Peter Shiton would struggle behind our back 4. I think any 74 year old would although he may be more commanding than Cox

Alrighty then. Anyone who thinks swapping out the keeper is the cure to all our problems is beyond deluded. There ya go. It’s a start… I was sat right behind the South goal tonight. Cox spilling the ball like that would be unacceptable in Sunday League football, let alone League One. His kicking has all the accuracy of a BDO darts player after 8 pints. I called Radio Bristol after the game, interestingly they mentioned a clause that means Cox has to start. That is down to the ex manager and his team of acolytes. I am not going to personally knock Cox as all young keepers will make a mistake but I think that these “must play” clauses are one of things destroying Leagues one and two football for the common man along with many other things like ridiculously high prices to watch games. On our own goalkeeping situation, even if you think that Belshaw is not an adequate League One goalkeeper (personally I think that he was more than adequate) he brought so much more to the team that his keeping. His energy and positivity spreads through a team. Harrogate have been transformed by his arrival. He also learnt from his dropping when Balcombe arrived. When he came back into the side he took less risks and looked more secure.

Surely no one (not even the last lot) would accept a clause that an untried keeper has to play every game? Unbelievable if true

Now firmly in the Ward in camp. The lad has had one chance this season, performed very well and kept a clean sheet. Time to give him his chance, Cox is clearly one of the players our Manager has inferred are lacking confidence and Saturdays game against Oxford in my opinion is not a game to try and build his confidence. One early mistake, the crowd get on his back and it will be game over.

I simply do not see the point in continuing to help a young, inexperienced, and frankly poor goalkeeper - who doesn't belong to us ffs - the chance to improve. If he was a world beater, sure. Buy why on earth are we helping to develop a young player who belongs to another club (who really isn't very good!!) when we have one of OUR OWN at the club who fits at the very least the same mould. Even if Ward is no better, I'd rather provide the opportunity to develop to a player that belongs to us than someone else!

Should never ever take on other teams youth keepers. It's his calamity keeping that is giving the defence the yips most of the time

I find a clause in a contract that you must play another clubs player utterly bizarre. Even if there is a clause surely there must be a rider that states if the player is performing to a certain standard. If we are not happy with his level of performance, surely we can send the player back without any financial penalty. Just because Brentford decided he could sit on their bench last season in the Premier league, does not mean he should be guaranteed a place in the first team at a lower league club. The time has come for the club to make a change whatever the clause and put him on the bench .

Well done MT for showing confidence in our own young players. If you don't play your youngsters then they never develop and fall by the wayside. Hopefully MT might make our academy a more attractive options for youngsters. Well done Jed.

Forum people you’re mental and wrong. 54 votes to give another teams keeper game time. Quite frankly he’s awful. What is he good at. Big? No. Shot stopper? No. Crosses? No. Commanding? No. Go back to the likes of Lumley and Mikel Anderson, like real quality keepers on loan and yes absolutely 15 votes to give your own lad a good run Make this make sense people As is the Rovers way, the loanee kid between the sticks takes all the flack. No wonder his confidence is shot with that bunch of clowns playing in front of him. Not even the top 6 of our playing staff problems. How can anyone watch that tonight & not immediately look at Finley, Evans, Collins, Marquis, McCormick & Grant for the absolute dross they served up. Most of those names are senior professionals! Our best players (didn’t take much) were flash and Vale, one has been out for months and the other had less than 20mins! Anyone who thinks swapping out the keeper is the cure to all our problems is beyond deluded. Cox has been a poor goalkeeper for us. Goalkeepers are like strikers they can win you a game and a good goalkeeper is worth many wins over a season. Cox hasn’t won us any games , a good game for him is a 6 out of 10. Ward today was outstanding and deserved man of the match , a real match winning performance and like I said it’s those kind of performance from keepers that win you games.

Sometimes the deal is the club pays the full wages if the loanee not utilised so give them games and they cost you little and to drop them can be expensive. No idea if that's the deal we took with Cox.

Thankfully cox was at last dropped today anyway and hopefully Ward will continue to be number 1 or number 2 if we bring in an experienced keeper and send Cox back.

Proper keeper and mom. Cox needs to go back to brentford youth. Two players masquerading as keepers they have fobbed onto us

Well done Jed - superb performance given the undoubted pressure you must have felt.
You're young, you're learning - I'm sure you will make mistakes along the way. But your one of our own! And I'd much rather develop one of our own than some random loanee!
UTG!

Gaffer just said on Radio Bristol that there's nothing if ANY (Cox, in this case) of our loan contracts stating that loanees must play a certain amount of minutes/games.
"There's nothing in any of the loan agreements in relation to a player having to play. The agreement did change a few weeks ago regarding when Brentford can recall him. They may well recall him and they have the option to do that at any stage, which is something we're wary of and conscious of in terms of our recruitment of that position."
Perhaps damningly, he also said this: "He (Jed) never looked flustered and always made the right decisions, which is why we made the change honestly."
