"Data, external from the IFS shows that while average private sector inflation-adjusted wages are around 4% higher than in 2010, public sector wages are still around 2.5% lower. The average pay for nurses is down 6.5% over that time, teachers’ wages are 9% lower and doctors' 15% lower" www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1e5pw1qpx8oJesus

One thing I noticed from the King's Speech was how well Labour and Conservative MPs were getting on without the pressure of party politics. Shame that doesn't happen more often. Seems to be the case with Committees, I'd like to see more powers given to Committees. Sunak's response once back in the Commons showed the weight had been lifted and he seemed very happy about that. As for the speech itself it was a case of the good, the bad and the unnecessary - I like the proposals on planning reform (they'll never get what they want but any improvement is to be applauded). A lot of taxpayers money being spent elsewhere on things that won't produce obvious benefits... As for Committees - most are great and do the bulk of the work in Parliament. There are a few who would rather make headlines than make progress but that happens everywhere to one extent or another

They do seem to have a higher standard of MP on the select committees, from all the parties.
Much more logical, reasonable, fair and at the same time seem to have a great deal of authority and respect.
Presumably the less trustworthy fruit loops on the backbenches are ignored by the whips and thankfully cabinet members are too.
I'm always impressed watching them in action and it gives a totally different impression of how MPs (well some of them) work.

Sunday papers suggesting we will match the EU product safety rules, cue howls of betrayal of Brexit benefits. 🙄
Recommended pay review for nurses and teachers of 5.5%, costing £3bn more than budgetted for.
Calls to lift the 2 child limit.
Oh and ignore Deborah Haynes' hysteria over an aircraft programme being binned, that's just her making noise and justifying her status on Sky.

Mel Stride is seriously considering running for the Conservative leadership.
After having a near monopoly of airtime during the election, he's probably well placed to make a go at it.
One of the One Nation Tory wing.

They say life is about learning. I've just learnt a new word.
As of today I enter my last year being a quinquagenarian.

Been thinking about this .Now the ERG is down to something like 20 Members after being near the 120 mark ( I think 🤔) . Do you think the one nation MP’s left who must hold the balance of power , engineer things to leave 2 leadership candidates who are moderates and leave the far right loons out of a membership vote ?

It is strange how the Conservative Party has lengthened what should be a short process to the point where they won't have a leader at the Autumn Conference and are basically giving Starmer a free-hit at his first hundred days in office... ...there's something else going on here, although that something else could still be the sheer incompetence that saw them suffer that catastrophic General Election defeat...

On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being ERG-esque, I see Braverman as an 11, Badenoch 7, Jenrick and Patel 8. Cleverly in the middle at 5 with Tugendhat and Stride 1-2. I can see Braverman going to Reform if and when she realises she won't get the gig. Cleverly probably the one with enough cross party support. Hopefully two pragmatic candidates in the final selection.
