This is getting very Jeremy Corbyn circa 2019 when he announced free unicorns for all. "Pensioners will be given a tax break worth £2.4 billion a year, Rishi Sunak is expected to promise as part of an expansion of the triple lock. The prime minister will announce on Tuesday that from April next year the income tax personal allowance for pensioners will be increased in line with the triple lock, as he continues the Conservatives’ election campaign. The pledge would mean both the state pension and pensioners’ tax-free allowance will always rise in line with the highest of earnings, wages or 2.5%. Billed the "triple lock plus," the policy is estimated to cost £2.4 billion a year by 2029/30, a price tag which mirrors Mr Sunak’s proposed national service duty for all 18-year-olds, billed at £2.5 billion a year. The tax cut will be funded through a previously announced plan to raise £6 billion a year by the end of the next parliament by clamping down on tax avoidance and evasion." www.itv.com/news/2024-05-27/tories-promise-to-expand-triple-lock-giving-pensioners-24bn-income-tax-break

Especially considering he’s wanting to stop NI all together. This truly os desperate, it’s even worse than Corbyn

😂😂😂😂🇬🇧 Nutters !
MP suspended after endorsing Reform UK candidate
The Conservative Party says MP Lucy Allan has been suspended for backing a Reform UK candidate. Ms Allan insists that she quit the party in order to support Reform UK candidate Alan Adams in the seat she is vacating. She publicly gave her support to Mr Adams rather than Tory Hannah Campbell in Telford, Shropshire. A Conservative Party spokesman said she had been suspended "with immediate effect" while the prime minister said a vote for Reform would "put Keir Starmer in power". Mr Adams would offer an alternative to "more of the same politics and more of the same politicians", Ms Allan said. She won Telford in 2019 with a majority of 10,941 but in 2017 the Conservatives won by 720 votes - and she first won the seat in 2015 with a majority of 730. The MP stated that she had known Mr Adams for many years and that the Royal Navy veteran "is genuinely the best person for the job". Ms Allan said: "I want the best for Telford and I can't just let the Labour candidate have a walkover." Asked about Ms Allan's revolt, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said "when it comes to Reform, I understand people's frustrations". But he added a vote for other parties "particularly Reform, all that is going to do is put Keir Starmer in power".
Ms Allan added about Mr Adams that he was "not in it for personal advantage, power, or control over people" and his motivation for standing "is profoundly honourable". She said: "Alan gives Telford a choice, so that Telford does not have to settle for more of the same politics and more of the same politicians." The Tory spokesman said, following Ms Allan's suspension, "the people of Telford now have the chance to vote for a dedicated and hard-working new candidate who will put Telford first". Veterans minister Johnny Mercer said it was "very sad" to see Ms Allan supporting the Reform candidate. “I like Lucy but any broad political organisation like the Conservatives trying to get through the incredibly turbulent time of the last 7 or 8 years…are gonna have the edges where people don't agree and that is fine," he added. A Reform spokesman said the party was "absolutely delighted" Ms Allan was backing their candidate. "She, like many Conservatives, feels that the Reform party represents traditional centre-right values and priorities in a way that the Conservative Party has long forgotten," they added.

Should there be a minimum qualification for being a politician, or maybe a minister? Yes , a brain cell. More likely needing a heart. I was thinking more a requirement to have spent time in a role, for example spending a week in A&E or taking classes in a secondary school. There are Parliamentary schemes but nothing formal or compulsory as far as I know. Maybe MPs who want to be Ministers should have to attend unless they have real world experience.

Angela Rayner filmed "pleading" for the Muslim vote (surprised SG hasn't mentioned it yet).
Steve Baker defending c 5,000 majority is doing it while on holiday in Greece. Has he given up?

Should there be a minimum qualification for being a politician, or maybe a minister? If it was a minimum of 1 GCSE Rayner wouldn't be an MP.

Who would be better qualified to look at child provision, for example? A single parent MP or a fresh faced 20 something with a PPE degree from Oxbridge?

Either way, if Sunak wins then you’ll get your wish as they’ll all have gone into the military or forced to work unpaid in some of those institutions. What’s the term called again when you force people to work without pay?

Over there you can single out a person on the basis of their skin colour and make prejudicial remarks about them, but if you call a fellow member a "numb nut" you get barred.🤔.

Apologies for pointing this out again but the proposal is not for mandatory military service. My thoughts are that 80+ countries actually have a similar policy in place (including Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Singapore, France, Estonia, Lithuania) and others are considering something similar (like Germany). Yes, I was being patronising (again) - only because so often people in here so often jump to the wrong conclusions yet post their opinions as absolute fact, despite the actual facts of the topic being widely available with a quick search of the news... Is the plan that the law states you have to do military service or forced to do volunteer service if you can’t do military service? Those aren’t thoughts, those are claims that other countries are considering (not making election pledges) something similar. That is just a flimsy statement, not a thought or opinion. Presuming you know what one of those is, why don’t you tell us your opinion on this? So tell us, what has everyone said on here that is so factually incorrect that you feel the need to be so patronising and intellectually superior, rather than just making a civilised point? I’m very curious what made you think, ‘I now have the right to put myself above the others here and talk down to them’. It's not mandatory military service. That has never been the proposal, that is the "...headline..." from people who are happy to deliberately spread misinformation. I'm reaching the point where I'm wondering if it's patronising to link to some of the news stories about Sunak's proposal or some of the wider 'perspective' pieces comparing it to what those other counties either already do or are suggesting they will start to do... ...I'll let you google it. The trouble with social media is that whether it's ten, ten thousand or ten million people who see incorrect information they want to believe, no matter what the actual facts are so many of them will believe the false version that corrections are basically pointless. Doesn't mean I don't feel the need to correct it though...
