Completely missed the point there. It allows us to ensure facilities are as expected (because these are designed for a rugby club not an elite football club in the 21st century) and removes the reliance on the West Stand leaving us free to do whatever we want with that in the future. The existing changing rooms can be converted into offices, bars, concessions, whatever you like. If we were just spending money for the sake of it then would we really have just built a new stand with pillars? If the South Stand is anything to go by the whole development will be a bit of a bodge job not a well thought out development. Anything is better than what we presently have but fans are already getting carried away with their vision of what will be built. The south stand plan predates the new owners and the decision to give up on the fruity so isn’t that relevant Let’s wait to see the plans before assuming it’ll be great and/or crap!

Yes as regard to the car park , you either build up or build down to compensate for any lost space . Up would obv seem the most logical , and doesn't have to
be a five storey high thing ( not that we'd get approval anyway ).
I think as far as dev the mem is concerned , we a dont want to miss a trick and end up with a quick fix look. The east stand has the best potential but needs to be razed
and re built. As for the cricket pavillio west stand , dissapointed thats staying , its a f-ing eyesore. The thatchers end still remains a unknown , and something exciting
could take it's place . Lets see the plans then debate. Btw how many of you would put up with x amount of seasons away , if we were to get a spanking new state of the
art rededvelopment at the mem . Heaven forbid AG or Swindon , another thread for another day perhaps?
AG now holds rugby most alternative weekends, Swindon a complete non starter for most fans. As far as a multistorey car park, how would that ever get through planning given the South Stand saga. Looking at alternative parking/nearby park & ride as to be a better option. Yes ,of course forgot about the rugby. Regards the car park , if the stand was to be pushed back , we may only be looking at another level on top, two max , not exactly a skyscraper.

11 pages of guesswork. It's great that he has spoken, even if the timing and content is completely random. So, what should happen rather than just words-bear in mind we've had words for 30 years+. Is a plan, drawn out with imagery and drawings. A twitter release by an individual rather than through the club account is also weird. BRFC should be driving footfall through its media to create sales opportunities and gather members. It just feels like back of fag packet stuff which is all we've ever had. I think it's good that staying at the Mem is confirmed. Not concerned about 'extra revenue' and unsure why that's even a point to discuss tbh. Looking forward to seeing the detail, if there is any. I’m not sure the timing is random. The manager had been sacked and BBC asked for an interview which he was happy to do, content depends on the questions doesn’t it? Agree RE club media but the media manager got the boot a few weeks back so the department is understaffed hence the recent lack of comms

Should have made this decision from the start instead of the fruit and nut job. Might have been finished by now if they’d done that. The new owners only arrived this August! They have looked at the proposed fm deal and it does not make financial sense. Hence they have binned the deal. Tbf that’s exactly what Wael did with the proposed UWE deal

The owners mentioned raising finance for the next stage of redevelopment and so I'm guessing the idea is for a proper East Stand.

If we are redeveloping the ground.. surely the east stand would be the first to go, as Dude said you could build something much bigger out into the car park. I would HOPE the plans are to build something modern, with all the facilities built in, club shop, impressive concourse, move the changing rooms across. Could you get 8-10k seats down one side? I don't see the benefit of having the car park so big personally, should be just big enough for a few coaches and disabled access. I watch Spurs fairly regularly, can guarantee most fans use public transport or walk to the ground. Yes as regard to the car park , you either build up or build down to compensate for any lost space . Up would obv seem the most logical , and doesn't have to

I look forward to seeing the plans for the Mem site. The Mems pitch is significantly lower than the carpark, there is a lot of concrete that needs shifting but you could easily build something quite special down that side of the pitch if it is levelled to the pitch, build up, backwards and full length of the pitch. Depends how deep Hussein pockets are. If we are going to stay at the Mem, let's just do it properly. State of the art, not a "cheap" that will do approach. Something quite aesthetic might actually win over the locals.

When the East stand has its two sides bolted on , could we give a few sections of that ( according to numbers) to away fans and keep the south stand purely for home fans ? Would be good to have two ends just for Gasheads and atmosphere I reckon.

