Not surprised about Evans, right in front of us late on he took one hell of cruncher which was a full tangle of legs, Wigan lad took everything ball and man. Lucky as it could’ve been a lot more serious. Yet 4/5 times today, mainly second half, the ref punished our clean ball winning tackles in the middle of the park when we were set to break away.
JB was doing his nut every single time. Rightly so.

Home early after negotiating the car park better for once .... What a cracking game ... Must admit I totally got that wrong at 2pm when i saw the team... Anyway here are our marks ... Cox - 7 ... Pretty faultless - good punching under pressure from the gorilla Wyke, distribution a different class from the midweek keeper. Vale - 7 Very good full debut and put in an excellent shift at LB Taylor - 7 Won most things in the air and scrapped hard - distribution getting better Grant - 8 Excellent at CB - Distribution brilliant and fought really well in the air - Would cement him in there now. Hunt - 9 - Love this guy!! Quality throughout and a goal + an assist to Big John. Finley - 8.5 I have been his biggest critic but today he was outstanding - led by example - terrific in the tackle and had a few shots at goal as well. Evans - 7 - Got kicked throughout but another really good hardworking display and drove us forward Bogarde - 7 Seems to take some time to settle into games but some nice touches and worked hard Thomas - 8 Excellent performance capped with a nice goal Collins - 7 Worked hard - created chances and got a deserved goal Big John - 7 Worked hard - got pushed and shoved and a cracking header for his goal Subs - Collective 6 - No one really stood out but did enough to see out the game Joe Barton - 7 Well I thought he had got the selection wrong but what do i know ? Josh Grant at CB and Harvey Vale at LB was inspired - Clearly told the boys to shoot more this week and it paid off. Referee Team - 5 - Very poor at times and some of his decision making will have made the assessor weep!! Fans- Strong 7 - Noisey at times and supported well - Loyalty rewarded today Wigan - 5 - Looked really good in the warm up - really good. I thought we would struggle against Wyke + Aasgaard but wasn't he case. So a thoroughly enjoyable game - is this the sign of things to come - we shall see Certainly taught me that we have more strength in depth than I thought Have a great weekend everyone. Thanks for thst. Have just put the player ratings thread up, please could you transfer your scores to that thread. I will be doing the ratings thread from now on so there will always be a three hour delay in me posting the thread as I have a hundred mile journey home from the Mem. Many thanks

Latics fans on there forum in meltdown, apparently we are a bang average team and they today' played in such a way that we looked like Brazil. I sense true sour grapes' no praise or respect whatsoever! Ah, the usual arrogance from clubs who are in our division as a punishment for cheating in the division above. Massive club apart from on pay day it seems

That was the best home performance I’ve seen in ages and in terms of the quality of the football, we haven’t seen that since Holloway. I would say to any young rovers fans, when your dad or your brother or uncle went on about that era - behold, you just saw a rovers team about the same standard 👍 I don't think so, but glad some people are enjoying the football. Our play in the first 30 was pedestrian, predictable and littered with mistakes. We have some fantastic players and in flashes we really turn it on and are unplayable.

What a day. First half was cracking entertainment but we were a little sloppy giving the ball away. Looked great when we got it together. 2nd half we completely dominated and stopped the silly mistake. Had to fight some very inconsistent decisions from the ref too. Stopped for a cheeky nandos and now regretting it as sat on a closed m4 for hours.

Fantastic result. And goalscorer wise fantastic too - will do Collind and Marquis' confidence the world of good.

I think our keeper should do better with their goal, has to be stronger imo. Luke Thomas was outstanding today, his dummy and finish was quality and also the ball in for the second goal. Need to rattle up a few more wins Utg

I'm amazed anybody is posting anything negative tonight on the match thread, after the rubbish we've had to suffer in L1 since DC lost his way.

What a fantastic game, and I thought a good atmosphere, the lads looked controlled, measured as well as determined and a long overdue victory was won. Listening around me it appears Joey has that something that makes people enjoy going, even on our run of winless home games there’s a anticipation that we’ve got something special building.
So, South Stand and team? Definite progress on both fronts! 👏🏾

Massive club apart from on pay day it seems I just love this kind of stuff. I can remember when they were non league, and Larry Lloyd managing them for a while. Then Dave Whelan pumps money in and hey presto! they're big time Charlies. I used to liaise with a guy who was a Wigan fan and he used to say "Whelan will have to get the cheque book out." Well, Whelan ran out of cash and they are on the slide. Get over it guys.

But we must keep producing performances like today home and away.

Not going to read the whole thread in case anyone has said anything negative, because we were absolutely magnificent today and any one of the 11 starters could have been MOTM. Glorious. UTFG 💙🥂 Barely got a mention on another forum....

I don't agree with everything JB does, but like him I always had faith Finley and Evans were still worth their spots in and around the eleven.
Both players [along with the other 9+subs] were fantastic today.

Personally thought we were nothing less than excellent from the first whistle. Shows how high our standards are these if one or two blips in the first half are the main concerns. To a man, fantastic back to front.
