Just hope we don’t have another drawn out saga like last time. Make our offer early (if we are going to) and if it’s a no, give ourselves the best chance to identify targets throughout the window. Don’t think I can handle another 358 pages of will he, won’t he…. UTG As much as I want him here, absolutely agree with you! I'd say "you sign on Jan 1st or do one"

I was gutted on transfer deadline day when we failed to get JCH, as I honestly believed that he was the missing puce of the puzzle at that time. I also think that if we’d got him then, we’d be riding a lot higher in the league now. However, it’s now months down the road and I’m not sure now that he’d fit with our ‘new’ style of play under MT. I guess we’ll just have to see what happens . . .

Whether JCH is still a target or even wants to join us anymore is not known to us. He has been frozen out at posh as they looked to build a new attacking unit. He is still a top top goal scorer at this level and will bang in the goals for whoever he signs for for another few seasons. People talk about sell on value....who cares. When has it ever benefitted Rovers on the field (as in gain promotion) from selling a player on for big money ? Penrice is the only striker i can think of that was sold for big money and the team then went on to gain promotion. So as a person watching the team not the financial person behind the club sell on value is irrelevant to me. Yes the squad does need improvements in a few areas but a 20+ goal a season striker would be pretty handy. Chris Martin is not the answer. A good stopgap in a crisis. A luxury extra player in the squad if you can find space . Not a player to fire us to promotion or keep us in the championship. Barry Hayles, Jason Roberts? We got amounts for those two that we would bite the hands off if offered for Aaron Collins. Let's not forget the first £1m goal keeper. Then there is Ricky. Apart from those, we just haven't really been blessed with big sell on fees. That might explain why it feels like we have gone backwards on the pitch whilst moving forwards on the ground (better that Twerton days).

But did any of that money make the team achieve more or gain a promotion ? Lambert,Hayles,White,Stewart,G Taylor,Roberts,Agogo,,Ellington,M Taylor ,i could be wrong but i dont recall us getting better after they left.

We must be making a 30 year record breaking bid on a more up and coming striker then, or did Barton have a metaphoric gun to their head in the summer??

Like I said before I'm not too worried either way about J.C.H . The question is if we had £800k in september we should still have that money in January. It's an incredible ammount of money to offer for a division one club.
Sadly reality tells me having supported the club a long time . It will be a minimal fee or a loan in January. Off the field the club have made good progress ( new south stand : training ground ). On the pitch £300k for the entire incoming squad this season don't suggest a promotion push or even play offs. Despite what people say we have an average modest squad that's doing okay. Some teams in division two have spent a lot more on fees for their teams.

UTG I think McAnthony has already said a deal can be done in January but he wants it tied up straight away, if we are back in for him then I’m sure terms will have already been discussed and agreed. It’s in nobody’s interest to let this run to the end of Jan.

Surely it's about the quality of player you get in rather than the fee you pay? Of course but everyone knows to get quality you need to spend. The vast ammount of players we sold for big fees included paying a substantial fee in the first place with the exception of Martyn Yates stewart . My general point is that nearly £1 million was so called made avaliable to spend in September. Will this money be made available in January ?.

Shame. Mid table finish it is then. Wonder if we could repurpose the money towards Nombe? I doubt it as I think he cost £1.5m? Alternatively we could just reuse the 800k to build the east stand like Fulham’s 😁

2 league one clubs interested.
I’ll say Derby and possibly Bolton or Poxford.
MT will unearth a championship gem not getting game time, a pacy lethal finisher who adds something new up top for us.
