I’d be happy with a decent left wing back and a young, fast striker Should we keep Martin? I would. I’d let go of Bogarde, Gibbons and Belly Nothing too major, be nice to see Rossiter again one day! UTG I’m not sure he’ll keep Martin tbh. Our play under MT doesn’t seem to suit him He’s a good option if you’re winning the game and you want him to hold the ball up upfront and win a few flick-ons . No good for the higher press we’re adopting. I’d keep him if money wasn’t an issue but I’d guess he’s on a fairly good whack.

More likely to see him play when we come across a low block team, so a good option. Still think he might move on and we use his wages elsewhere

Sounds like first move(s) will be a return of Connolly hopefully quickly followed by an experienced CB to cover Wilson’s absence. Grant is getting the stick Hoole did last year covering for a poor squad of insufficient CBs Taylor, Crama, Wilson cover and Connolly back up minimum required. Would like to see Grant playing alongside Finley instead of Woods. His not a first 11 player but think that would be his most suited position. Assume Villa have asked for Bogarde back as not getting time, otherwise surely he’d have been on the bench today at least?
Get to it Matt!

I was under the impression that MT said it would be almost impossible to get a highly experienced CB in january. Sounds like we will get Connolly back and perhaps another loan CB or a prospect. Within the next week or so it seems as talks have already taken place with players.

As far as Connolly I doubt he's any better than Crama who doesn't seem to have done a lot wrong lately, I assume MT was criticising CT's decision making in his post match presser?? As anybody any idea what's happened to Scott Sinclair as he's not even made the match day squads for the recent games?

Are we going to push for top 6? Unlikely, but if we want to finish top 10 (best in how long? 24 years?) then we still need to fill the gaps in the squad. We have a very good 10/11 first teamers. Little else in depth, and threadbare at CB and LB. Assuming we will see no more of Bogarde, Sinclair, Rossiter, Friend and Wilson (at least for a long time). And hopefully Woods returned too. We need: CB with some experience plus Connolly for cover Clarke or Jones in the squad plus out and out Left back needed McCormick fit, plus replacement for Woods. Martin extension plus young striker / winger with pace on loan

With that in mind, January will need to both satisfy the immediate issue of this season and start building for next. How many of our squad will still be here in August? I feel we are already in a transition period, one eye on short term and another on next season. MT and the board need to get the balance right. 3 in? Loan, young prospect and seasoned pro?

Many have already written off Connolly (and Hoole) as not L1, but would love Taylor, McAlister and Bond to spend the next 7 months working with them. Our own young players who (one way or another) we have invested a lot in. The "bin them" brigade that have no patience wont like it, but if we really want to become sustainable and able to sell on players then we need more of it. Cheer up Gaschat and UTG.

Antony Evans didn't look like he was up to L1 standard last season, yet this season is one of our best players

Deffo recall Connelly and hopefully sign another defender at least until Wilson back.

Deffo recall Connelly and hopefully sign another defender at least until Wilson back. Assuming we're going to play 3 at the back for the rest of the season as well as a replacement for Wilson we also need competition for the CH role. just to keep CT on his toes and also back up in case he's ever injured or suspended as Grant's not the answer at CB.

Striker, CB, two wing backs and a defensive midfielder will be needed to make this 352 system work given injury situation

A striker and centre back who can also both also play either left or right wingback, and defensive midfield would be ideal.

An Experienced centre half is a must. If we had an experienced keeper it wouldn't be so important, because he could marshal our back line. I think this is one of the reasons Finley and Woods have played so deep. Desperate for a leader back there.

Connolly is back! Good luck Beefy. Makes sense, if only as injury cover and so MT can take a proper look at him and see if he's up to League One. Still need an experienced head back there.

Morecombe responses on Twitter very much sad to see him go. "Best defender", "ruined our season, thanks" (to Rovers for taking him away!) etc. Good to hear. Expect him to be cover and we still need experience but absolutely delighted to have him back.
