Some fans need hoisting out of the stand for not having the brains to understand the multiball system and lobbing a ball back onto the pitch. Could cost a goal next time.

Todays match only emphasised the need for a striker who plays on the last man and plays in the 18yard box. Collins is way off the pace at the moment and think Sinclair is better coming off the bench rather than starting. On the positive jack hunt looks like he will be a real attacking asset, he was getting into positions in field 1st half which was leaving space for Thomas. One thing that really annoys me is our set pieces, all this flaffing about playing it short. The amount of times the ball doesn’t ever get into the box is criminal. Anyhow hopefully things come together over the next few weeks. Jack hunt was the main positive today. For his debut first half especially he was outstanding. The best attacking display we've seen from a full back in years. Was creating so much space for himself and thomas in that first half. He put in some brilliant balls for our non existent strikers. Really excited to see how he develops with Thomas down that wing. One thing to pick up on from JB interview after the game was the slow play. I noticed the ball was very slow along the ground today slowing down our attacks. Wasn't until his interview I realised that it was the dry pitch. Sorry if already mentioned but the sprinkler system was broke so pitch was dry as a bone Great, for away games, clubs will be putting covers on the pitch and using hot air driers for a Rovers visit.

Brighton 78% possession against West Ham, lost 3-1. Gas 70% possession, we know the result. Wycombe deserved the win, fought for every ball & when they lost it - fought to get it back. No, they weren't pretty to watch, but the 3 points are in their bag. While we applaud the attempt to play the "beautiful game - results define a season. The best teams adapt to their opponents. Gas didn't against Cambridge, didn't against Wycombe. If this is a learning curve, lesson should be well and truly learnt. UTG.

Just got back.. Another fab day seeing some of you on the road... It's amazing how many pubs aren't open early doors, or have fallen by the wayside only to be picked up by cafés serving the juice of the apple from North St or further afield !? Or any tipple you prefer... Bristol Lager still makes me chuckle! Great again bumping into some of you reprobates! Do the eye thingy again....! Anyhoos, onto less important matters.. If JAB was a cat, he's used up 2 of his 9 lives this season... He farts about with the defence personnel (why no CT?) and the unit are culpable for our downfall, even though there were some good individual performances, they let themselves down for conceding two goals - it should have been more - but in truth we done no where near enough to win the match. JAB says they're the most talented he's ever managed (he would say that), and the best is yet to come from goalscorer Vale and the squad (he would say that), and maybe he is correct, but the Achilles heel of playing stalwart third division physical, non compromising, direct football clubs with minimal resources and much smaller attendances, corporate hospitality and pr profile he again is left wanting.....I say bring back Mangan (I would say that!). Jev Brown hit outside of post. He was awarded m o m ..... personally I thought Hunt had the best game. Aaron dithered again. Luke was being doubled up on with little support until Crama/Evans arrived on his side, because he switched a few times. Ok, Wilson looking good, he could ping a ball behind Wyscum defence, but it just wasn't quite accurate enough, very decent trys though. And Hunt was very decent in wing play. Friend I liked first half when we were playing well, a big physical unit that 'made' himself known too well with dishing out a dead leg too far by yellow. But I thought faded second half and rightly subbed. A couple of average crosses. Brings us on to Fins.... just not for me atm. Has he lost his mojo? Much like Ward? We were struggling with our mid in second half, the subs breathed a bit of fresh air and we scored with several players bearing down on goal, first time I'm saying it, well done Vale! (don't normally cheer on Port Vale) Could have scored v Charlton, but away you go.... first league goal v Wycombe. So we go back to the training ground to practice how to play on pitches that haven't been watered. Shame it wasn't evening kick off - it p!ssed down - and thundery lightning - perhaps after 2-0 down it would've been our turn to call the match off and chin a few of them in the car park? But you know what? I don't think it would matter. We just aren't slick enough ATM and got what we deserved....zilch. Still, nice cider though..... UptheGas!

Sorry haven’t ready any of the thread , too painful! But were hoole and Gordon injured or rested? Friend for me was a liability. Assume it was his foul for the first goal? Grant is not improving things either at LB. Hunt was better and looked good going forward but he cost us the game with that daft run into the packed middle of the pitch! Didn’t he watch the England WC final?!
Positives. Brown caused loads of problems and was unlucky nothing quite came off. Sinclair was excellent first half. Evans needs to be on the pitch more. Got us going when he came on. Vale will be a good player for us I think. Nothing going for Collins and Marquis, surely that will change?!
We need a striker. Stop trying to score the best team goal ever!
We were well and truly Wycombe’d. Poor that Joey and the players haven’t learnt from last season.

