Why all the talk of us playing elsewhere in this day and age of saving the planet etc etc. The club has stated they will develop the east side first and then the North. It’s quite clear that gives us a reasonable capacity that will be more than adequate for our fan base. There is no way that we will get a great following if we relocate to Cheltenham, Swindon etc etc. Like it or not staying in Bristol would be the only guarantee of retaining our support and if that’s the case and we did decide we need to move there is only one sensible option.

Kingsholm would be a great temporary home with exceptional facilities for our level & 16k+ capacity. Relatively easy to get to - could be a problem with the EFL as the pitch is all weather 3G. That's not a "problem" that's a definite no?

Which is what? Playing at AG is out of the question given the Bears play there when City don't? If we do have to move out only Swindon and Cardiff are realistic grounds, whether we do or not is anybody's guess. I assume Dan Hargreaves could put this to bed by asking somebody at the club but he's too busy tweeting about England's game.

So is this all now official? - we're building the North and East stands simultaneously; - we're building student flats as part of - the above; - we're relocating during the build. I ask because the owners haven't said anything even remotely resembling any of this. Not sure about the rest but the plans presented to the residents definitely included six storey student flats - that much is 100% true.

What’s the capacity of the west stand and south stand combined? 5,500ish? Even if we did redevelop the north and east at the same time, I reckon we’d be better off just being at the ground with only season ticket holders and away fans for a season. If safe to do so of course. Twerton’s capacity is not much more and we’d only be getting 4-5k gates if we played in Swindon. Playing at Yeovil would be a better option I assume you live in Yeovil as for anyone in Bristol, Yeovil is a nightmare to get to. Pretty confident 9 times out of 10 you'd get to Walsall, Kidderminster or Oxford quicker; let alone the likes of Swindon, Newport, Cheltenham, Worcester Sixways etc

I guess that (logistically) one of the biggest problems rebuilding those stands whilst the rest of the stadium is being used is that the main access points for the whole site are behind the North stand and in the North East corner. Any works required beyond the area of the existing structures will compromise pedestrian access and might impact evacuation plans - which makes me wonder if they were/are looking at opening new access points using land owned by the club onto Strathmore Rd and Downend Rd - even just as a temporary measure during construction.

I think it would be absolute madness to develop the stadium in such a way that we need to relocate for a year. Season ticket sales are down as it is, by moving away we would risk losing more fans that could take years to get back.

But would they then return if we had a decent stadium and challenging for a Championship spot, given our home gates seem to fluctuate, although demolishing and rebuilding two new stands plus the flats sounds more like 2 years work not just a year?

Here we go again, the "Fruit Market LLP" reforming and back out on the road for what maybe for another 5 years. Any body mentioned maybe playing at Whaddon Road ? "time warp"

Why has moving out of our stadium suddenly become a hot topic …. What have I missed? Personally I can’t see it happening.

Our Chairman has stated we are developing the East stand first and then the North. All this relocation talk is from the “experts “ on here speculating as to what they will do. It’s obvious from a purely financial point of you that a move away would cost an absolute fortune, not only for the club but gasheads having to splash out money for travel costs etc etc. Furthermore if people think we could get 7-8k travelling 50 miles or so for home games are living in cloud cuckoo land. It’s not going to happen and does not need to. The two existing entrances to the ground could still be used and the car park although much reduced would be on the houses side of the site. A cursory glance at how are neighbours did it, shows how a massive stand far bigger than anything we will build can be built without moving elsewhere.

The west stand & south/s-w stands doesn't seem an issue for home fans, just the away end, so either access to that via the roads mentioned or via fencing off the far side of the main car park, as construction work on the new East Stand won't go as far as Trubshaw Close. Problem is how much income will the club lose with no hospitality income for 2(?) seasons whilst the East Stand is rebuilt v moving to, say, Swindon and using their facilities but with lower overall attendances?

My thoughts exactly, we all know with building projects they tend to overrun, so the amount of time away from the Mem could be financially disastrous. The first few games at say Swindon on a Saturday might be a novelty & draw a decent attendance, but as the season goes on, especially evening games are going to make it difficult for even the most devoted supporters. IMHO it would make more sense to develop the North stand first & when finished supporters would then be able to use the north & south stand whilst the east side of the ground is developed.

Same as all the rumours start, somebody posting something on social media, the fact the club haven't been quick to deny it does make you wonder if there might be something in it, as the work to completely rebuild two stands including building blocks of flats will take some doing with the ground in use for 2 or 3 seasons.

Purely cos it's fun to speculate:
They've moved family tickets to the south west stand which might imply the south stand could at some point be used as the new home end. I imagine they can start work on the north end with limited capacity as they are more or less building off the back of the terraces.
So I reckon!
Fan zone moves into the south car park with entrance on Alton road for the south stand being the home end. One of the main gates is the away fan entrance, once the new home end with fan zone is made then we switch back over the season after and linking north stand into the east stand. Job done

That's why it would be more economically feasible to build 2 stands as part of the same project.
If the North Terrace is going to be a simple stand, like the south in terms of having no additional hospitality boxes then I'd say it would make even more sense to build that first. All the additional seating would then more than cater for the loss of seating in the East.
If it's being build with a full concourse then when the East is redeveloped you could put a temporary hospitality area on a concourse minimising the loss of revenue from the East development.
Moving out of the Mem at £1M PA + a % of matchday revenue just doesn't make sense to build just one stand.

From the original flat plans it looked like the accommodation was on east and west, since the pitch isn't moving (slightly north and east) and the temporary south stand is now permanent it makes sense to build one massive north and east stand that incorporates what was in the original plans, only it's north and east stands not east and west stands.

What capacity do you all think we are looking at regarding the East stand?
