Starmer and Cooper promised to "...smash the gangs..." and on July 7th promised to set up the agency, recruit it's commander and make an immediate impact. Given peak season is July-Aug you would have to assume the immediate impact they were talking about was the past few months... ...especially as Home Office statistics for July 2023 to June 2024 (under the Conservatives) actually showed “irregular arrivals” fell by 26% and there was a 36% reduction in the asylum backlog, potentially because 'migrant returns' rose by a fifth, 'enforced returns' rose by a half....so things were improving even before the Rwanda plan had started.... Smash the gangs in two months ? 😂 Sorry Super but you can’t hang this mess on them and I expect you’re just being mischievous. I would expect some progress next summer though after they get a chance to put their plans into action. You blooming well can hang this on Labour! It was Blair's Labour gov that opened up the boarders and invited the rapists, paedophiles and murderers in. (along with those that brought value to the country of course) The Tories then failed to deal with the issue after manifesto promise, after manifesto promise (hamstrung in the last few years by Starmer blocking their initiatives such as the Rwanda scheme) And now we have Keir Stalin with NO PLAN whatsoever. Fast forward to your Benchmark of next summer and the situation will be much worse. He could have acted straight away if he wanted to. He had courts open 24/7 to deal with rioters so why could he have not had court open 24/7 to prosecute every illegal that set foot on a Dover beach. He could of removed us from the ECHR like the Tories promised (may not have done, granted) and we could have deported the 1200 foreign nationals sat in HMP's back to their own hell holes thus negating the need to let criminals out early. In the 11 weeks they have been in power illegal immigration this year has more than doubled. He will never be able to "smash the gangs" because as soon as they find one gang (which they probably won't) another will replace them. Just like they have never smashed the drug gangs. And while the incentive for the economical illegal migrants to keep coming remains with no deterrent, there will be plenty wanting to pay the "gangs" for passage He is a liar, a conman, a hypocrite and a traitor.

Where did Blair let those people in? The Conservatives were never going to leave the ECHR, that's an empty threat. Rwanda was a gimmick. As for the rest, time will tell.

Written in 2007 and doesn't say anything about "opened up the boarders and invited the rapists, paedophiles and murderers" which was what you stated.

As well as all the others? Where oh where will it all end? ....and I know you left it in on purpose btw

I would expect some progress next summer though after they get a chance to put their plans into action. Well they had a plan. A new Border Security Command with a new leader to clamp down ahead of the normal summer increase. All of that would build on those previous twelve months of success under the Conservative government. A reset with the French and the EU. A better plan than before... ...turns out that was all rhetoric. Scrapping the Rwanda plan was a green light to the gangs and wasted all the money spent on it so far. Numbers rose, people died, a solution is no closer....

Also if it's such a bad idea why are so many other countries now actively exploring offshore processing? The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has been successfully conducting asylum operations in Rwanda since 2019

Since they will have been refused asylum initially, chances are they will not be successful second time around *but* they will be in a safe third country. So it's very similar. I notice you skipped past the point the UNHCR think it's safe enough that they use it themselves....

They never implemented it largely because the few sensible ones in their party wouldn’t have voted for it either. Its never going to happen , it was never going to happen and the quicker you and the small rump left of the Tory party understands this the better. It’s a large part of the reason the absolute loons got voted out in a record defeat . bangs head against wall 🙄🙄🙄🙄🤦♂️

Or are we just allowed to re-write history now...? My memory isn’t great . Remind me how many were sent there ? We could as a country pass any law we liked , doesn’t mean it would stand up to international law and legal challenges does it ? Anyway my point still stands , it was a ludicrous plan that was not only cruel but financially unworkable that was never going to happen. Just a gimmick.
