills are his hometown club and Charlton are a bigger club but for me the thing that may swing it in our favour is an enthusiastic Joey selling the vision and the dream to him rather than what Holden and Harris have said to him 🤞🤞

Rovers should pay the 250,000 fee for Alfie May to show us fans that the club is serious about wanting promotion. A quality striker is well worth the bargain fee.

We should only pay a decent fee for May if we are serious about a promotion challenge. If we just want to consolidate then I would rather us take a punt elsewhere as we won't make a profit on him and would probably even lose money at 30.

Probably be the end of Ryan Loft if we do get May?
I'd keep Marquis over him as we need a big man from time to time.

Fox in the box striker is one thing we don’t have, he’d been an excellent addition to the ranks.
