I don’t mind student accommodation being incorporated into the stadium design - as long as it only accommodates one student.

If true would surely have to be a complete demo and full rebuild? That makes the most sense, get the old stadium plans out of the filing cabinet and redevelop the whole ground not just one, or two at best, stands. Perhaps the poster saying we're leaving the Mem whilst it is rebuilt wsd on to something?

Just have to wait and see then won't you The only way there might be a grain of truth in it, not that we will ever in a million years build a six storey building on the site, is the old planning trick of going in with something outlandish, knowing it will be rejected, and then scaling back the application to show we've addressed the concerns of residents and going for a three storey building which is what we wanted in the first place. A six storey building isn’t gigantic in Football stadium terms. Look at Leyton Orients ground, the main stand is about 5 storeys tall and is probably a bit smaller than what Rovers are looking to build. Then at one end, they’ve got a 4 storey stand with 8 storey flats towering behind.

I take your point but just can't see it being granted pp. Of course being the East Stand it wouldn't tower over anyone's garden. So maybe I'm wrong. Again 😫

I’ve said on many of the development threads, the old plans with student accommodation is a sustainable form of passive income for the club - IF we fund it AND the rents go to the club. We all know it’s likely not to pan out like that but if the residential development can be used to get us a stadium in an area (most of us…) are happy with, it’s got to be worth it no?
We’ve got one shot at the area behind the East and North of the stadium and I’m glad the club are actually looking to monetise it - remember the start of this thread when we were arguing over it looking like Carlisles bodgejob!

Perhaps an opening gambit so they can then be seen to be compromising with the actual plans of 4 story’s?!

Plus student accommodation seems to be granted pp all across central Bristol, perhaps students tend to vote Green/Labour?

Personally I can't see any issues with the stand(s) including student accommodation just as long as the part we use looks more attractive than a Carlisle type bodge job.

For those wondering, this is the 2008 student accommodation financed scheme that obtained planning permission. The tallest part is seven storeys and was I believe a hotel. The design is right at the limit of what is possible at the site, without unacceptable light loss to the surrounding houses. The capacity was 18,500 - 18,000 with segregation.

Would be lovely if they made the mem actually look decent! Even if it ment we played elsewhere whilst the east and thatchers got done then reduced capacity season after whilst West was replaced.

Would student accommodation get a view of the pitch?

Would student accommodation get a view of the pitch? I'm going to study Sports Science and write a paper on the Gas, whilst watching from my 6th floor penthouse balcony.

I'm gonna try and convince my 14yr old that they should study in Bristol and every other Friday/Saturday/Sunday (bloody sky tv) is fathers day! I'll bring the Thatchers.

I really liked the design of this. The capacity would have suited us as well.

I really liked the design of this. The capacity would have suited us as well. I don't know if anything can be done to remove the pillars in the south stand. The design is a bit square for me. But that was 2008. I'm sure some amendments could be made to make it look prettier and blend in with the environment. It would be terrible if it ended up looking like something from 1970s. Will continue to wait until board decide to let the fans know what is going on.

Perhaps if the previous board had gone for pillars rather than the centiliver option it might have been more viable to build. It's pointless having a great looking design if it's never likely to be built. Looking at the SW corner it looks like an hospitality box, or similar, was planned in that corner, I wonder if something similar is planned in the SE corner, which explains the odd opening left in that corner.
