David Mehew. Mark McCritical. Jockey, there above. and... Bob Wilson. Bob was Ron Green's replacement had he not recovered from injury. Didn't actually play or even sign, did he? Doing Bobby Gould a favour. Also a bit of coverage on Football Focus. Ron Green. Goes under the radar a bit but one of my favourites

Goes under the radar a bit but one of my favourites Decent GK, conceded our last goal at Eastville. Recall a quote about the pitch invasion at the end, him thinking he was about to be chastised, instead he got a handshake and thanks. Underrated imo.

A sad demise for Tim - brought up in Little Stoke. Yes, very sad. Preferred him to Nigel Martyn in the early days, no way could we keep two quality keepers as they were.

Anyone that seen Nigel Martyn and not picking him as our best keeper need their head reading. We’ve had some good ones that have been mentioned here but Nige was a different class. Shame it was short lived with us but what a career in the end.
Also a bloody nice chap. When he lived above the newsagents near page park he used to stop and watch the Sunday league game whilst walking his dog!

Nigel Martyn - the best by some way. 23 England caps too.
Hard to put the other good ones in order but here goes: Martin Thomas Jim Eadie Steve Phillips - he won the golden glove for most clean sheets in 2006/7

Only been following the Gas 35 years so I didn't see most of these keepers play!
Were the old guys really that much better? Find that hard to believe, probably longevity was the difference?
Is it a reflection on our regular struggles to find solid keepers?
For me these three were head and shoulders above the rest from 1990/91 onwards:
Fraser Forster Joe Lumley Steve Phillips
(4th Brian Parkin, but not the same league as above)

Brian Parkin!
He had one cracking season and the following season was utterly useless.
No one comes close to Martin unless they played before the 80's.

Jim Eadie over Ronnie Briggs for me….. I agree the flying pig for me, Ronnie had good days and bad not sure if that related to the quantity of Guinness consumed on the Friday

Kevin Miller used to pull off some great saves, could really chuck himself about.
Also remember Scott shearer throwing one in his own net when he was playing against us at the mem, and then we promptly signed him up...

Bernard was fearless. Got kicked in the head by a CF at home to Crewe(?) finished his career but carried on as a groundsman . New Years Day 1967, I think, home to Middlesbrough. John O’Rourke was the forward but it was a complete accident and no fault of O’Rourke. Laurie Taylor took over and played in the Arsenal cup match before being replaced in 69/70 season by Dick Sheppard. My 4 best keepers, has to be Nigel M, first million pound keeper and an England international, Jim Eadie, Laurie Taylor and Dick Sheppard, all for various rovers-related reasons. Iirc Dick Sheppard was being chased by City as well in 1969 but chose us (bet that wouldn’t happen now, sadly) and his bad injury was so sad. Laurie Taylor saved a penalty at Kettering in ‘69in the 3rd round replay when we were already 0-1 down and that could have been the end. We came back to win 2-1 (?) and have a decent cup run that ended at Goodison Park. And big Jim in that team of 73/74 that Don M built piece by piece in the two years before. UTG! edit: Sorry kent. Just seen you beat me to it. 👍👍👍

Am I right to believe that Brian - Mr Glum - Parkin was part of the Nigel Martyn deal. First £1 million goalkeeper plus a pretty reliable replacement.
Apparently as a toddler I wandered/crawled past one of those mini goalmouths in a garden and saved a penalty by pure accident. Only know as relatives told me. They are 90% sure the spot kick taker was a certain Matt Le Tissier who would have been 5 years older.
Anyone else got 100% record saving his penalties?