Should have started rebuilding the mem bit by bit 20+ years ago. Club failed . Instead went with pie in the sky pkans that always fell flat and let fans down big time. The club should rebuild the mem but should also be looking to find a new stadium site they can move to in the future. The Mem is good for a yoyo championship league one/two side. Not for a team looking to be a top end championship club. Easy to say that now but where was the money going to come from when neither Dunford or Higgs had access to the required finance? Just a pity Wael didn't revert back to the student accommodation funded stadium plan when the UWE became unviable, instead of chasing the KM/SH FM plan which was probably never viable. Did every other club have mega rich owners that built new stands or stadia during our former owners tenure in charge ? No they didnt. The profit from any one of the million pound player sales could have contributed massively to a south stand being built.

I haven't read through the whole thread but it sounded to me like the plan was to just develop the open terrace either side of the East Stand, and if that's the case, you can only imagine they will be similar to the South Stand.
My feeling is the North end will be a copy of the South stand with the current East and West stands staying as they are.
I might be wrong but but that's what it sounded like to me.
They're expecting the capicity to eventaully be 16-17k, which is obviously a significant improvement on 9 or 10k, but a bit of a downgrade on a new 20+k all seater stadium we were hoping for.
Better than nothing but I'm concerned it will still look very hotchpotch.

Yes, disappointed that it isn’t going to be a completely new stand on the East side and hope therefore that it’s going to be a proper blended in extension on either end of the current stand.

My "guess" is.... The East stand will (like the Dolman stand at 82) have seating extended sideways and downwards. The roof will then be extended.
This means the current stand can continue to be used for the maximum time. The away fans will all go in the south stand so allows the south east end to be developed without to much disruption. Finished Stand capacity probably 5-6000.
Once completed the stadium (without the North terrace) will be about 10-11,000 .
The North terrace can then be rebuilt as safe standing with an upper tier of seating.Probably 6000 in total.
So theres your 16-17000 stadium. Only likely change to the west stand would be extend it in either direction ( more boxes ) though that will likely not increase crowd numbers. Seating may replace the standing. The current west stand seating(and facilities) may get changed to host media etc. The roof may get changed for a centrally realigned tv gantry.

Bloody hell there are some right moaners on here. Our new owner comes out and gives an excellent interview on their plans to develop the Mem. Architects have been engaged and they are going to develop the east side next. Even if the existing stand stays in place it can be extended on both sides and will be unrecognisable . My thoughts are that the roof will be the same height on both sides and the seating will be brought down to pitch level .An additional section of roof for the existing stand could be easily supported by the new structures on both sides. All this work can take place whilst retaining the old east stand seats and hospitality areas for games during the season. Anyway calling something tinpot before they have shown you the plans is simply stupid, I suggest you give them a chance, you might well be surprised, after all they only came in three months ago. The man even mentioned safe standing which many have called for and many in the thatchers will no doubt be delighted to hear that. Give them a fair crack of the whip I say, they clearly mean business. Agree that is what it sounds like, but who is going to want seats on east terrace when it rains? The current stairs to the east stand are in the way as well. Can't wait to see plans.

The new owner mentioned something about loans with repayments covered by increased revenue. As the club is currently losing money, surely all the increased revenue would do is reduces the losses, with interest on the loans making the financial situation worse?

The profit from any one of the million pound player sales could have contributed massively to a south stand being built. I have often wondered why the south end wasn't developed properly with some of the money from the sale of the likes of Barry Hales, Jason Roberts, Nathan Ellington etc. surely if we were looking to grow and improve the business by doing this the bank would be more supportive. If it's costing 2m now how much would have been 20 years ago? We would probably had money left over from one of those transfers and the extra income in that 20 years could have made a big difference.

The correct answer is obviously the bottom one. It's not the ideal solution but it's better than nothing.

Discussing the future of The Memorial Stadium is positive. The way to make this happen is for the fan base to be more involved in influencing the key decision makers. In the excitement and interest of the managerial situation and victory yesterday a MAJOR and LONG-TERM issue can so easily be forgotten. The revised South Stand application NEEDS your support. JUST DO IT. TODAY. The highly negative anti-stadium protest group are becoming increasingly active. This weekend is when they have been encouraged to send in their objections. In the last 24 hours they have sent in many letters opposing the revised South Stand Application. This is likely to continue. They appear to be claiming that they are NEIGHBOURS. Hoping that this will carry more weight. Devious startegy. Total numbers of letters of support and letters of objection do have an influence on a "tightly balanced decision". Do you or do you not want the development of The Memorial Stadium to occur? If you do then make your point to BCC. It would be really helpful if many more letters of support were sent in over the next two days. pa.bristol.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=S1YCEEDNHVV00If you commented on the previous application that does not mean you or others in your family cannot comment on the revised South Stand application.
