Wonder if MT has knowledge of our previous interest in JCH? Suspect Brown may be surplus possibly. Why wouldn't he have knowledge, it's not like it was a closely guarded secret? MT seems to be a big fan of Brown, I'd be surprised if he was moved on in January. Brown v JCH ,no contest in my eyes JCH.
Suspect MT would be able to get the best out of Brown though , how good that is , who knows?

I’d be happy with a decent left wing back and a young, fast striker Should we keep Martin? I would. I’d let go of Bogarde, Gibbons and Belly Nothing too major, be nice to see Rossiter again one day! UTG I’m not sure he’ll keep Martin tbh. Our play under MT doesn’t seem to suit him

In other news ,Muff manager tipped to be taking over at Stoke. Must be just for the money 🙄. Think I’d stay at Plymouth rather than try and turn Stoke around.

Got a feeling we will sign another central defender, a central midfielder but a different type of player to what we've already got. Someone who can give us extra legs as we do tire around the 60 minute mark. Brown would be better suited playing off an all action, physical type number 9, like the lad at Exeter last season.

Very different players. On form brown can probably challenge Evans in the attacking midfield role but we’re yet to see Brown in form and Evans is back to where he was in our promotion season these last few games. We seem to have 2 players for every position other than up front where it’s 2 from 3. Like I’ve said before Barton’s recruitment was very good , it was his tactics and inability to see that league 1 players can’t play like Prem players that held him back. Would make a great scout mind.

Assuming 3-5-2 will be the preferred formation for this season, the below shows our options. I will leave out Friend, Clarke and Rossiter for now. With a Rating out of 5 for each position
3 Centre backs: First Choice: Wilson - Taylor - Crama (4.5/5) Back up: No specialist CB back up (0/5) Other options: Hoole - Grant - Gibbons (1/5)
Right Wing back First Choice: Hunt (5/5) Back up: Hoole - Gibbons (3/5) Other options: Thomas - Sinclair (2/5)
Left Wing back First Choice: Gordon (3/5) Back up: Vale (3/5) Other options: Gibbons - Grant (1/5)
DCM Double Pivot! First Choice: Ward - Finley (4/5) Back up: Bogarde - Woods (2.5/5) Other Options: McCormick-Grant-Evans (1/5)
AM/No10 behind strikers: First Choice: Evans (5/5) Back ups: Brown - McCormick - Vale (4/5) Other Options: Collins - Thomas (4/5)
Strikers First Choice: Collins - Marquis (4/5) Back up: Martin (3/5) Other options: Sinclair - Brown - Vale (3/5)
You may disagree with the scores, but this shows a few things: LWB is the weakest CB is great but ZERO decent cover No obvious place for Thomas and Vale who are two of our best players! DCM could do with better cover, maybe Woods is returned and replaced. Bogarde offers something different so would keep AM/No10 overloaded possibly? Different option up top possibly required.
Sure we will switch to back 4 for some games or in game, which means wingers come in to it more
Thoughts?

Almost time for a little refresh, here's where we stand (i think!) at the end of 2023.... Goalkeepers [James Belshaw]Matthew CoxMatt Hall Jed Ward Defence
James Wilson Connor Taylor i George Friend [James Connolly]Luca Hoole Jack Hunt Lewis Gordon Tristan CramaJosh Grant James Gibbons Trevor Clarke (assume back and available to be added to Squad?) Midfield
Anthony Evans Sam Finley Scott Sinclair Grant Ward Luke Thomas Lamar Bogarde Harvey Vale Ryan WoodsLuke McCormick i Jordan Rossiter [Ryan Jones] [Jerry Lawrence]Attackers
Aaron Collins John Marquis Jevani Brown Chris Martin (contract up Jan 2024) [ Harvey Greenslade] Key: Loan In [Loaned Out]
i = long term injury James Belshaw - out permanent Matt Hall - out loan George Friend - out permanent Luca Hoole - out loan (L2 needs to be playing) Lewis Gordon - out loan (L2 again needs to be playing) James Gibbons - out permanent Trevor Clarke - out permanent Luke McCormick - out loan (L2 needs to be playing) Jordan Rossiter - out permanent (injury has ruined his career) Chris Martin - new 6 month deal Ins - Left Back, Right Back, Central Midfielder, Centre Forward. 9 out, 4 in IMO I would also like to see Ryan Jones back and in the squad.

If only getting rid of players was easy! Cant imagine any of our players under contract will be leaving permanently in January. At best they will be loaned out with us probably still covering the majority of their wages.

Expect us to be in for one of Lorent Tolaj (Aldershot Town) or Michael Mellon (Morecambe on loan from Burnley) in Jan. Burnley keep to get Mellon progressing into L1....

No way are we loaning out Hoole or Gordon! I am hoping that MT will develop these two along with Connolly rather than having to rely on loans to bolster our defence.

We definitely need at least one naturally left footed CB for balance. Also like to see if we can upgrade Woods. If we are going to continue with the wing backs then obviously a LWB, possibly Trevor can return? Presumably a striker, wouldn't be surprised to see Martin leave.
