If anyone goes do tell us what the craic is. According to FB there were 2 meetings tonight one poorly attended at 5:30 about transport and then another one at 7 about the stadium plans.

I think the 2008 plans had 100 apartments but would accommodate 300 students, possibly something lost in translation? All the more reason to get the plans out as soon after the consultation as possible. There was a hotel in the old design as well I think. I assume 350 students means at least 350 bedrooms, as I can't imagine many first year students would be happy to share a bedroom. I doubt whatever was planned for the west/north corner won't now be built, whether that was the planned hotel or more of the student flats? Bedrooms, yes, but shared living facilities such as kitchen, living rooms and so on.

It still means 350 bedrooms have to be built along with 35+ kitchens and living rooms etc.

I’m all for using up that car park. Not necessary and the less vehicles on muller/gloucester road the better. Glad to hear my obsession with opening up all the street entrances hasn’t gone unheard! If Elliott is just for away fan and student traffic not match day traffic (poor doors?) then it should go easier with the locals I’d be up for having an east stand with student accommodation as big as you can get, then have a north stand for all the club related areas. A professionally separated SE away zone would be good as to keep both goal ends home fans only and not mess around with cordoning off seats. Then if it ever gets round to west stand (i know, i know) it’s just a case of extending the south stand further

I hope the plans are to move the dressing rooms and boxes over to the new sides of the ground.
To really grow the club and push it to the next level, players and sponsors need modern facilities as well as the fans.
I would love a club museum as well but that’s probably asking for too much.

I think that is the plan. All the mod cons on the ground floor and students/hotel above it. Which(!!) means when it’s done the west stand can be knocked down with not much disruption ;-). Museum can be in the club bar and superstore in the north stand

We've no idea whether the proposed student accommodation will form part of the stand(s) or will be built entirely separately, and so can then be sold off to investors.

But how are you expecting supporters to get to the ground if the car park is reduced significantly? A big chunk of those who park in the car park will be doing so because they need to park there. Not because they can’t be assed to get a bus or don’t fancy a walk. Many of them simply can’t go down this route for health reasons. That’s ignoring the fact public transport to the ground is abysmal as it is.

The club will have to make alternative parking arrangements, which will probably have to include some kind of park & ride, as there's also the issue of the 5,000+ increase in ground capacity to take into consideration as a % of those fans will also drive.

Yeah what topper says. The real estate is worth so much more than a park and ride.

When I attend I usually drive to Bristol but have used the train and then buses from the city centre to Gloucester Road, which are pretty regular.

Now you mentioned trains, i read that they are hoping to open the new Ashley Down station by the end of this year, which should be handy for fans using the Mem.

You’ll have to convince me that’s good because to me that isn’t.

The buses are great, it would be good if the 17 ran later for evening games but you can't knock the many routes going to the stadium. Ashley Down Station is a real game changer too, you could have shuttle trains going from temple meads to parkway.

I contacted the football club regarding the new east stand, they inform me that there are NO plans to move away from the Mem while building works are taking place.I did mention that the new east stand may have student apartments attached to it (which is the next phase of the re- development), interestingly there was no denial of this by the football club, and they went onto say that proposals were still under consultation before they would be made public. I have also heard that at least some of the stadium car park will be closed during building works.

Just because they're not running every 10 mins from every corner of Bristol and the surrounding areas doesn't mean they're 'abysmal', just means it takes a small amount of planning.
