I contacted the football club regarding the new east stand, they inform me that there are NO plans to move away from the Mem while building works are taking place.I did mention that the new east stand may have student apartments attached to it (which is the next phase of the re- development), interestingly there was no denial of this by the football club, and they went onto say that proposals were still under consultation before they would be made public. I have also heard that at least some of the stadium car park will be closed during building works. Well that is good news!

Good comms and PR www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/club-statement-residents-meetingsBristol Rovers Football Club was pleased to talk with our neighbours and local community during a series of residents meetings. Held at The Memorial Stadium on Monday 8 July and Monday 15 July, the Club welcomed homeowners and tenants from the surrounding area for a first-round conversation regarding the ambitious plans to invest in and redevelop the Stadium. Representatives from the Club engaged in productive dialogue with our neighbours, listened intently to feedback and assured those in attendance that an honest line of communication would remain open between all parties throughout the process. Hussain AlSaeed, Bristol Rovers Chairman, said: āHonesty and transparency with our supporters and neighbours is a critical aspect of this journey as we look to improve the infrastructure of the Memorial Stadium and our training ground. āWe are committed to developing our Stadium into a vibrant, welcoming ground for fans of all ages, backgrounds and walks of life, and significantly important to doing so is bringing those who live local to The Memorial Stadium on that journey with us. āI hope those in attendance during the meetings felt they were able to share their thoughts and opinions in an open conversation and understand that this round of meetings was a first step in an ongoing process. āI would like to thank everyone who came along to the meetings and I look forward to working closely with them in the future.ā Following this first-stage discussion with local residents, the Club will now undergo a consultation period with the council and other stakeholders through the pre-application process. A press conference will then be held in due course to showcase the planned developments at both The Memorial Stadium and The Quarters Training Facility.

Fair play to the club and our Chairman in the way they are going about bringing to fruition their plans for the Mem and training ground. Itās quite clear to me that if our new owners had been onboard at the start of the South stand development matters might have proved to be a lot smoother.

Can someone download the article by Bristol evening post just released online . It details student flats and seems to suggest 350 flats . Surely that can't be right ? Bristol Rovers consulting local residents about new plans to build student flats at the Mem The capacity of the ground could increase to 17,000 as part of upgrades to stands By Alex Seabrook - Local democracy reporter Bristol Rovers is consulting local residents about new plans to build student flats next to the Memorial Stadium. The club has chosen not to publicly reveal details about their plans at this stage, so it's unclear what exactly could be built. Two meetings have been held at the Mem with some residents and the club to discuss the plans. Rovers have promised to keep open āan honest line of communication between all parties throughout the processā. Only few details have been published by residents on social media so far, but the plans appear to include building 350 student beds in a six-storey building āon the side of the stadiumā. The east and north stands would also be upgraded, taking the capacity from 12,534 to about 17,000. A press conference will be held āin due courseā, to show the plans at both the Mem and The Quarters. With the regards to the training ground, an area of the site at Almondsbury was earmarked at the end of last year by South Gloucestershire Council to build around 70 homes. I would like to thank everyone who came along to the meetings and I look forward to working closely with them in the future.ā The club hasnāt submitted a planning application to Bristol City Council yet, but would need to do so before they started building the flats, in theory. However, last year the club began building a new south stand without first getting planning permission. Works on the South Stand caused controversy among people living nearby, who said they hadnāt been adequately consulted about the plans, and criticised Rovers for a lack of transparency. Permission was later granted by councillors retrospectively in November. Rovers had previously been planning to move to a new ground at the Fruit Market in St Philips, but this was called off late last year. The club will now go through a consultation period with the council and other stakeholders, as part of a pre-application stage. Green Councillor Emma Edwards, representing Bishopston and Ashley Down, said: āAs local councillors, Cllr [James] Crawford and I are aware that Bristol Rovers have started drawing up initial plans for the development of their stadium site. We are pleased to see that they are keen to get input from residents before developing these plans further. āSince the development of the South Stand last year, we have been listening to residentsā concerns and have been working hard to improve the way in which the club engages with the community. These plans are in their early stages and, as they develop, we will continue to work to make sure concerns are addressed and residents in the local area are listened to.ā

Good news there are no plans to move away whilst building work is taking place, although I assume if it's only at the planning stage we haven't got around to discussing how the work can be carried out with the stadium still in use. Given that we are likely to be building the student flats on part of the car part then that's hardly going to be kept open during the building work.

There is nothing in the Rovers statement about consulting fans. All about neighbours and pre-application discussions with the Council. Will fans not get consulted before the application is submitted?

Can't see how the evil post can come out with that when the final plans have not been drawn up yet, club are still consulting with interested parties.
