Just turned 74. First game when I was 12, but spent my formative years glued to the kitchen loudspeaker every Saturday teatime with the rest of the family to catch the day's results, solemnly and meticulously read by the BBC presenter beginning with Football League Division 1. By the time he reached Football League Division 2 - and later Division 3 - beads of sweat were dripping off the end of my nose, the whistling kettle was falling on deaf ears and you could cut the tension with a breadknife as he closed in on the one result that really mattered. If we won, the kitchen would erupt in glee, the budgie would bounce on its perch, dad would thump the table, sending granulated sugar high and wide, and speculation would abound as to who scored the goal(s). A draw would be met by sulky comments like "a useful point", "always been our bogie team" and "at least City lost". Defeat would get dad staring out the window, hands in pockets muttering "someone switch that bloody kettle off". Not surprisingly, nobody bothered rushing for the Green 'Un when it fluttered down onto the carpet under the letterbox.

Cannot remember a time when I didn’t support Rovers. Born in 1953 and started watching regularly in 1961.

"Johnny Come Lately" here. Even though I turn 64 next Saturday I can't really claim more than about 17 years. We moved from Sussex to South Bristol in summer 1987 and the first game we attended in our new home city was City-Rovers in September, 3-3. Knew then that we would always favour the Blue side! Watched a few games at Twerton but was very busy raising 3 daughters until the mid noughties. Watched quite a bit in the 2006-07 season and had my first season ticket in 2007-08 hence my meagre claim. First game was actually FA Cup 3rd round in Jan 1984 at Eastville v Leicester City, a 3-1 victory. Have to admit the love is shared with a team from North London who also don't play in red...

First game Leyland DAF Final.
First “proper” game when I was actually appreciating football and had the concentration span (I don’t think you can count when you’re 6/7 years old) was 3-3 notts county in 1992 and then after that second game was 4-0 City. Which was amazing.
I was in the family seating and city fans behind men(kids same age) and they were all cocky at the start. Went quiet later on and I remember looking round and one was crying and I smugly smiled at all 3. It was incredible. I wish I had bottled those tears, that would become a holy relic of Bristol Rovers

40th year aged 60. Rovers were my second team as a kid/teenager. Arsenal were my main team. However, decided to follow Rovers at aged 20 as I like the plucky underdog. There were many times I regretted it but the highs of supporting Rovers when things go right are so special when compared to being one of the big clubs

I would have preferred the premise of the question to remembering your first Gas manager but happy to comply and tick the old f@rts box...

For me, best post of the thread so far!

Not as long as some, but 53 years and counting. Many up's, probably outweighed by more down's, but being ever optimistic I hope to see us back in the second tier before I become officially a pensioner! Anyway, where is our long service award?

i'm Now 66 started when i was 6 standing on the Muller Road end with Brother I'm now an official old git and grumpy Same age as me, but my late father left it a year later 1964 before he started taking me to Eastville. We used to stand in South Enclosure in those days. Eventually migrated to the Tote End when me and my big brother ventured out on our own. The bus journey from Knowle West was sometimes interesting.

I'm 54 next month I grew up only a few streets away from Eastville and the ground was only a 5 minute walk away, so I'm in the old farts list

Must say I'm a bit worried at the lack of younger supporters Move this forum to TikTok or Snapchat and the representation might change. I do think old school club forums like this are a dying breed, as much as I enjoy the conversation and debate on here. I personally use Reddit a lot but there’s not a big Gas contingent on there, unfortunately.
