Why did no one else buy him in the summer before the last day fiasco?

100% I'd like us to sign JCH. We're a mid table league one club, in need with a striker... he's got 2 golden boots in this division. It's pretty simple- he'd be a cracking signing. It's not really on "fans" to worry about value for money. If the owners think its workable- I'd love it. I appreciate there might be better options but if it were to happen we'd have a great player. Tbf this will be my view if we do sign him! UTG

Why did no one else buy him in the summer before the last day fiasco? Lack of £'s in L1, that's why it's such a weak division this season?

Why did no one else buy him in the summer before the last day fiasco? How many would be able or prepared to spend £7.5k p/w wages, a 3 year contract, plus the transfer fee, for a soon to be 30-year-old with no sell-on value?

Why did no one else buy him in the summer before the last day fiasco? How many clubs had £800k odd to spend on a single player? We just had a new owner come in who was looking to make a statement. You could make a similar comment on any player we pay money for - why wasn’t anyone prepared to match our bid for Connor Taylor? If there weren’t any does that make Taylor a bad signing?

Why did no one else buy him in the summer before the last day fiasco? On that logic, why did no one sign any of our players when they were free?

Why did no one else buy him in the summer before the last day fiasco? Lack of £'s in L1, that's why it's such a weak division this season? There are teams in the Championship badly in need of goals, they should have the funds.

Why did no one else buy him in the summer before the last day fiasco? On that logic, why did no one sign any of our players when they were free? Maybe because we were handing out better deals. Thomas wanted to come back, probably to be close to home, therefore that rules out many teams. Anyway if goals are key, and he is a guarantee of goals must be others that would want him!

Doesn't he still own his place here? Didn't he want to come back? Then there's all the reasons eric posted above, such as Taylor and affordability.. FWIW, I'm potentially changing my mind on JCH since Taylor has come in. I wonder if he'll suit our play. But at the same time, not gonna complain if we do sign him.

The reporter on HAG tonight said he personally felt it was unlikely that MT would sign JCH, he'll probably now sign for somebody like Oxford and fire them to promotion. And if that happens, they'll be plenty of egg for people's faces on here!

Not sure what relevance that is if you’re making a point about nobody else wanting JCH implying he’s an overrated signing, surely the same would apply to others - just because nobody wanted to match our offer for Connor Taylor doesn’t mean he wasn’t going to be a good signing.

Ask them the question, as I've no idea how anybody on here will know why they didn't bid, perhaps they are also obsessed with signing youngsters with a potential sell on value.

JCH will be fresh in January but probably not match fit.
Two months have passed since he played a full match.
In the last 11 games played by Posh he has played a total of 89 minutes.
This is surprising, unanticipated and somewhat concerning.

Whether JCH is still a target or even wants to join us anymore is not known to us. He has been frozen out at posh as they looked to build a new attacking unit. He is still a top top goal scorer at this level and will bang in the goals for whoever he signs for for another few seasons. People talk about sell on value....who cares. When has it ever benefitted Rovers on the field (as in gain promotion) from selling a player on for big money ? Penrice is the only striker i can think of that was sold for big money and the team then went on to gain promotion. So as a person watching the team not the financial person behind the club sell on value is irrelevant to me.
Yes the squad does need improvements in a few areas but a 20+ goal a season striker would be pretty handy. Chris Martin is not the answer. A good stopgap in a crisis. A luxury extra player in the squad if you can find space . Not a player to fire us to promotion or keep us in the championship.

This is surprising, unanticipated and somewhat concerning. They are building for a future without him. Its not surprising really. He should be available for a cheap(er) deal this window. Either sell for what's offered or he'll go for a free in the summer.

People are talking about our need for reinforcements across the team but the simple fact is we'll only go up the table if we win games, and we'll only win games by scoring goals. We could spunk 1m on wingbacks sure, but a couple of new defenders aren't going to win us games.

Just hope we don’t have another drawn out saga like last time.
Make our offer early (if we are going to) and if it’s a no, give ourselves the best chance to identify targets throughout the window.
Don’t think I can handle another 358 pages of will he, won’t he….
