Can get good players in for sure. But we are so easy to pick off.

I really hoped after the Wigan game that he’d turned the corner tactically , we hardly played any slow paced possession football in that game , went more direct with higher tempo and I could actually see what we were capable of. Wasn’t there yesterday but the stats and reports on here suggest it was another game where we seemed to put possession as a priority over actually trying to win the game. There are other problems of course discipline, poor defending etc but if we go at sides get defenders running back towards their own goal we’ll cause problems for any side in this division. We just rarely seem to do that , even the poorest sides in this division will have a field day v a team that plays a slow paced possession game building from the back as we’ve seen all season.
I really fear for us Tuesday if we think it’ll work v Stevenage I think it’ll end up something like 70% possession to us but lose by a couple of goals.

I think that’s maybe a bit harsh The ‘team’ he developed in League 2 was outstanding at the end of the season, possibly the best I’ve seen in quarters The question is, can he do it at a higher level? Juries out UTG

You don’t go up because of one player who played half a season The players are playing for him, I don’t doubt that. Question that needs to be asked is, are we doing ok stability wise coming back to League 1, do we need patience, or should this squad be doing better, would be doing better under another manager? It’s a tough call, my worry is that the club are walking blindly again and have no plan B!! UTG

Maybe it's the coaching?
For instance..... yesterday KramervKramer played a delicious 1-2 and got in their box but the chance went astray.....so, why can't we coach more of our wb's to just fine tune their final delivery when they've done the hard work?
Hoole could be the next Scott Murray-esque as he's agile and quick, but looks lost with his final delivery....
Use and exploit the flanks with pace in attack. Stop block the crosses and shots in defence. Keep the ball rolling in midfield...
Simples!

After everything Barton said about Garner he’s basically had us playing a very similar strategy other than the second half of his first full season.

The more worrying concern is the amount of injuries the players are getting in training. Is Joey pushing them too hard hence the injuries, I remember the interview where he mentioned the fitness and training schedule at Burnley its ok having a superfit team but at what cost

Wasn’t that the BG ethos 🤔 What if it was? Lots of water under the bridge since then. And dropped points as well !! It’s interesting to see so many wanting to crucify BG at any opportunity, but support JB who’s trying to play the same style of football 🤷♂️ For the record I’m neither pro BG or anti JB !

To be fair, JB has made several comments about how he asks the players to watch the best players in the world and copy them, he’s made several comments about giving up if he has to manage in league 1.
He has the football snobbery attitude of a premiership fan. A Man U fan from Plymouth….”Oh, you don’t watch that league 1 rubbish do you?”
The only time in my living memory we got out of league 1 (what was div 3) we played direct football. The other time we were really high in league 1 recently we played even more direct, negative football.
I love the idea of what he’s doing but we may find out eventually that to succeed in this league you do need some no nonsense defended and also some big, fast strikers who can push their way through.
It’s exactly what keeps defeating us. We just can’t cope with pace and power at the back and we just bounce off their defence like flies or have a human wall of defenders to contend with.
We are 2 strikers and a centre back away. A tweak to this I am certain would see us pulverise teams.

But the question is after, what is it, 3 or 4 major recruitment rounds, why has he not recruited for this style? I don't believe he believes in it.

I got told on another thread I had a dinosaur view of how football should be played today……….I also remember us in the todays Championship playing direct football to get into it.
I look at Wycombe now who have parachute payments for 3/4 years from the championship and that’s how Ainsworth took them up. Wycombe have a better ground than us, better catchment area for players, but our fans (some) demand we can only go up playing Pep football.
I was chatting to a prominent poster on this forum, we rarely agree on stuff but we are both in agreement on one thing, we both taking winning football over how it’s played. If we had gone direct hoof ball at Cambridge, Peterborough, Oxford and Saturday just gone, got results, sat in top 10, I’d be over the moon.
