Shame on you people not backing ward Not really about not backing Jed. I don’t like changing my vote, but as of Tuesday night I was firmly in the play Jed camp having been in favour of getting behind Cox. However up until that point Cox had been bought in to be our keeper for the season. It was unlikely Taylor or Mangs or Barton were going to play him until Cox played so poorly it forced Taylor’s hands. So up until that point similarly it felt as if as supporters we had to get behind him as much as possible. Not an anti-Jed thing but an acceptance of the situation and that a keeper lacking in confidence needed us to get behind him and not get on his case. It’s worth remembering that Jed is young and inexperienced and for a manager to give him a go is a considered risk that shouldn’t be taken lightly.

I agree he is young and learning much like Cox however at least he is our player and I would stick with Jed until the end of the season and then consider if we need a new no1 next season. Hopefully we don’t and Jed can be our goalkeeper next season and some.

Would be difficult to drop Jed Ward after today.
Saying that MT wasn't exactly ruling out him going on loan again in his post match.
Unfortunately for Cox, he replaced Belshaw who was unfairly pushed out..so almost by association Cox looks like the bad guy and immediately had pressure on him. Must be a good keeper otherwise wouldn't be in Brentford and England setup.
I would stick with Jed next game personally. May aswell develop our own players in a season that will likely fizzle out to be a mid table finish.

I wouldn't be against him going to L2 IF we got an experienced keeper in for six months but I'd rather just play him now, he didn't look out of place in L1 today.

I'm being all womany and changing my mind from another keeper option. JW for the rest of the season..... what a great opportunity for the lad.
Cut him some slack, about the same as Coxy, and develop the lad after an encouraging performance v Oxford.

Sorry pal look at the title of the thread. Goalkeeper discussion. Alrighty then. Anyone who thinks swapping out the keeper is the cure to all our problems is beyond deluded. There ya go. How’s the humble pie geezer?

Jedward moving forward after that. No chance for their goal. Took that header and held it. That save was befitting of this level of football. Totally confident, quick off his line.
I was initially for a new keeper as I just didn’t know, forgive me Jedward.
Those saves meant something, shipping another goal then may have changed the result. When was the last time a keeper won us points?
Love him. Bristol’s No1 👍

Would make sense if Ward was the only change from Tuesday night. Forgetting Martin, Friend, Wilson, Conte & Vale may have had a hand in our improved performance ?🤩

Or do you think Ward was an improvement on Cox? I thought Ward was outstanding. I said before the match it’s a chance for him to step in and make the number one position his own. He’s made huge strides in doing that, in a single 90min performance. It would be a weird take to think I’d wish ill on JW merely because I was happy to stick up for Cox, when the latest ‘in thing’ to do is hammer the lad.

I find a clause in a contract that you must play another clubs player utterly bizarre. Even if there is a clause surely there must be a rider that states if the player is performing to a certain standard. If we are not happy with his level of performance, surely we can send the player back without any financial penalty. Just because Brentford decided he could sit on their bench last season in the Premier league, does not mean he should be guaranteed a place in the first team at a lower league club. The time has come for the club to make a change whatever the clause and put him on the bench . Reluctantly I agree 🙃💙

Whom should be our back up? Because I'm putting it out there, not Cox.

Undoubtedly at times he was excellent in the division below, and at times in league 1. JW will make mistakes, no doubt, he's still in his learning stage, and almost certainly there'll be a time for him to sit out a match or two. That's the nature of competition at the very highest level. But at least the working progress will benefit us. Bristol's number 1 great call! When was the last time we had bone fide keeper one of our own?

Without reading back through all these pages I am all for Ward now being given the rest of the season to see how he gets on then asses the situation in the summer.
Hopefully we will finally stop brining in young keepers from the premier league who use us to train up their own players. The majority of these keepers cant handle the pressure of playing in the league after spending years in the tippy tappy premier league reserve/youth leagues and eventually end up playing at a lower level within a few years anyway (many much lower than league one).