Was massively disappointing yesterday. Was really looking forward to it and was let down.
Stand on the Thatchers and can hear Collins being singled out. I don't think he deserves that.
First time in a while I have been massively angered by an opposition player. Felt like running onto the pitch at the end and punching Low. Just felt it, would never do something like that as I know the difference between right and wrong. Unlike some twat in the Thatchers that threw a bottle of coke. Nice one, we will get a fine for that.
From a game perspective, very disappointing to have first shot on target at the 80 odd minute mark. That is embarrassing at home.
Controversially, I thought Marquis should have started and Sinclair should be an impact sub.
Thomas runs around lots but he also loses the ball lots, I'm not sure I rate him right now.
We just didn't play well yesterday and it has kinda spoilt my bank holiday weekend.
We know that JB takes games in 10 game chunks, so let's revisit this after the 20 game mark.
I hate JB the person, but believe in JB the manager. I think we can dominate possession and win games. As long as we don't make silly mistakes. We do need someone who knows where the net is before the transfer window closes. Obviously, JCH would be a fantastic addition and he would've had a hat trick yesterday with the amount of balls being played into the box (we just didn't have anyone with any killer instinct in the box for most of the game yesterday). However, I would take a goal poaching kid from an academy as I do believe that JB the manager will be able to coach that kid into putting the ball into the back of the net.
One thing that JB mentioned in his interview was 12-18 month project, so sounds like we are not going for it this season.

Not sure the Ref knows much about it either. Talking of which, he was a cracker wasn't he eh? Unfortunately I can see a report going in about the bottles being lobbed at Wycombe Players from the Thatchers End.

Says it all really, 100% conversion rate. 👍 More seriously though, one thing I have noticed over the years is that we tend to need three on target to score a goal, and three shots to get one on target. 12 shots should have resulted in 4 on target. Need to get some shooting practice.

I bet I was in the majority in thinking that following that passage of play and the free kick being given it was inevitable that a goal would result. Once the goal went in it was going to be a struggle against Wycombe’s deep flat back 5. Horrible team that I could never pay to watch on a regular basis.

Frustrating game. I don't think we were as bad as some are making out.
For 20 minutes we were completely dominant and it just looked a matter of time before we took the lead. Had we gone in front I honestly think we'd have gone on to win by 3 or 4.
Unfortunately we give away a soft goal which allowed Wycombe to do what they do best, sit back and make it very difficult for the opposition to create clear chances.
I still think if we'd had JCH up front yesterday we'd have won the game. We put enough balls in the box but none of our players seem to have the strikers instinct to be in the right place at the right time.
The chances we did have were wasted. Brown should have at least hit the target in the first half when played in by Collins. Collins missed a decent chance at the near post in the second half, and I'm still not sure how Crama didn't score from 8 yards out. Oh, and we were denied a blatant penalty.
I really like the look of Hunt. Friend was okay considering it was his first game and he missed most of pre season injured.
It was Ward who lost the ball and then fouled their guy for the first goal. I'd be tempted to start Bogarde and Woods next week.
Thomas was lively again and Sinclair had an excellent first half.
If we can sign JCH I still think we can have a really good season and I'm usually a pessimist.

Really frustrating match, we just never got going. We're crying out for a midfielder who will drive forward and draw the opposition out, passing needs to a lit quicker too.
Have to say though with a decent ref we could've got a result. It was a definite foul on Bogarde before their 2nd goal and that was a stonewall penalty at the end, anywhere else on the field that's a free kick and booking.
Think it's worth remembering there are 12 new signings and it'll take time for them to gel as a unit. Both new fullbacks looked decent yesterday, I'm confident that if we can bring in that final piece up top we'll be fine but there'll be a few more games like this until it starts to click.

With the additional time being played, suspensions and hopefully a cup run, we are going to need a big squad.
I can imagine some of the early pacesetters may run out of steam, as it will be a long season.
It is a work in progress, but we have a very good squad and you get a sense that with a bit more of a settled side and players learning to know how eachother plays,we will get more wins and move the ball quicker, get attuned to the forwards runs and play more attractive football.
A week on the training pitch will be a big help.
The last few promotion runs have been based on stepping up a few gears from February onwards - Trolls, DC and Joey. Fingers crossed!

Regardless of the ratio, you tend to contribute more posts to a losing thread than you do to a winning one. You made me look. I posted on the Charlton thread, but at 06:20 on the day of the match. Which is a bit strange then I remembered I was travelling that day. A bit strange though, people tracking my posts? I suspect it's more to do with my criticism of Barton than anything else. Strange none the less.
